Intimate boutique cave hotel with private hot tubs, caldera views, homemade Greek breakfast, and premium concierge service

Overview

LimeStone Santorini has tastefully renovated a 1925 mansion into modern cave suites in Fira. The hotel's location in the Kato Fira neighborhood offers a bit of privacy away from the hustle and bustle of the capital. However, you can reach the shops, restaurants, and museums in just five minutes on foot. The fantastic sunset views of Oia are a 25-minute drive away, or you can check out the village of Imerovigli and its equally majestic views in just 15 minutes by car. The hotel's six suites combine the local Cycladic style of whitewashed walls and minimalist design with modern creature comforts. All include indoor or outdoor hot tubs and a clear caldera view, so the difference really is in size. The Superior Suite sleeps up to four on a mix of beds and sofabeds, while the Honeymoon Executive Suite can accommodate three. Those looking to relax in a bathtub can book the Junior or Honeymoon Suite, while the Superior and Honeymoon Executive Suites have cave showers.

Pros
  • The hotel offers stunning caldera and ocean views.
  • The intimate breakfast service features traditional Greek options.
  • Some suites have private terraces with heated hot tubs.
  • It's a short walking distance to Fira's main square and shopping areas.
Cons
  • There's limited natural lighting in some rooms due to the cave structure.
  • The hotel lacks a restaurant or bar, and there are no on-site spa or gym facilities.
  • The hotel doesn't have a 24/7 front desk staff.

Authenticity

Santorini's LimeStone exudes authenticity through its integration of natural elements, especially its utilization of local limestone, which resonates with the island's volcanic landscape. The traditional cave-like architecture harkens back to the historical dwellings of the islanders, offering an immersive cultural experience. The hotel's aesthetic, blended with contemporary luxury, reflects a deep respect for the island's heritage. It's a sanctuary that honors Santorini's past while providing modern comforts and local flavor.

Location

Within a 10-minute walk of Fira's central square, LimeStone Santorini is superbly located for guests eager to explore the island. Shopping areas and a kaleidoscope of dining options are similarly close, fostering a leisurely exploration of local culture and cuisine. While the hotel overlooks the magnificent caldera, the nearest beach is a 20-minute drive away. Guests can enjoy the convenience of being in a tourist hub without compromising on peace and privacy.

Rooms & Bathrooms

LimeStone Santorini's rooms feature COCO-MAT mattresses and a diverse pillow menu. Guests can enjoy spacious showers built into the natural limestone, ample counter space, and luxury bath products. Though some spaces share their designs with traditional cave homes, providing limited natural lighting, the design remains true to the Santorinian heritage while incorporating elements of luxury living.

Amenities

The hotel's amenities include a large, open terrace, turn-down service, and premium concierge service. There's no gym, pool, or spa on-site, but each suite includes a private hot tub. Due to the old architecture, cobblestone pathways, and limestone stairs leading to some suites, the hotel isn't accessible for travelers with limited mobility.

Family-Friendliness

Due to the geographical setting, Limestone Santorini doesn't allow younger children (and this is true of other hotels in the area). It allows children ages 12 and above at no extra charge, provided the number of guests per suite is within the permitted limit. The Superior Suite is the most family-friendly. Extra beds are not available.

Other Highlights

Breakfast is served directly to rooms. Guests pre-order from a menu that includes yogurt, freshly baked bread, dried fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, juices, and coffee. The options accommodate vegetarian or gluten-free diets. Each suite also has a refrigerator and mini-bar with snacks and drinks available for purchase, but the hotel doesn't have a restaurant or bar.

Beautiful hotel. The view is almost hard to take in because of how beautiful it is. However, we found it difficult to find. After our driver dropped us off, the signs on how to get to the actual hotel we vague. We dragged our bags up and down the walk-way (which is on cobblestone path on the side of a hill/mountain) and could not find it. The Limestone is connected/surrounded by two or three other hotels that all look the same. Anyways, finally I found where we go to check in and the gentleman came and helped my wife with her bags. They were very friendly and apologetic, and our stay there was good after that (apart from the A/C breaking the first night; which they did fix the next day). I want to mention the breakfasts - unreal! I have a feeling I will be craving their omelets, fresh fruit and yogurt for many weeks to come. I would go back now knowing how to get to our room! But just beware it might be a frustrating challenge when you first arrive.
