Overview

Stay in a remote and rustic location at the Hrifunes Guesthouse, situated between the two towns of Vík and Kirkjubæjarklaustur, both about 30 minutes away. The natural phenomena of southern Iceland are all accessible from this peaceful spot: Drive to the hexagon-shaped basalt pieces of Kirkjugólf in 30 minutes, the black sand beach of Reynisfjara in 40 minutes, and Skógafoss waterfall in an hour. Reykjavík is a little over three hours away, and the airport is just about a 3.5-hour drive.

Rooms in this family-run hotel are rustic and charming, blending a country style of cozy textiles and materials with occasional modern touches. Some Standard Rooms have shared bathrooms, so book a Standard or Superior Double with an ensuite bathroom if you'd like more privacy. The Deluxe Apartment has two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a dining room, making it perfect for families or larger groups. Views can overlook the lava fields or the river nearby, and in fact, the fantastic views all around the property are a highlight.

Owners Hadda and Haukur run their guesthouse with a warm mix of hospitality and passion, going out of their way to make sure you feel taken care of. This is clearest in the family-style dinners shared at the communal table, where you can enjoy two-course homemade meals cooked with fresh produce and local ingredients that will appeal to meat lovers and vegetarians alike.

The staff at Hrifunes Guesthouse truly exceeded our expectations, providing us with exceptional last-minute support. When our friends faced a mix-up with their reservations at a nearby guesthouse and had their accommodations canceled just before check-in, we reached out to Hrifunes Guesthouse in a frantic situation. To our relief, they went above and beyond to accommodate our friends within just 30 minutes, saving the day! On top of that, they treated us all to a delicious homemade dinner, creating a memorable dining experience.

The warm and inviting atmosphere, coupled with the outstanding hospitality and stunning views, made our stay truly unforgettable. Meals were served family-style. The menu offered a diverse selection of dishes, catering to both vegetarians and meat lovers.

It's worth noting that Hrifunes Guesthouse is situated quite off the main road, approximately a 15-minute drive on a gravel road. However, the tranquil and picturesque location only adds to the charm of this hidden gem.

In conclusion, we wholeheartedly recommend Hrifunes Guesthouse to anyone seeking a cozy retreat with exceptional service, a welcoming ambiance, and the added bonus of mesmerizing views. Our experience was nothing short of fantastic.
