What a wonderful personality he has!

Our trips to the Medinas with our guides made a great difference. We really enjoyed how Youssef (in Marrakech) and Hafid (in Fes) explained with passion about their culture, their history and their faith.

The hotel Riad Kniza was a beauty, but specially the owner of the Riad and his staff made us feel like family. The Saharai was gorgeous. We enjoyed how comfortable the rooms were and the food was delicious. However, the hotel in Casablanca could have been better in the sense that the rooms where a bit rundown.
The balloon ride breath taking and Abdala was such a treat to get to know. We will not forget our crazy photographer. Thanks for the wonderful pictures he took. We are truly thankful to everyone that made our trip so special.

We enjoyed our stay at Riad Kniza. The owner of the Riad and his staff were really helpful at all times and more than anything else they made us feel like family. The food was excellent. Breakfast at the Riad and dinner at the restaurant as well were delicious. Special thanks to Mr Mohamed Aït Bouskri for taking his time to greet us and to show us his Moroccan Art Gallery and explaining the meaning of the different art, the reason of the shapes and colors. We really appreciate how special this made us feel. Again thank you for sharing so much knowledge with us. Cecy, Lilly, Mary and Taty

Dear Cecilia,

Thank you so much for leaving such wonderful feedback!

First of all, I would love to thank you for your trust, commitment, and usual support during the last few months. You've been such a patient person and you've been always waiting for the right time to make your trip and achieve your experience with you. It has been a truly great pleasure to work with you and the other ladies.

For the experience in Morocco, I'm happy that you did enjoy my beautiful country. It's so unfortunate that you had 7 days only, but I'm confident you'll always think about a future visit to discover more locations, cities, and towns.

As for Mohamed, this guy is 100% a very great person to travel with. He is 1 of our rusted and more recommended drivers. He will be more than happy to read your review, the same for the local guides and the accommodations' staff.

Again, it was an honor to know you and work with you, Cecilia. I look forward to working again with you in the future and offering you another magnificent experience!

Beautiful Moroccan adventure. Everything was even better than expected. Hassan made our long-hours trips very enjoyable. He was very professional, super nice, kind, patient, and funny. He always had our requested water available and cold. He made us feel safe. Our check-ins were easy and smooth. The riads were the best stays, and every single one of our guides was very knowledgeable.
Ever since I came back I've been telling my friends and acquaintances that KIMKIM is the best company.

We absolutely loved our trip to Morocco, it was an incredible experience.
Our thanks go to our local specialist, Megan and her Kimkim + Wonderlust team who organized an amazing, memorable 14-day trip for us. From our first inquiry Megan, was professional, taking into consideration our age and interests. She was always prompt and patient in replying to our endless emails, concerns and enquires. Our trip was planned and booked in 2019, due to covid, it was rolled over to 2022 and a few changes had to be made, which Megan efficiently accomplished.
We can highly recommend Megan she was excellent; Thank you Megan, you gave us outstanding service.
Hmad Oussidi, was our excellent driver, he took care of us with smile, he was considerate, obliging, punctual and happily answered all of our questions. He introduced us to our local guides and the different genres of Moroccan music, plus he was good company. It was wonderful not having to navigate ourselves around the cities etc. He certainly helped to make our trip stress free. Thank you Hmad.
We found having a local guide in each city invaluable, they had different personalities, which made them even more interesting. Thier knowledgeable, insight and passion for their city, was commendable.
Our accommodation was excellent. We enjoyed interacting with the friendly staff and fellow tourists.
Each day of our trip was exciting and held its own special experience, so it's impossible to single out favourite experiences. We visited the four Imperial Cities and their medinas; they all had their own uniqueness and feel. Their history was incredible, so glad UNESCO is invested in helping to preserve various heritage sights. We so enjoyed getting a taste of the Atlas Mountains, the Berber villages and the countryside when traveling from one city to another. We had a great time in the coastal cities of Tangier and Essaouira, their history, medina and seaside atmosphere, was fabulous. The Hassan II Mosque is an architectural marvel with incredible artistry, it was awe inspiring. Chefchauouen, was visually appealing and we loved the relaxed atmosphere. We had a great holiday.
We can highly recommend Kimkim & Wanderlust Voyages.

