Elia Erato, Chania

Standard
Modern simplicity marks these five loft-style rooms in a lively street of Chania’s harbor.

Overview

The five rooms of the Elia Erato bring space and relaxation to this standard hotel. Climb the staircase in the marble-lined foyer of this former house to one of its loft rooms, where you’ll find a hammam or steam shower and views of Chania’s harbor (but not its lighthouse). The Elia Erato has a family room and is also suitable for couples, who want something basic but a little bit nicer in the midst of the lively waterfront.

Pros
  • All of the rooms include a hammam shower, which makes this a great place for guests to relax and decompress after a day of sightseeing around Chania.
  • The hotel is located just behind the waterfront, so it’s ideal for folks who want to be in the heart of Chania’s famous harbor.
  • Room options can accommodate couples or families in this hotel that welcomes guests of all ages.
Cons
  • There is no elevator and all of the rooms are lofts, so folks with mobility issues are advised to look elsewhere.
  • While the location is central, it can also get quite loud and lively at night, as the hotel is near a number of popular bars and clubs. It’s a good option for those who don’t mind the nightlife but other folks may want to bring earplugs.
  • The hotel doesn’t have parking, so guests must park in one of the parking lots on either side of the harbor, which are 15 minutes away by foot.

Authenticity

The building of the Elia Erato was previously a hotel but it was originally a house and you can see those elements in details like the marble floor when you first walk in. The hotel feels like a nice house that you’re staying in, which gives it a sense of history even though the rooms themselves are decorated in a quite plain way. A large part of the feeling of authenticity here comes from the location, as guests are in the middle of the vibrant life of Chania’s harbor and waterfront.

Location

The Elia Erato sits on a side street just behind the waterfront of Chania’s harbor, which makes it perfect for anyone looking for easy access to Old Town and the historic sites of Chania. Old Town is just outside the front door, while the Lighthouse walkway is just under 10 minutes away by foot. The beach of Nea Chora is 20 minutes away by foot or 10 by car, while museum-minded folks can drive to the Archaeological Museum in 7 minutes or take a leisurely seaside walk there in 30.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The five rooms of the Elia Erato are all loft style and there's a two bedroom suite available for families or groups of friends up to four people. All of the rooms also include a hammam shower for those who want to relax in a sauna style setting. The design is simple and modern with a few touches from the original building like stone arches. Guests can sit out on the roof or patio outside rooms, which overlook the harbor but note that there’s not a lighthouse view from the roof.
