Just returned from 11 day tour of Switzerland. Amandine was our agent who planned the entire trip. Everything was perfect. Every hotel she picked was very close to trains and extremely clean. We had lots of excursions planned by Amandine and the details on where to go what time to go etc. were very easy to understand. We never had any problems. I would choose Amandine to plan my next European vacation.

This was our second trip using KimKim. Tomaz and Zala helped us plan our amazing trip to Switzerland. Each day was an adventure! We went to the ā€˜Top of Europe’, explored ice caves, hiked down grassy mountainsides, rode e-bikes through the Lauderbrunnen Valley, watched the sunrise on the Matterhorn and the moonrise on Lake Lucerne. Our accommodations were really nice, with only 2 disappointing room selections (one was changed). The breakfasts provided were delicious with local meats, cheeses, eggs and fresh fruits and breads that kept us going all day (the champagne offering was over the top). We had never traveled exclusively by train and we were so appreciative that each train/funicular/tram journey was planned for us in great detail. Within a day we were completely comfortable with not using a car. We do not prefer group trips so our 13 day adventure was designed by Tomaz carefully to allow us to explore all the places and activities we enjoy. The was a trip one that we will always treasure. We have so, so many pictures!!

Hotel Reviews
Art Deco Hotel Montana
Luzern

This was our favorite hotel. The staff was wonderful and they changed our room from street view to balcony lake view. We shared a letter from 1966 when my husband’s mom and dad stayed there and raved about the accommodations and service. The staff at the Art Deco Montana were thrilled with this little piece of history and upgraded us to a most beautiful room as a thank you.

Authenticity & Character
This hotel has a grand location, overlooking Lake Lucerne. It was built in a time of elegance. The funicular from the lobby to the street was unique.
Location
Our initial room looked over the street in the back, but our upgrade was lakeside and lovely.
Staff
The staff was wonderful and called us ā€œthe letter peopleā€. We felt welcomed.
Cleanliness & Comfort
So clean, and lovely quality in every respect.
Eiger Swiss Quality Hotel Mürren
Mürren

This hotel was welcoming and so very comfortable. Located directly across from the train station, it is especially easy for on-foot travellers. There was a champagne cocktail hour for guests which we enjoyed.

Authenticity & Character
The front desk was helpful and friendly.
Location
Located on a quiet street (no cars) at the top of the Lauderbrunnen Valley, how could it be any nicer?
Staff
One guest helped us figure out how to use the hotel washer and dryer. Many laughs.
Cleanliness & Comfort
Love the individual comforters, beautiful bath and balcony room.
Boutique Hotel Helmhaus
Zürich

Although clean and welcoming, our room was tiny and the bath was barely big enough for one person.

Location
Close enough to the train station for a quick trip to the airport. And an easy location for a walk about Zurich.

After the long Glacier Express train we were happy to arrive in St. Moritz. We were again overlooking the lake and mountains in a beautiful room. The hotel was elegant.

In town, convenient, great food.
Staff
The last morning we arrived for breakfast to find the dining room filled with bus groups. The staff did their best to help everyone but they were overwhelmed. We still had a nice breakfast.

This was a clean hotel, with beautiful view. The room was fine, and comfortable. However the water in the shower was hot-cold-hot. The staff was notified and basically did not help us.

Dear David and Samantha,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback about your trip to Switzerland! I'm delighted to hear that you enjoyed your time with Marta; her professionalism and extensive knowledge of the region truly make a difference.

I also noted your remark about the large capacity on the Pilatus Goldenroundtrip tour. While this aspect makes the tour more accessible cost-wise, the experience and dedication of the guides are undeniable. Their commitment to ensuring you enjoy your time by providing valuable information and tips is truly commendable.

It’s wonderful to know that the e-bike and kayak activities were stunning and that the guides added to your experience! Your kind words mean a lot to us, and we’re thrilled you had such a memorable trip.

