What you'll do
Delve into the Spanish food scene with this private cooking class, where you'll prepare a traditional three-course meal in a relaxed, family-like setting. The experience takes place in a fully-equipped private kitchen in central Madrid, close to Plaza de Ópera and the iconic Palacio Real. Here, you'll meet your chef Gabriela, a Madrid local with over 20 years of culinary experience, including as a member of the Spanish Academy of Gastronomy and the Culinary Institute of America.
After a warm welcome, she'll introduce you to the day's menu, featuring a range of authentic seasonal dishes. Next, you'll start preparing your food; think stuffed piquillo peppers to start, the world-famous, golden Spanish paella, perhaps marinated tuna, and patatas a la importancia con almejas (potatoes cooked in an egg and flour batter with clams). Gabriela will be on hand to guide you through each step of the process, sharing professional tips and tricks, and you'll even use produce picked from her own farm outside Madrid.
When your food is ready, sit down with Gabriela to taste your creations. Each course will be paired with fine Spanish wines, hand-selected to complement the flavors of your meal, or you can opt for a local beer or homemade lemonade. To wrap up the experience, you'll receive a book detailing the recipes you've learned to take home. This private class can be adapted for vegetarians and kids; you can even add a private guided visit to a food market with your teacher to pick out ingredients.