We had a fabulous stay; the atmosphere was great it was attractively decorated; we certainly knew we were in Morocco. The staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Location was perfect, just off the main square, within easy walking distance to lots of restaurants the medina and various attractions. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The Riad Hicham Restaurant, was excellent we enjoyed the breakfast, ate a lunch in pretty little alcove in the courtyard, very romantic. The waiters were chatty and helpful re our menu choices; had a delicious dinner on the terrace. We can certainly recommend staying in Riad Hicham.

Marrakech

This hotel really lives up to its name, "Riad Wow." As we walked into the reception, we both said, WOW! We received a very warm welcome and were offered mint tea and biscuits. I couldn't stop my eyes wondering around the reception area, as there were so many interesting decor items. There was definitely a wow factor to the deco, in all of areas of the hotel; bright, bold, colourful with interesting artefacts. It certainly looked and felt Moroccan, with a modern touch. Our room was large, richly decorated and we were welcomed with rose petals everywhere, a lovely romantic touch. The wooden window shutters and doors were exquisite. Loved the huge, golden, tassel tie backs, very majestic. The courtyard had lovely pool and the surrounding area was interesting and colourful. The roof top terrace was where Moroccan breakfasts and dinners were a served, it was also a wonderful place to put your feet up and relax. We spent 4 nights in this special Riad and would do so again, in a heartbeat. We very got very friendly with the staff, nothing was too much trouble for them, they only wanted us to be satisfied and happy. I'm gluten intolerant and at breakfast I said another, wow! as I was presented with a plate of gluten free breads, a crepe and huge slice of breakfast cake, much more than I could consume. They said, I had to have a choice. A big thank you to the chef as our couple of dinners were also delicious. Our evening waiter was very knowledgeable, interesting and we were impressed with his language skills. We certainly had an amazing, memorable experience. We can highly recommend Riad Wow.

We thoroughly enjoyed this excellent hotel, the location was great, the staff are friendly, obliging and helpful. It's situated on the beach front and within easy walking distance of the medina and the harbour. The hotel is designed around a large outdoor pool, which is very pretty and well protected. We enjoyed our excellent breakfasts, outside, next to the pool. The hotel's restaurant and bar are on the beach, it was a good place to relax after a day of walking and exploring. We wouldn't recommend the Radisson Blu. When we arrived, we were told, they'd moved us to the Best Western, as they were full. We'd not had any prior notification thereof. (We think, they had a large group of more important guests to accommodate.) Our driver then took us to the Best Western where we spent the night, very pleasant. Radison Blu sent us, a bottle of wine, a tray of nuts and raisins and a note, apologizing for the inconvenience. (We weren't the only couple moved, luckily for us it was a one-night stopover.)

Riad El Amine Fès
Fes

This Riad is absolutely stunning. The architecture is authentically Moroccan, the symmetry, mosaic tiles, traditional carved wooden doors, lamps etc show off the sophisticated artistry of the Moroccan craftsmen. It's richly and beautifully decorated, it felt as though we were staying in a Moroccan palace. It was a very special experience. Unfortunately, it had no welcoming reception area. If you need to speak to a staff member you had to go hunting for them. The staff were very friendly and obliging but in general there was insufficient staff especially at mealtimes. During the breakfast period, we felt very sorry for the two staff members who were trying to serve breakfast, reset tables, plus checkout guests. (The credit card machine wasn't working,) They also had to get the departing guests' suitcases to the parking area. The food was good, but we did find the dinner menu very limiting and would've preferred an al a cart menu. No internet in the bedroom. Renovation was going on all over, so it was quite noisy. The roof top terrace was also closed. Very sad, as this Hotel has great potential, just needs to be managed correctly.

