Palmera Beach Hotel & Spa, Heraklion

Comfort
146 city and sea-facing rooms in a comfort hotel with pool, spa, and rooftop gym directly on Hersonissos’ waterfront.

Overview

Perched right on the waterfront, the Palmera Beach is in the heart of Hersonissos' liveliness. All 146 rooms have a balcony or terrace and face either the sea or the city. Amenities include a pool, restaurant, spa, rooftop gym, and garden. While the hotel has somewhat of a 1980s feel, it underwent a full renovation in 2021. Family rooms are available, as well as ADA-compatible ones, and its location makes it ideal for folks looking to be close to the sea and a variety of restaurants, bars, and shops.

Pros
  • Guests with cars can take advantage of the parking lot, which is a major convenience in Hersonissos during the high season.
  • Four rooms are equipped for people in wheelchairs. There’s also a ramp to get to reception and an elevator, so those with mobility needs can comfortably stay here.
  • The hotel is practically sitting on the sea, so the location is perfect for anyone who wants clear sea views and easy access to the beach, which is just a few steps away.
  • Work out with epic views thanks to the rooftop gym overlooking the sea or take a dip in the hotel’s swimming pool before or after your beach day.
Cons
  • Hersonissos has a very popular nightlife scene during the summer and the hotel’s prime location on the waterfront above bars, clubs, and restaurants means that it can get quite loud. Consider booking a higher or city-facing room for some more peace and quiet.
  • While the hotel went under a full renovation in 2021, it still feels a bit old school and dated, although some will enjoy that charm.

Authenticity

The family-run Palmera Beach opened in 1987 and it has a bit of an ‘80s feel to it. It’s the location that gives it this feeling, as this hotel has been an institution of Hersonissos’ increasingly popular waterfront for almost 40 years now. Guests can step outside and immediately be in the heart of the town's restaurants, bars, and shops. If you want to experience the Hersonissos that people travel across the world for, then this is the place to do it.

Location

Find the Palmera Beach on Hersonissos’ waterfront, so close to the sea that you can basically touch it. The hotel’s restaurant is right across from it, and the immediate surrounding area is filled with bars, clubs, restaurants, and other hotels. In other words, it’s lively, particularly in the summer, so this is a great location if you’re looking to be in the thick of things instead of secluded. Heraklion and Knossos are both 30 minutes away by car and the Heraklion Airport is 25 minutes away.

Rooms & Bathrooms

Various room options can meet the needs of different travelers, whether it’s couples, families, or people in wheelchairs. All 146 rooms have balconies or terraces and face either the sea or city. Sea view rooms are noisier in the summer due to the bustling waterfront, so book a higher city room for a quieter option.

If you’re looking for something more luxurious, check out one of the rooms with a private pool, jacuzzi, or hammam. Families or groups can book a superior open plan room, which sleeps up to four people, while people with mobility needs have access to four ADA-compatible rooms.
