Eyja Guldsmeden Hotel, Reykjavík

4.6 (14 reviews) Upscale
Chic industrial boutique hotel with modern minimalist rooms, harbor views, a bar, and a restaurant

Overview

Ejya Guldsmeden Hotel offers a chic and modern stay in one of Reykjavík's up-and-coming neighborhoods, Holt, which is both residential and central. The hotel is just one block away from Laugavegur, downtown's most famous shopping street, and it's next to Hlemmur Square, an old bus terminal that's on track to becoming a fresh food market. Iceland's tallest church, Hallgrimskirkja, is just 15 minutes away, or you can stroll along the picturesque harbor within 10 minutes.

The hotel's style combines Scandinavian minimalism and coziness with an industrial space to create bright rooms. Canopy beds, fur swatches, and leather furniture add a sense of design and warmth. Single, double, and triple rooms are available so all travelers can find a comfortable option. Superior Rooms are larger and may have views of the water and harbor. White-tiled bathrooms include showers with handheld showerheads that can be attached to the wall.

Relax in one of the common areas, like the inviting lounge filled with leather armchairs or the cocktail bar, whose cowhide decoration is bound to make an impression. Enjoy a meal in the on-site restaurant, which offers a great breakfast and a tasty menu of local dishes.

We loved this hotel! It is beautiful. The decor is fabulous. I would definitely stay here again. The view of the waterfront from our room was amazing. We delighted in watching the boat traffic and seeing the mountains off in the distance. Thy do offer parking behind the hotel. The lounge was lovely. The staff was friendly and helpful. They do not include breakfast with the room but the cost did not seem unreasonable. Read more

I am a kimkim staff member and stayed at this hotel for one night during my Iceland trip in March.
The Eyja hotel is a cozy and welcoming boutique hotel located just outside of the main city center of Reykjavik. The walking distance to the main shopping streets is about 5-10 minutes. It has an uphill location and offers views over the Sun Voyager and the sea.
A bigger supermarket can be found just behind the hotel with for Iceland reasonable prices.

The hotel has a balinese inspired style with lots of bamboo and wood items. The hotel rooms are a little bit on the smaller side but very comfortable. They are equipped with a kettle and instant coffee and tea, ironing facilities and a flat-screen TV with regional and some international channels. Bathrooms have a walk-in shower and free high-quality toiletries.
Breakfast is served every morning in buffet style. If it is not included in the room rate, it is worth paying for it (around 30 USD). A great choice of high-quality organic and local products is offered such as organic scrambled eggs, Icelandic salmon, butter, cheeses and Skyr as well as fresh bread, buns, pastries and fruits. If you feel brave enough, you can take a shot of Icelandic fish oil made from Cod.
A little fitness room can be found on the first floor. It is equipped with a rowing machine, a pull-up bar, a cable machine, free weights and some yoga matts. Everything is made from wood and working without any electricity.
The biggest bonus of the hotel is the free parking right in front. Parking spaces cannot be reserved, however there are plenty.
The staff is very friendly and attentive.

Authenticity & Character
Nothing really stood out or differentiated the hotel itself. Was a bit more institutional given it is in Iceland's largest city versus the smaller rural location that we mostly visited on out trip.
Location
While we walked to the Hallgrimskirkja church, the Loki Cafe, and the Rainbow Street (about 15-20 minutes away) the immediate location was not necessarily scenic or historic. We were fine with just having a good hotel to sleep in.

What a cute hotel! There was breakfast, and a restaurant on site. The rooms were darling and had very comfortable beds. The TVs are not smart tvs so you're limited to like 6 channels. There's a gym, and there's a Bonus grocery store right behind the hotel. Walking distance to a food hall, but it would be a pretty far walk to downtown where the shops and restaurants are. Read more