We changed our activity to a Berber Village Tour. It was great to get away from the bustle of Marrakech. Our excellent driver, Hmad fetched us, and we wound our way up into the Atlas Mountains, enjoying the beautiful scenic landscapes, and small 16th and 17th Century Berber villages along the way. We stopped at Setti Fatma where we met our young, local guide Mohammed. He led us further up the road to his small village, which was clinging to the side of the hill, all the while informing us of their way of life, their families, homes, culture and terraced farming. We explored the village, met Mohammed's uncle who invited us to have mint tea with him in his little home. We loved the interaction and it felt spontaneous. Mohammed recommended having lunch at a restaurant, alongside the Ourika River, Hmad joined us, the atmosphere was wonderful and the traditional meal delicious. We had an amazing experience, thanks to Mohammed.

Marrakech is a busy city, and we were so thankful we'd organized a guide and driver who help us to experience so much in one day. Our local guide asked us what our interests were, and from then on, he was very informative and engaging re the history, architecture, the Koutoubia Mosque, medina and the various other attractions we explored. We would never have seen and experienced as much as we did without our guide who helped navigate through the buzzing medina, you were continually getting out of the way people, mopeds, and huge carts filled with all manner of goods. We enjoyed the workshop area. What an experience!

Our local Essaouira guide introduced us to the harbour which was bustling with fishermen and tourists. While we strolled around the well laid out the medina, he informed us of the 18th century ramparts and the town's interesting history. It has a little bit of a hip vibe and easy to shop and browse, as you don't get hassled. Our guide recommended a lovely, terraced restaurant overlooking the ramparts and the ocean. We so enjoyed visiting this relaxed resort town with its beautiful long beach and promenade.

Our local guide, Mohammed Agali, gave us a wonderful insight into the amazing Imperial City of Fes. He introduced us to its history, its architecture explaining the significance of the intricate decor elements. He guided us through the maze of lanes and alleyways and told us about life in the medina. We would never have been able see and experience what we did without our local guide. He took us to the best spice souk ever and a hidden gem of a restaurant for lunch. We were interested in the various local crafts, which are a living tradition, but did find some of them to be a bit touristy. Thank you, to Mohammed, for enhancing our experience in Fes.

We found visiting Volubilis, this ancient Roman/Berber, partially excavated settlement fascinating. Our local guide was very knowledgeable, he captivated us with the history and the importance of this archaeological site. He made the ruins come alive for us, explaining just how this settlement worked, with its large merchant homes, water and heating systems etc. We loved his telling of the mythological stories explaining the beautiful mosaic floors etc. Definitely worth visiting. Next stop was the Imperial City of Meknes. Unfortunately, many of the historical sites are being extensively renovated, but our happy, friendly, interesting local guide Rashid, answered all of our questions and we did get an idea of the vastness an importance of these sites. He helped us explore the medina, the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail with its magnificent architecture and Dar Jamai, which was beautiful and interesting, gave us a good idea of a residence in 1882.

Ali and Said from Original Travel were very responsive in answering questions and adjusting our itinerary to match our preferences.

Our weeklong guide Karim was outstanding and really improved our experience. His spoken English is excellent. More than just a driver, he added a lot of local knowledge about the places we went, and also frequently pulled over at scenic vistas or interesting spots and took pictures of us, as well. Cheerful and outgoing, he seemed to know others at all the stops, and also helped us with calling local places for reservations. He also introduced us to a great guide at Volubilis, and advised at which stops a guide was a good idea versus those where we could go without.

Speaking of local guides, Hanan Edaali was our guide for a walking tour of Marrakech. She was delightful, and showed us some details in the medina that we would have never experienced on our own. We didn’t see hardly any other female guides during our visit—she is worth seeking out.

One of the highlights of the trip was Tiziri camp in Merzouga for our Sahara desert experience. Ahmed the proprietor went beyond the expected experience to offer campfire q&a about Berber culture and Moroccan history. We were so glad we chose to stay two nights there, which allowed us to have a day tour around the region to learn more about local history, culture and geography.

One final highlight was the Palais Sebban riad in Marrakech—what a wonderful lodging experience. Beautiful decorations and furnishings, great location, friendly staff—highly highly recommended.

Beware where your room is located. The Salam Fes is one of evidently at least 3 co-owned neighboring properties. For reasons never explained to us, we were instead initially put in one across the street with subpar lodging, a faulty toilet and a lower posted online price than Salam Fes. After complaining (including great support from Original Travel) we were moved to another Riad on the block called Scherezade, which was fantastic.

