Indulge in Santorini's splendor at LimeStone – Where Luxury Meets Caldera Dreams

Overview

LimeStone Santorini has tastefully renovated a 1925 mansion into modern cave suites in Fira. The hotel's location in the neighborhood of Kato Fira offers you a bit of privacy away from the hustle and bustle of the capital, although you can reach the shops, restaurants, and museums in just five minutes walking. The fantastic sunset views of Oia are a 25-minute drive away, or you can check out the village of Imerovigli and its equally stunning views in just 15.

The hotel's six suites combine the local Cycladic style of whitewashed walls and minimalist design with modern creature comforts. All include indoor or outdoor hot tubs and a clear caldera view, so the difference really is in size. The Superior Suite sleeps up to four on a mix of beds and sofabeds, while the Honeymoon Executive Suite can accommodate three. Those looking to relax in a bathtub can book the Junior or Honeymoon Suite, while the Superior and Honeymoon Executive Suites have cave showers.

Breakfast is served directly to your room, allowing you to savor Grecian culinary delights amidst breathtaking vistas. Regionally inspired, the property entwines natural limestone elements, creating an ambiance that beautifully reflects its volcanic surroundings.

Pros:

  • Stunning caldera and ocean views.
  • Intimate breakfast service with traditional Greek options.
  • Private terraces with heated hot tubs in select suites.
  • Eco-friendly Coco-Mat orthomatic mattresses.
  • Short walking distance to Fira's main square and shopping areas.
Cons:

  • No on-site spa or gym facilities.
  • Limited natural lighting in some rooms due to the cave structure.
  • No 24/7 front desk staff.
LimeStone Santorini is characterized by its intimate blend of modern comforts and traditional Cycladic aesthetic. The hotel’s unique offering of room terraces with heated hot tubs and breathtaking views makes it an irresistible choice for romantic getaways or tranquil escapes. Each room, from the Honeymoon Executive Suite to the Junior Suite, is designed with an attention to detail that ensures maximum comfort and relaxation for guests. The thoughtful inclusion of Coco-Mat orthomatic mattresses and an extensive pillow menu underscores LimeStone's commitment to restful sleep.

The lack of natural light in some rooms, a consequence of the authentic cave-style architecture, is mitigated by well-planned artificial lighting, creating a cozy atmosphere. While this design choice might not suit everyone, it adds to the authenticity of the Santorinian experience. It is also noteworthy that despite being a tourist area, LimeStone's location promises a sense of seclusion, allowing guests to enjoy the island's famous views without being overwhelmed by the crowds.

The proximity to local attractions is a significant plus, with Fira's bustling main square just a short walk away. However, the absence of a complimentary shuttle service means that guests will need to either walk or arrange their own transportation to explore further afield. Similarly, while dining options are limited to an in-room breakfast service, LimeStone capitalizes on this by offering a customized menu and traditional Greek breakfast items that celebrate the local cuisine.

LimeStone’s commitment to cleanliness is evident throughout the property, with impeccable maintenance of room and common areas. The hotel's safety measures include camera surveillance in common areas, although it is worth noting their staff is not present around the clock. The relatively high price for laundry services and the lack of a gym may be deterrents for some, yet these factors are often secondary to the enveloping charm and breathtaking setting that LimeStone delivers in abundance.

Hotel´s Authenticity:

Santorini's LimeStone exudes authenticity through its integration of natural elements, especially its utilization of local limestone, which resonates with the island's volcanic landscape. The traditional cave-like architecture harkens back to the historical dwellings of the islanders, offering an immersive cultural experience. The hotel's aesthetic, blended with contemporary luxury, reflects a deep respect for the island’s heritage. It's an authentic sanctuary that honors Santorini's past while providing modern-day comforts and luxuries, ensuring an experience steeped in local flavor.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms:

LimeStone Santorini's bedrooms offer a tranquil oasis, featuring Coco-Mat orthomatic mattresses and a diverse pillow menu for personalized comfort. The room configurations—romantic double beds to family-friendly suites—cater to various guest needs. In the bathrooms, guests can enjoy spacious showers built into the natural limestone, ample counter space, and luxury amenities. Though some spaces share their designs with traditional cave homes, providing limited natural lighting, the design remains true to the Santorinian heritage while incorporating elements of luxury living.

Location:

Nestled within a 10-minute walk from Fira's central square, LimeStone Santorini is superbly located for guests eager to explore the heart of the island. Shopping areas and a kaleidoscope of dining options are similarly close, fostering an easy exploration of local culture and cuisine. While the hotel overlooks the magnificent caldera, the nearest beach is a 20-minute drive away, making it accessible yet serene. Guests can enjoy the convenience of being in a tourist hub without compromising on peace and privacy, and the safe streets of Fira promise a worry-free Santorinian outing.

Beautiful hotel. The view is almost hard to take in because of how beautiful it is. However, we found it difficult to find. After our driver dropped us off, the signs on how to get to the actual hotel we vague. We dragged our bags up and down the walk-way (which is on cobblestone path on the side of a hill/mountain) and could not find it. The Limestone is connected/surrounded by two or three other hotels that all look the same. Anyways, finally I found where we go to check in and the gentleman came and helped my wife with her bags. They were very friendly and apologetic, and our stay there was good after that (apart from the A/C breaking the first night; which they did fix the next day). I want to mention the breakfasts - unreal! I have a feeling I will be craving their omelets, fresh fruit and yogurt for many weeks to come. I would go back now knowing how to get to our room! But just beware it might be a frustrating challenge when you first arrive.
