Pros

• The staff offer wonderful hospitality, as they want guests to relax and feel safe and comfortable. So, feel free to let them know your preferences before you go, like types of pillows, storage, and views.
• The hotel includes stellar amenities like a massive indoor jacuzzi with a panoramic view of the sea, saunas with sea views, and a rooftop restaurant that looks over all of Chania, the White Mountains, and the sea as well.
• The hotel has a Green Key, which is a label that signifies the hotel’s commitment and practice of sustainability. The building includes solar power, automatic lights, and other environmentally friendly features.
• Guests with cars can easily park here, as the hotel offers a valet service.
• It is open all year round, which makes it a great option for those who want to explore Crete in the off-season and see an entirely different side to this rich island.
• The modern building includes an elevator, which can be harder to come by in Old Town, so it's a great option for those with mobility issues or looking for some more convenience on their trip.

Cons

• Folks looking for the Old Town charm that Chania is famous for won’t find that here but this neighborhood is perfect for those wanting a different and more local experience of Chania. Plus, Old Town is just 10 minutes away walking.
• The adults only label means that guests must be 16-years-old or up, so this hotel isn’t the best option for those with young children but it is a great selection for couples, friends, and families with older kids.

Additional Notes

The Chania Flair offers something different from hotels in Old Town, which are rooted more in the history of the town. While I love a landmark hotel, I also found something refreshing in this clean and modern option that's just on the border of the historic center, as it allows you to easily move between past and present and avoid some of the chaos of the high season crowds in the process. This hotel also smells great, which is a major plus for me.

Authenticity

If you’re looking to experience authentic Cretan hospitality, then you’ll certainly find it at the Chania Flair. The hotel opened in 2020 and is modern in every sense, as rooms include automatic lighting, Alexa setups, and QR codes to give you easy access to experiences and services. So, while this hotel may not have the history of some others in Chania, it still maintains that Cretan connection thanks to its welcoming staff, who describe it as “elegant and friendly,” which is exactly what you’ll get here.

Location

The Chania Flair is located just outside of Old Town, at the start of Nea Chora beach. It’s a perfect location for those who want to be close to the hubbub of Chania’s old center but be able to return to some peace and quiet in their rooms. Old Town and the Venetian Harbor are just 10 minutes away by foot, while beach lovers can grab one of the hotel’s umbrella’s or sunbeds on Nea Chora just outside the hotel. 

Rooms & Bathrooms

The hotel's 34 rooms span from standard doubles to a large penthouse suite that includes a sauna and jacuzzi. Families with kids over the age of 16 or groups of friends can either book connecting rooms or even get a hallway blocked off to create a separate apartment-type situation. Room types differ based on views, size, and amenities, as some include jacuzzis, bathtubs, and saunas and views of the city or partial sea views.

All of the rooms have wardrobes to store away your clothing, which is a breath of fresh air from the current trend of open storage racks. Folks looking for more space can book the large penthouse suite or the grand suite emotion, the latter of which has two bedrooms and can sleep up to four people. 

Other Highlights

The hotel’s amenities include an enclosed rooftop gym with a view of the sea, which closes in the early evening, as it’s situated off of the panoramic rooftop restaurant. Speaking of, that restaurant includes amazing views of the sea, city, and Crete’s famous Lefka Ori or White Mountains. Travel to Crete in the winter or early spring to spot the snow that gives the mountains their names. The hotel also includes a spa for folks who want to get treatments, plus saunas and an indoor jacuzzi that all look out onto the sea.