The location was fine but not great. The food offerings appeared limited (we went out to eat, though breakfast was good). Their bar literally ran out of wine and a local brand of beer while we were there. The staff was very helpful, however.

Tiziri Luxury Camp
Merzouga

Ahmed and his team were incredible. Beyond the hospitality (food, wine, music, accommodations), he offered so much local knowledge and passion. Also we made the wonderful decision to stay two nights, which allowed us to have an outstanding day tour on the region. It also allowed us to pass by a lot of the dozens of other camps in the area. Tiziri is superior with just six tents and some space and dunes between it and the next one. Nearby were larger camps lined up one next to the other—Tiziri’s set-up is so much better.

Authenticity & Character
Beyond just the music by the fire, there was active solicitation of questions about the culture of the region, Ahmed and his team are interested in teaching and providing understanding for their guests who appreciate it.

Before we headed to the Agafay dessert for 2 nights, we did a hot air balloon ride just on the outskirts of the city. That is definitely something you do not want to miss.
Next up- we stayed at the Inara Camp in Agafay. The camp was gorgeous and the service was impeccable. Seeing the sunrise on camel back is an experience I will never forget.
Finally- we made our way to the Atlas Mountains and stayed at Kasbah Tamadot. The hotel is one of the nicest ones I have ever stayed in. The grounds are breathtaking, the service was top notch and the people were so nice. They attended to our every need. We had a local guide, Jose take us around the villages with mules. We ate lunch with a local Berber family and were welcomed into their home. It was so wonderful to meet the local people and see into their day to day lives.

Honestly, this vacation was one of the best that we have ever taken. Our driver, Samir, was with us the entire time and he was incredible. Our tour coordinator, Said- made adjustments for us on the fly and was always only a call or text away. We will definitely be going back and we will definitely use this company, Original Travels, again.

The overall trip was a remarkable experience being my first time to Morocco. My guide Yassine and I covered a lot of ground in the 10 days I was there but that was what it was meant to be. My next trip to Morocco will most likely be to spend more time in each city/village, etc. to get more of the daily life experience.

As I mentioned, Yassine was my guide throughout the trip. By the second day, I felt like we were "brothers". We got along so well. His warm, welcoming nature and knowledge, I couldn't ask for more. I enjoyed and looked forward traveling with him everyday, he made the trip so easy. It was hard leaving him on the last day but hope to have a lasting friendship well into the future. I would certainly, without hesitation, recommend him as a guide. Here's to you Yassine!!!

So hard to pinpoint what was my favorite of places since they all had their own uniqueness. My top four would be the overnight in the desert (Merzouga), Chefchaouen (wished I had spend two nights instead of one), Fes and Marrakech. Feeding the barbary apes in the Atlas Mountains was a highlight as well.

In addition to Yassine, I also had day guides in some of the cities/villages I visited.

Taher, was my guide as he showed me the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Very pleasant, he informed me of the history of the once former grand city along with its demise.

My Fes guide, Said, was a true gentleman. Also a very knowledgeable, educated person who showed me the Royal Palace, Jewish Quarter and the medina. We had great conversation at lunch of which we shared New York stories as he once lived there for a time. I hope to reconnect if he was to visit NYC again or myself to Morocco.

In the oasis town of Tinghir, my guide Mustapha, showed me the palmeraie, which is a green oasis where the locals grow their own food and then we walked through the Mellah (old Jewish area). Although my time with Mustapha was limited, I was humbled by the experience.

Lastly, my day guide in Marrakech, Rachid, showed me the Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs and the souks (bazaars) of the city. Also a pleasant, happy person to be with, Rachid seems to be what I would consider a "foodie type" as he brought me to untouristed places for tea/coffee and then to lunch in the Mellah at a restaurant which served lamb cooked from a Merchoui underground oven made of bricks and local earth. The lambs are drained, steamed and roasted for several hours. If you're a meat/lamb eater, you've never tasted anything like this - amazing!

I will treasure my trip to Morocco in the years to come having the privilege to have met such wonderful people. I hope to return sooner than later. My love to you all.

