With excellent weather and one of the most beautiful historical centers in Europe, Barcelona has a reputation for incredible rooftop terraces, with many sitting atop the city's hotels. These rooftops can offer numerous perks, such as sun decks, outdoor pools, bars, eateries, live music, and views. While staying in the city, why not combine your hotel with a hip rooftop?

For a luxury option, consider staying at the Mercer Hotel. Set in the Gothic Quarter, this property welcomes you right into the city's history. The building includes part of the Roman wall of ancient Barcino, preserved frescoes, wooden ceilings, and atriums from the 12th to 18th centuries. But, of course, one of its biggest appeals is the rooftop, arguably the most elegant in the city, complete with incredible views, a bar, sun deck, and an outdoor pool.

The giant rooms at Mercer Hotel also channel the property's history, with floor-to-ceiling windows, oak flooring, free-standing soaking tubs, and stone walls. The hotel starts room categories at a superior tier to maintain its elegance, though you can opt for a suite if you'd like to splurge. You can easily explore the historic city center when not enjoying your room. You'll be within walking distance from sites like Barcelona Cathedral, Plaça de Sant Jaume, the El Born historic neighborhood, the waterfront promenade, and La Rambla.

After a day of seeing the sites, you can relax with some of the hotel amenities, such as the Mercer Restaurant, which puts a modern twist on classic Catalan dishes and overlooks an inner courtyard filled with orange trees. And, of course, the rooftop terrace. Learn more

Serras Barcelona

Enjoy a plunge pool with an outdoor shower (Photo courtesy of Serras Barcelona)

What makes the rooftop at Serras Barcelona so appealing is the hotel's location right on Passeig de Colom, one of the city's main streets running along the waterfront and marina. For this reason, you'll get views of the Gothic Quarter and Port Vell. In addition to these perfect vistas, you can also enjoy a sun deck with loungers, an outdoor pool and shower, a bar, and a shaded lounge.

But the appeal of Serras goes beyond its rooftop (though it's undoubtedly a top perk), as the hotel also features a restaurant with a unique menu crafted by Michelin-star Chef Marc Gascons. And if you want to stay literally among Barcelona's history, know that the hotel's 19th-century building once housed Picasso's art studio when he was just a young teenager. The renovated space features iron, wood, and tile motifs to pay homage to Barcelona's industrial past, and you'll notice many natural elements to keep the hotel bright and airy.

You'll also surely enjoy the rooms at Serras, which combine the hotel's five-star elegance with unique art, pops of color, wooden flooring, floor-to-ceiling windows, spacious quarters, and bright, modern bathrooms. If you'd like to enjoy the sea views from your room, opt for a suite with in-room soaking tubs and/or seating areas. Learn more

H10 Madison
LUXURY

Dining on one side, pool on the other, and 360° views (Photo courtesy of H10 Madison)

If you want a rooftop terrace that feels like its own little oasis, stay at H10 Madison. Leafy plants border the heated (unique for Barcelona!) plunge pool, which provides the perfect refresh. The views are some of the best in the city—you might even feel you can reach out and touch Barcelona Cathedral's spire from your sun lounger, shaded by striped umbrellas. On the other side of the rooftop, you'll find an eatery and bar with alfresco dining, which proves to be an ideal spot for sunset.

In addition to a nearly perfect rooftop terrace, H10 Madison has a few other perks, its location being at the top of the list. We're not sure if you can get more central than this hotel, as you'll be almost in the middle of Barcelona's historic center and within walking distance of all the sites. You can easily explore the Barcelona Cathedral, Plaça de Catalunya, the Picasso Museum, Arc de Triomf, Port Vell, and even Barceloneta

The rooms at H10 Madison follow the property's red, blue, and white color palettes, which can make them feel a little outdated. Still, all are spacious and comfortable, and some have balconies and views of the cathedral. When not enjoying the rooftop or wandering the historic center of Barcelona, grab a meal or drink at Avenue Restaurant or the cocktail bar on the ground floor, featuring vintage designs and bright colors. Enjoy all the unique perks that Yurbban Passage Hotel & Spa offers, including its beautiful rooftop terrace with an outdoor pool, sun loungers, showers, and exceptional views. The rooftop doesn't add any other perks, but that keeps it feeling quite serene, almost like a reprieve from the city. You can also relax at the organic and vegan spa (one of the first of its kind) and enjoy other hotel amenities, such as a flower market, rentals for vintage bikes and longboards, a fun photo booth, yoga kits, and cooking classes.

