Lagos Atlantic Hotel, Lagos (Algarve)
Relaxed retreat outside Lagos, with easy beach access, an outdoor pool, and modern rooms with options for terraces and sea views
Overview
Kimkim's Take

- Most of the large, modern rooms face the outdoor pool and the coast, with private furnished balconies and sea views.
- It's an easy 10-minute downhill stroll to the sandy beach at Praia do Porto de Mós, where you can rent umbrellas and loungers.
- A generous buffet breakfast is included in the rate, and you can order light meals and snacks from the poolside bar.
- The pool is unheated, and past travelers have found it too cool to swim in the fringe seasons.
- You'll be located a little west of central Lagos, and will need a car or taxi to reach the Old Town.
Authenticity
Lagos Atlantic Hotel's stucco walls and red-tiled roof paint a classic Algarve picture, and much of the facade's beachy character remains despite a 2020 interior renovation. Indoors, the new look is bright and contemporary (if a bit nondescript), offering the amenities of a resort in a more relaxed, intimate setting. The 40 rooms all give a nod to the surroundings with large photo murals of the Portuguese coast (though you'll have views of the real thing from most of the floor-to-ceiling windows).
Location
The hotel sits on the western outskirts of Lagos, in a quieter residential area dotted with resorts and apartment complexes. The Lagos train station and the historic Old Town are a 10-minute drive away, and you'll have easy access to plenty of Algarve beaches: it's a 10-minute downhill stroll to the golden sands of Praia do Porto de Mós, and you can connect with clifftop hiking trails that link beaches all along the coast. Faro International Airport is an hour's drive east, and the hotel offers plenty of free on-site parking and an EV charging station.
Rooms & Bathrooms
All of the newly-renovated rooms have a clean, modern style, decorated with neutral colors, cool tile floors, and photo murals of the Algarve. The most basic options face the inner courtyard; upgrade to a Superior or Premium unit for sea views, a furnished balcony, and a seating area with a sofa. Signature rooms add a large terrace with an outdoor Jacuzzi. Marble bathrooms are creatively designed to maximize space—most have open-plan layouts with rainfall showers and opaque glass for privacy. Accessible rooms are available, and all floors are reached by elevator.
Amenities
The hotel's main common areas open onto the large unheated pool, where you'll find plenty of sun loungers and a bar offering cocktails, snacks, and light lunch and dinner options. Breakfast is included in the rate and served buffet-style in a spacious dining area with marble floors, high ceilings, and plant-covered pillars. Expect classic continental options, eggs cooked to order, and Portuguese pastries (including pastéis de nata). The upper-story gym has a good selection of fitness equipment (plus large floor-to-ceiling windows and sea views), and there's a small spa area where you can book massage treatments.
Family-Friendliness
Children are welcome at the Lagos Atlantic Hotel, and you'll find several room options to suit larger groups, including a family duplex with two bedrooms and two baths. A small kids' swimming area is adjacent to the main pool, and breakfast offers plenty of kid-friendly options. Children over 13 are charged as adults, and cribs are available upon request.
