Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Egypt, the land of the Pharaohs

Cairo
Cairo

As you land at the Cairo International Airport, your tour coordinator will await you and escort you to your hotel in Cairo. Egypt's capital is one of the largest cities by population in Africa, which you will notice as your car takes you through the endless hustle and bustle to your hotel.

Relax and recover in your hotel from the flight, or if you have the energy, head out to get a first taste of the local Egyptian cuisine.

Day 2: Pyramids, Sphinx & The Egyptian Museum

The Egyptian Museum in Cairo

After a delicious breakfast at your hotel, you'll meet your guide, who will be with you for the whole day.

First, head to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, which contains breathtaking pharaonic remains from over 5,000 years ago. The colossal statues of Ramses II, the gold and alabaster trappings from the tomb of Tutankhamun, and the Royal mummies room are just a few of the treasures you will discover in the museum.

Continue to the Great Pyramids in Giza. First, you can explore the Pyramid of Cheops which is the only survivor of the Seven Great Wonders of the ancient world. It was built as a tomb, the shape intended to help the spirit of the dead pharaoh to rise to heaven.

Next, you can visit the Pyramid of Chephren, which is the best-preserved of the three main Giza Pyramids: the top part still retains the original facing of smoothly finished stone giving an idea of how the pyramids looked in the past.

Beside the Pyramid of Chephren, you will see the Great Sphinx, whose body stretches for 45 meters. Last but not least, head to the Pyramid of Mykerinus, which is the smallest one of the three Giza Pyramids.

Day 3: Fly from Cairo to Aswan, Philae Temple and High Dam of Aswan

After breakfast, you will head back to the airport to fly to Aswan. The city lies by the Nile river, the commercial and strategic gateway of Egypts' south since antiquity.

After arriving in Aswan, head straight to the beautiful Temple of Philae, dedicated to Isis, the Goddess of Love. Before the Aswan High Dam was finished in the 1970s, the temple complex was dismantled completely, moved a block, and built up again to protect it from flooding. Now, thanks to that and the dam, we can still wander through these ancient temples.

Continue to the Aswan High Dam, which was built in the 1960s and is the largest dam in the world. The dam has a great effect on the culture and the economy of the country, as it controls flooding, increases water storage, and generates electricity. At the end of the day, head to your hotel in Aswan, where you'll spend the night.

Day 4: Edfu and overnight Luxor

After a scrumptious breakfast at your hotel, continue your journey to Edfu. Here, you can explore the Edfu temple, which was dedicated to Horus, a falcon-headed god of Ancient Egypt. It is one of the best-preserved shrines, and the wall inscriptions reveal important information about religion, language, and myth.

Around noon, continue to Luxor, a city located on the east bank of the Nile river approximately 2.5 hours north of Edfu. Explore the breathtaking Karnak Temple.

Move on to the Luxor temple, which, unlike other temples was not dedicated to a god or pharaoh. Instead, the temple was built to honor the rejuvenation of kingship. Back in the days, this is where pharaohs may have been crowned.

Continue to explore Karnak Temple, which was used as administrative center, treasury, and palace during the New Kingdom. To date, it's one of the largest temple complexes ever to be constructed worldwide. Karnak Temple was build up over a period of 1500 years, with generations of pharaohs adding on to it, which makes this complex very unique.

After you had your fill of temples, head to your hotel in Luxor to spend the night.

The Ancient Egyptian root of the word was "Hikaptah" (Ha-Ka-Ptah), the name Memphis was known in 3100 BC at the time when it was the first capital of Ancient Egypt.