Aside from the obvious perks, you can also enjoy the rooms, all of which (even the standard category) offer stately decor and ambience. Some rooms have private terraces overlooking the Ciutat Vella neighborhood, and all feature rainfall showers and luxury toiletries from the spa. As perhaps the ultimate perk at Yurbban Passage, all guests also receive 30 complimentary minutes to enjoy the water circuit at the spa.

Another reason to love this hotel is its location in the El Born neighborhood above a historic merchants' passage, where you'll find the property's flower market. You'll also be within walking distance of numerous city sites, the closest being Plaça de Catalunya, Passeig de Gràcia, and La Rambla. Learn more

Hotel Pulitzer
MID-RANGE

Spend a romantic evening on the terrace (Photo courtesy of Hotel Pulitzer)

In early 2022, Hotel Pulitzer closed its rooftop terrace for renovations, and they received numerous calls from locals asking when it would reopen. This demand proves it's one of the best rooftop hotels in Barcelona, one beloved by Pulitzer's guests and city residents alike. There's no pool, but you will find a trendy space with strings of lights, leafy plants, comfy seating, a bustling bar, and occasional events, such as live music, barbecue nights, and happy hours.

Besides its rooftop reputation, the hotel also offers other amenities, including the Green Restaurant on the ground floor, which focuses on slow food and a home-cooked approach. You can enjoy your breakfast and other meals here, dining on the outdoor terrace surrounded by plants. After breakfast, take advantage of Pulitzer's ideal location next door to Plaça de Catalunya, putting you within walking distance of many famous sites, including La Rambla, the Barcelona Cathedral, Picasso Museum, Arc de Triomf, Ciutadella Park, and more.

Another perk of Hotel Pulitzer is its quality of rooms. Even the standard options offer bright, modern, and stately decor, providing all guests with a sense of elegance. Of course, upgraded rooms offer a few extras, such as balconies, sofas, private outdoor terraces, and/or four-poster beds. Modern and clean bathrooms feature vibrant-blue tiling to reflect the energetic vibe of the hotel. Learn more

Duquesa de Cardona
MID-RANGE

Duquesa de Cardona is another hotel right on Passeig de Colom, the views making it one of the best mid-range rooftop hotels in Barcelona. Like Serras, you get the best of both worlds, set in the Gothic Quarter but with views of the marina and Port Vell from the rooftop terrace. Relax on comfy couches in the shaded lounge area, sip drinks at the bar at sunset, enjoy a meal overlooking the waterfront, or take a dip in the pool. You'll also have dining options downstairs at an elegant fine-dining restaurant featuring an extensive Catalan wine menu.

If you want to see it all, this is a great location. You can easily walk to the port, beaches, and Barceloneta, plus wander throughout the Gothic Quarter and El Born neighborhood, stopping at sites like the Barcelona Cathedral, Picasso Museum, and Ciutadella Park. La Rambla is just down the street, plus four metro stops within 10 minutes of walking.

When choosing rooms at Duquesa de Cardona, we suggest bypassing the standard and superior rooms, which feel small and a little simple. Consider a deluxe room or suite to embrace the hotel's elegance. You can even request rooms with harbor views. The bathrooms are clean and modern, but the deluxe rooms and suites offer more space and comfort. Learn more

Sonder Casa Luz

Though you won't find a pool atop Sonder Casa Luz, you will find a beautiful view and breakfast buffet from the rooftop terrace, a scenic and entertaining start to your days! The staff put a lot of care into presenting the buffet, greeting you upon arrival, and delivering fresh juice and coffee right to your table. You can also enjoy lunch and dinner from the rooftop restaurant, which features live music on the weekends. These fun perks are part of why Casa Luz is one of the best standard family-friendly hotels in Barcelona.

As a boutique hotel, the rooms have a trendy and relaxed feel, with warm wooden tones and a minimalist vibe. Despite being a smaller property, the rooms feel rather spacious and come with balconies and views of the street or inner courtyard. Family rooms have four twin beds, two side-by-side to create a double bed, and two bunk beds for the kids. If you have older children, you can request rooms next to one another. Opt for units with a private terrace for a bit more space and room to relax together.

As for location, Casa Luz is just a few minutes from La Rambla and Plaça de Catalunya, so you can easily walk to sites like Mercat de la Boqueria, Passeig de Gràcia, and the Gothic Quarter. And for the metro, the hotel is just across the street from the Universitat station. Learn more