Looking forward to maybe organizing your next trip,

All our accomodations were convenient and clean, and provided good value for the cost. Few had adequate hanging space for hand-washed clothing (and often exorbitant laundry pricing). Some had very little space for placing anything so we had to rummage in our bags on the floor. Location and quantity of electrical receptacles was generally feeble, particularly since the vast majority had only one port and that was in many cases already occupied by a lamp or appliance cord. Modern travelers need to charge phones and other electronics, and preferably be able to use them while charging. We invested in a combination USB charger/plug adapter that took care of providing USB charging but only had one pass-thru AC receptacle (It replaced a lost adapter that only served to provide a port for our 3-port extension cord). At least one hotel had USB charging ports at each nightstand. Several hotels had receptacles that had 3 ports arranged around a central axis, which works for three ungrounded EU-standard cord plugs but does not accept our adapters or chargers without blocking the unused ports - making the outlet no more useful than a single-port one.
Meals at the hotels were all quite good to excellent . We only took one dinner in a hotel (in Zurich - excellent albeit from a limited cafe menu). Breakfasts were all great in terms of quality and variety. Our only gripes about breakfast are that the coffee machines generally can serve only a dozen or so tiny (but nice) coffee drinks, one at a time, to a line of generally sluggish and easily confused customers. Getting a decent-sized cup of black coffee usually takes multiple button presses and cycles, and a trip to the machine is best done empty-handed so one doesn't have to balance a plate of food while puzzling out the menu and waiting for the action. Some of the breakfast layouts were kind of chaotic, with a lot of walking around to scope out the offerings and decide on what one wants, then finding things in a rational order and navigating the traffic of other similarly challenged customers. A first-world problem, I realize, but it could be easier...
We spent for an upgrade to our room in Zurich so we'd have extra space for our final re-packing and some relaxing before the flights home, and it proved worthwhile. Hanging and shelf space were still limited and arranged so that it seemed we were always in each others' way or blocking a closet door when unpacking/packing . The ultra-modern bath was almost entirely open to view from the room, being walled with glass. We didn't mind the lack of privacy, having been married for 47 years now, but having any light in the bathroom illuminate the whold sleeping room was annoying. The toilet and shower were further isolated by a second, partially frosted glass wall which hid only the toilet. IMHO, a bathroom that has no provision for using the toilet then washing and drying at least the hands before handling one's clothes is barbaric. No amount of TP is ever going to beat soap and water. Oddly, the only bidet we encountered on our trip was in a 350-year-old house in Courmayeur (IT) remodeled as an inn by a young couple, in a small bath with everything in reach and a place to put everything two guests would need.
Maybe someday we'll stay somewhere that has, on each side of the bed(s), a nightstand, reading lamp, two receptacles compatible with chargers and adapters, hanging space, shelves and drawer space and a countertop or bag stand big enough for at least one large and one carry on bag. The room should also havelso two decent chairs, at least one usable desk with power, some open level space for snacks and personal items, adequate lighting for sorting, packing, reading out of bed and for the cleaning staff to see what they are doing. A dim nightlight in the room, switched from both sides of the bed or by a motion detector, and a second one in the bathroom placed to not illuminate the bed when the bathroom door is open should be standard. Bathroom lights should be switched inside the bathroom so they can be operated without waking a sleeper.
On our Tour du Mt. Blanc, many inns had a shoe-changing room at the entry, with at least a place to store dirty outdoor shoes, and some offered loaner sandals or mules for indoor use. Several had drying racks or cabinets and a couple even had hanging space for wet raingear and packs and wet clothes. These might be over-kill in urban hotels, but for folks who intend to do a lot of walking and sightseeing in whatever weather is extant they are a real attractive amenity.
Our transportation was fine - the driver who took us to Martigny was good comapny and full of information. The rail passes worked fine, though I seemed to have a hard time finding the daily ticket on my phone sometimes and had to log back in repeatedly.
The bike tour out of Interlaken was great fun. Guide Leo did a great job herding us (10) and laid on a nice picnic. The bikes were good quality and plenty powerful, though the saddles could be better. Getting a train of 11 bikes through the traffic of downtown Interlaken seemed a bit chancy, but Swiss drivers are a lot more courteous than Americans and all went well.
The Jungfraujoch was grotesquely oversold and overrun with tourists (like us), many of whom seemed obsessed with getting the perkiest selfie ever taken at whatever cost. Lines for everything, and lines for lines. Dirty windows so photographs from indoors were not practical, but there were few places one could stop inside anyway apart from at dining and shopping opportunities. We took a walk through the Discovery tour, partly icky and artless but partly interesting and informative, spent a bit of time out on the balconies and the glacier in worsening weather, then bailed out as soon as we could get onto the train. At Klein Scheidegg the food options were quite limited but we had a little lunch of food bought from the sausage stand and some we'd brought, then hiked down the trail to Grindelwald - quite enjoyable in a very unusual sort of rural setting, and a much-needed opportunity to de-compress and get some exercise.
The outing from Lucerne to Mt. Pilatus was very much more to our liking - still a little busy but much less intense than Jungfraujoch. Lower elevation, better weather and less imposing infrastructure made the whole experience there more comfortable partly because folks could spread out on the trails and outdoor viewpoints and there wasn't the sense of collective claustrophobia - just a bunch of friendly people out appreciating a beautiful place, mostly unhurried and un-flustered. The cogwheel train down and the boat ride back to Lucerne were also quite pleasant - we got back feeling like we'd had a fun, relaxing and stimulating day. We should have scheduled Zurich for other than a Monday as most of the cultural attractions were closed, but we had a good time walking and sightseeing, with a big bike race event to provide a little bit of buzz (though opportunities to see any of the time trial racing were quite limited).