We especially enjoyed Karim's expertise with the mountains and the lives of nomads and appreciated his willingness to share his own experiences. We loved our hike with Mohammad in the Atlas Mountains (Monkey Fingers hike) and the lunch afterward with him and his wife and Karim. All of the local guides were knowledgeable and friendly.

Even though we opted for accommodations that were more moderate in cost, the accommodations were comfortable and delightful at every stop. We especially enjoyed the Tiziri Luxury Camp in the desert near Merzouga and our last stop in Essouira at Riad Mimouna, which was just lovely. Our room was right over the ocean, with views and ocean wave sounds from both sides. We wished we had another day there.

Before the trip, Abdellah and Said were great at communicating, answering questions, and responding to requests for changes. I appreciated that Abdel stayed in contact (without being pushy) throughout the period from March 2020 to October 2022, when we had to reschedule and then reschedule again.

Thank you Karim, Abdel and Said!

I want to emphasize that we really liked our driver (I think his name was Mohammad) and appreciated the information he imparted at every stop and also about himself and his life. He was wonderful. On balance, however, I think we would have skipped this day and spent another day in Essouira. The tea in the Bedouin tent was not really with the Bedouins and just felt kind of sad. Their lives are so hard and this stop felt somewhat voyeuristic. The other stops -- at the mining area and at the dance place -- were not that interesting to us. Again, not the fault of the driver.

We were amazed at the good quality roads all over the country but especially in Rabat and Casablanca. We were blown away by the internet connectivity, even in the remotest villages and deep canyons.
Our accommodation was in all instances very good and above our expectations. Here I must mention that our best stay was at Chez Ichou in Boumalne Dades. The food was exceptional and the service, was by far, the best in all Morocco.

Our Top 3 memories from this trip were:
1. The hike at Akchour Park in Chefchaouen, where we drank mint tea next to the cascading waterfalls.
2. The desert camel trek in Merzouga.
3. The cooking class in Essaouira at Khadija’s Kuzina.

Hi Dirk,

We are glad that, generally, the trip met your expectations and we are particularly happy to read your rave reviews of Chez Ichou in Boumalne Dades. That is one of our favorite places and we are always happy to read that others enjoyed it there, too. We are also glad that you enjoyed your hike in Akchour, your cooking class in Essaouira, and the camel trek in the desert. We also appreciate the feedback regarding the SUVs and quads that you encountered there - we know that this can be a problem during the busy times of year and we did pass on your feedback to the management team of the camp (even though the vehicles of note were not from that particular camp). With that exception, though, we are happy that Morocco exceeded your expectations in many ways and that your journey was relaxed and pleasant.

So, thanks again. Take care and keep in touch!

Working with Mohamed and Said through kimkim to plan our trip to Morocco was seamless. They answered our (many) questions promptly and went out of their way to accommodate all of our itinerary changes and special requests - both before we left and once we landed.

We travelled to Morocco for 12 days and covered a lot of ground! The highlights were definitely seeing the sand dunes in Merzouga as well as the beautiful cities of Chefchaouen, Fez, and Marrakesh. At each of our locations, Mohamed and Said arranged for us to stay in spectacular riads, specifically in Chefchaouen and Skoura and the amazing Hotel de Arabe in Marrakech whose hamam was beyond!

Most importantly, our trip would not have been the same if not for our AMAZING driver Ilyace. Throughout our 12 days together he was an absolute pleasure; quite apart from being the world’s smoothest driver he is kind, engaging, informative, has a huge heart and a great sense of humour.
He shared a lot of interesting information about the country, answered our countless questions about all things Morocco and was incredibly accommodating and flexible when we wanted to make impromptu stops, spend more or less time at different places.

Thank you Ilyace, Said and Med for all you did to make this such a great trip!!!