Hotel Reviews
Hotel Phoenix Zermatt
Zermatt

Quiet area but convenient to the station and town, clean contemporary decor, good amenities (reading lights, charging ports), little hanging space outside of a small armoire, or layout area for unpacking (pretty typical - fortunately we didn't need to dry out any wet gear). Breakfast service is great, like almost every Swiss hotel we visited. There is a new hotel blocking the view toward the Matterhorn. Check-in was easy, recption staff helpful and friendly, knowledgeable about local hiking.

Authenticity & Character
Contemporary style with references to tradition but not kitschy at all.
Location
Staff
Cleanliness & Comfort
Could use a boot/shoe changing area at the entry and loaner sandals to help guests avoid tracking in dirt. Not a problem for us as the weather was fine.
Parkhotel Schoenegg
Grindelwald

Very good location WRT views, a little bit of an uphill hike from the station but worth it. Perfectly charming and helpful staff. We asked to move to a different room further from the elevator and were "upgraded" to one in the original section - a long walk from the stairs or elevator and a flight down to the room in a stairway smelling faintly of deep frying oil. We could exit the building directly outside our door but not enter that way, but the room was relatively spacious and well-equipped. Noisy people upstairs , but it's a hotel.... Breakfast service is excellent - so much to choose from that it's hard to just grab a quick breakfast without a couple days of reconnaissance to know where to find what you want, and the elaborate automated coffee machines are kind of a bottleneck.

Authenticity & Character
Nothing to distinguish it, but nothing to fault it for apart from the old wing that is too good to tear down but not up the the level of the rest of the building.
Location
Great view
Staff
Unobtrusive but efficient and friendly.
Cleanliness & Comfort
Could use boot trays and more hanging space for wet gear. Duvets aren't my favorite bedding - hard to regulate temperature. A top sheet, two light blankets and a duvet would cover more range with less draftiness or overheating.
Ameron Luzern Hotel Flora

Our trip was carried out true to the plan except on Day 6.
First, we didn't have the correct meeting time. It says 8:00am on the sheet but the driver said it's 9:00am.
Then the local guide is a different person as it shows on the sheet. (But she's a very good guide)
The route is also different. We didn't go anywhere before riding the speed boat to visit places. We hop on directly onto the speed boat cruising around and stopped to visit an estate.
It would be nice if changes made and we are informed.

Riffelsee and Riffelberg Tour - Guide Herbie had the good idea to visit the mirroring lake to the Matterhorn first, before the crowds got there
Likewise, we were generally pleased with the accommodations.

A couple of items didn't meet our expectations:
After agreeing to our itinerary and paying the amount in full, we were notified that the E-Bike Tour we signed up for was not available. After some discussion, we were left with no choice but to pay an extra charge to secure the Tour we had already paid for. That still doesn't seem right to me.
For the private transfer from Zermatt to Zurich, we had instructions to meet our driver at our hotel. When he didn't appear, we had to contact him to find out that he was waiting for us in Tasch, as cars are not normally permitted in Zurich. We then had to get ourselves to the Zermatt train station and find a train to Tasch. This should have been avoided and in fact, I sent an inquiry that night prior asking for clarification on that issue.

But overall, a very enjoyable trip.

One other thing is that the Mon Roadbook app provided great maps, but the written directions were harder to follow so I would recommend just using the phone app. It would have been great to have a bit more information provided about the amenities and what to expect at the mountain hut vs. other accommodations.

We really loved the trip and would love to go back!

We thoroughly enjoyed the trip to Luzern, Switzerland and Paris France. The excursion to Lindt Chocolate factory, Mount Rigi, Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, and MountMare, was worth every minute and very enjoyable. Travel Directions and Places to Visit Instructions provided by KimKim while visiting these countries were clear, concise and worthwhile. Having a designated driver to the airport was a convenient and useful perk. The hotel in Switzerland did not have AC which was an inconvenience and the bathroom was small. The Paris hotel was very small and breakfast food was sub-par.

What an interesting place! Another highlight of my trip was taking the scenic train to see the Matterhorn. It was a cloudy day, so I was feeling less than hopeful about getting good views, but on the trip up, the clouds parted and we had amazing views of the mountains the entire day. It was breathtaking! The itinerary and vouchers that Margaux prepared for me made my solo trip much easier, because I had a plan for each day and the information I needed to make getting from place to place easier.

With the help of Clothide, our travel agent assigned through KimKim, she was able to help us plan an amazing trip. It took quite a bit of back and forth for us to get everything just the way we wanted it, but she was very patient and professional through it all. When we found out on our way to Zermatt on the train that we couldn't get there due to flooding, we reached out to Clothide who, with her colleagues, were able to get us checked into our next hotel in Montreux a day early, cancel our Zermatt hotel, and get us a partial refund on our excursion we were unable to use in Zermatt. Without their on-call support throughout our trip we would have been completely stressed and not sure what to do next. Thank you, KimKim (and Clothide!), we will most certainly be recommending you to friends!