We LOVED this Riad. While we stayed at several beautiful places on our trip, Samina, Greggy and the rest of the staff at Riad Chbanate were beyond wonderful. Personable and kind, they made us feel incredibly welcome - just like family. For breakfast, there is no menu, just the hosts, asking what you would like to eat and accommodating any and all requests and restrictions. Homemade breakfasts made in the kitchen (open for all to see on the main floor - just like home - what could be better?!) To boot, staff made excellent resto suggestions and very generously invited our two adult sons to join us for breakfast ( who were staying at a nearby hostel)! Rooms are spacious, immaculate, beautifully decorated and have fantastic bathrooms with huge tubs and showers. A very special place - and definitely our favourite Riad of the vacation.

Marrakech

This was by far my favorite hotel on our trip. The maison is spectacular. Service is top notch and comparable with any five star hotel anywhere. Despite its size, hotel has a very personal, warm approach, and excellent staff who go out of their way for hotel guests. Facilities are beyond beautiful and the breakfast - served in a gorgeous courtyard - was fantastic. Rooms are large and bed was the most comfortable one of our trip (ditto the uber-cushy slippers and robes). I waited until we got to this hotel for my hammam and it was well worth the wait. The hammam is gorgeous, and the treatment heavenly. Yes, I’m gushing, but this hotel is gush-worthy.

The grounds of this hotel, are like like something out of a magazine. Every imaginable kind of fruit tree grows around a lovely, oversized, pool in the center of the massive garden. Rooms are comfortable, clean and have lovely touches but a little tired. As we only stayed overnight (arriving late in the evening and leaving early in the morning) we were only sorry that we did not have a chance to stay longer, to spend time in the gardens and make use of the Riad’s lovely hamam and pool.

This Riad and its grounds were incredibly beautiful. Unlike many other accommodations in the city it is located up on the hill with unreal views of Chefchaouen. No need to go for a hike elsewhere to see the sunset or sunrise! So, if mobility is an issue this is not the place to stay. There are about 150 stairs up to the Riad - but the view is well worth it. Front desk staff was pleasant, the room was clean and bed comfortable but this hotel, that aspires to look modern - is dark and dim. Rooms are spacious but plumbing was poor (sink barely drained) and tbh, in 2022 no hotel room should have carpeted floors. When we arrived in the early evening (after a long day of driving) we were told that we could get something to eat on the rooftop patio. This turned out to be essentially a smokers lounge with a pool - positioned in the middle of the patio - empty of water. Location is central. Hotel lobby and rooms were heavily scented.

This was a long day of driving - and while scenic, much longer than the 4.5 hours described. Ultimately, we decided to divert from the scenic coastal route and take the highway to Casablanca to save additional hours of driving. Also, it would have been helpful for Said or Mohamed to have planned a place for us to stop for lunch as Options were very limited in this regard and ended up consuming yet more time. Despite it all, our driver was fantastic throughout.

It would have been nice if our guide, Hanan, had asked us for feedback about the food we had eaten since we had arrived, and/or what we were interested in eating, or trying. Essentially, they were a set number of stops in the Medina which she had planned in advance, and much of the food we had during the “tour” we had already eaten during our time in Morocco. There was only one “stop” (of five) that was a unique and tasty experience. One example: our guide stopped at a bakery and selected a number of cookies for us to eat. When I saw what she was doing, I went into the bakery, and asked about some of the items, but at no point did she ask me for input or if I thought there was anything we wanted to try. Similarly, she was aware that we had drank fresh juices earlier in the trip but still ended the tour with a trip to the juice counters - as this was something she had decided in advance we were going to do. It felt very routine and impersonal.

Hi Leanne,

We really love hearing from our customers that they enjoyed their trips with us and we’re always looking for ways to improve our services. Our staff always do their best to provide the best possible service to our guests and live up to their expectations, and we are glad that this commitment was reflected in your visit.

We are, however, sorry to hear about your experience in Boumalne Dades. We have been proposing this accommodation for our guests many years ago and we have never received any negative feedback about it. It's not really convenient that your guide in Fes pushed you to make purchases, it's really strange of him. I have contacted the hotel responsible in Dades valley and your guide in Fes as well and they promised that such situations wouldn't take place again. We have implemented a new communication system for our booking manager to double-check with hotels, transportation suppliers, and tour guides to assure that all the aspects of comfort are provided.

Sorry again for any inconvenience and looking forward to having you again in our country.