Our itinerary was lacking in detail and left quite a bit to be desired. We had no idea how to use the train system or even find the train station. Getting around was an obstacle and the amount of walking too much for our three year old. Perhaps on a trip with just adults and no small children, this would be fine, but was very difficult to have to navigate ourselves with our two small kids. I did mention my concerns multiple times during the planning process and it feels like my concerns were overlooked in favor of what was easiest for Bastien. We ended up relying quite a bit on our guide, Nicole. She saved our trip!

Hi Amanda,

First, we thank you for your review and comments, it always part of the process of getting better in our services and assitance. We are sorry that you feel this way after travelling with us, we are disappointed cause when one of our traveller is not 100% satisfied it means that we've not reach reaching our ultimate goal : make travel easier for all.

Also, we are not used to this type of reviews and our reputation is talking for us. Let me please reply sincerely to your comments and bring some transparency.

Along the process we tried many times to explain you the Switzerland transportation system requirements, using tools like maps, pictures, offical website links, and we gave you all our local knowledge about our country and culture. We shared together 201 messages, 15 mails, 8 programs and had many calls to discuss and give you all details and options about your program, hotel, guide, activities and transportation or possibilities.
By phone and through our common trip chat, we always tried our best to make it understandable as possible and we were always available, responsive, flexible and kind.

At the contrary, you were not always available, responsive and focused on the informations given, and we had to make few calls to repeat the same informations. We also didn't get all your informations right in time, for exemple we received your passport and flight information 3 weeks after your booking, and it took us few month after your booking to finilize your guided days when all the informations were given and planned.
We've been providing descriptions, informations, timing, pictures, pricing, possibilities about your program and we shared informations about what to do, in which order, when and how.
Despite that, you changed your mind few times about what to include or not, despite our tips, you wanted to included extra hikes and walks, while telling us that you don't want an intense program, not listening to our recommendations to not include more sights and visits & explanations about the car regulations and train transportation. Our guide Nicole even had to get into the process few times with you by e mail in order to discuss those last minute changes.

Also, during the process, you asked for a conciergerie service for your luggage on your arrival day, from the airport to your hotel, we informed you that we were not provinding this service usually but we made research and after few days we gave you an option with a dedicated company, after being informed that they were not able to deliver your luggage the day of your arrival we discussed the possibility of a transfer to avoid carrying your lugage in the train. You declined this option saying that it was over your budget. From the beginning of your request you asked us to make this trip happens under a certain budget which we understand perfectly so at that moment we searched for a better option for you in order to make it more comfortable. We changed your timed train tickets initially planned in Day Pass for 2 days on our own fees. With this pass you were able to jump in any train in Switzerland. When we talked about it by message and by phone you were completely fine with it. On your arrival you contacted us and you mentioned your unsatisfaction having to carry your luggage with your husband which we understand perfeclty. To answer to that, we told you that we would work on a better solution for your return transfer but the next morning you asked us to organize a transfer, so we did.

Regarding the accomodation, i want to remind that we shared hotel's and room's details, pictures and informations before the trip with website link, all in the sent program. We asked you if everything was fine at yout arrival, 4 times during your trip and you never mentioned this subject.

We surely care about our traveller and clients, and we are sorry that we couldn't communicate better with you in order to avoid those small issues.

We wish you all the best for the future and your next trip!

Best

Bastien

We got to Montreaux too late to see the castle or anything else, so it would have been nice to bypass Montreaux and spent the night in Zermatt. It was a little confusing when we were trying to check in to ride the train to the Matterhorn. We didn't realize there were two sets of tickets per person and the operator was getting a little flustered with us. We had a great time once we were able to get on the Matterhorn Railway. Grindelwald was beautiful and amazing. We loved, loved the Schilthorn-Piz Gloria. So beautiful! We loved riding the cable cars. The little village of Thun was okay but we could have skipped this visit. It would have been nice to visit Jungfraujoch as well, now that I know more about this area. Also, we missed seeing the Trummelbach Falls because of all the excitement of Schilthorn. Maybe the Falls could have been part of the trip details when going to/from Schilthorn. Luzern was nice but we were there less than 18 hours. Our tour guide (Adrian) was very enjoyable, likable, and knew the city. He was an okay guide. Lugano was beautiful and our tour guide (Patricia) was amazing and incredible. She recommended a small village, Ascona, for us to visit on the second day and it was perfect! We loved Patricia! Zurich was nice but we were there less than 14 hours. It would have been nice to spend an extra night there. Our tour guide was nice and had interesting facts about the city. Also, Valentine put together a nice trip for our family. She was very responsive on all our questions. If she was not available someone else assisted us.
