Delta Hotels by Marriott San José Aurola, San José
Downtown high-rise hotel with indoor pool, multiple dining options, and city views from upper floors
Overview
Delta Hotels by Marriott San José Aurola is easy to spot—a 17-story building with a silvery, retro exterior and large windows. With nearly 200 rooms, the hotel was built in 1986, and although it's been renovated a few times since then, the overall style is a bit dated. However, the hotel is comfortable and family-friendly, and it provides easy access to some of the city's most popular sites, including the Gold Museum, Jade Museum, and National Theater. Other perks include two restaurants, a gym, and an indoor pool.
Kimkim's Take

Pros
- You'll be in an excellent location in the historic center of San José, just a 10-minute walk from main attractions, like the Gold Museum, Jade Museum, National Theater, and National Museum, and steps away from plenty of restaurants, bars, cafés, and shops.
- Amenities include a swimming pool, gym, a bar, and two restaurants, one with views of the city.
- In the morning, an extensive breakfast buffet features hot and cold dishes.
- Rooms on higher floors provide impressive views of the city and surrounding mountains.
- Families will benefit from policies like free stays for kids under 18 and complimentary dining for children under 11.
- The in-room decor is somewhat generic and outdated.
- Due to its urban location, noise can be a bit of a problem.
Authenticity
Delta Hotels by Marriott San José Aurola is your standard, budget-friendly hotel, but this location is hard to miss in the city's historic downtown area. The modern, 17-story structure with a solid facade of windows draws a lot of attention, but although the exterior feels a bit cold, the lobby is warm and bright with colorful artwork and tropical plants.Location
The hotel's main perk is its central location in the city's historic core, just in front of Parque Morazán. You'll find numerous restaurants, bars, cafés, and shops within a few blocks. Within a 10-minute walk, you'll reach sites like the National Museum of Costa Rica, the Jade Museum, the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, and the National Theater of Costa Rica.Rooms & Bathrooms
The Delta Hotels by Marriott San José Aurola rooms are big and bright, but the bathrooms are pretty dated and could use a refresh. You'll find a variety of room configurations—including suites with spa bathtubs, pull-out sofas, and desks—and can book connecting rooms, which may be helpful if traveling with family or friends. Thanks to the hotel's multiple stories and large windows, many rooms offer views of San José and its surroundings.Amenities
The hotel has a large indoor swimming pool with a skylight and a fitness center with elliptical machines, free weights, stationary bicycles, and treadmills. There are two restaurants, El Mirador and Tropicana. On the 17th floor, El Mirador serves dinner and has sweeping city views. The a la carte menu is international. Tropicana is casual and serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. It's located on the first floor, beside the lobby. An on-site sports bar, La Palma, also offers happy-hour specials. There are a range of accessibility features throughout the property, and a few rooms are reserved for travelers with limited mobility. Entrances throughout the hotel are wheelchair-accessible, and there's an elevator.
Family-Friendliness
Delta Hotels by Marriott San José Aurola welcomes families, offering free stays for kids under 18 when sharing a room with parents. Up to two children aged 11 or under can dine for free per adult at the on-site restaurants, with a limit of four kids per dining party. The hotel provides infant cots at no extra charge and in-room childcare services for a fee, allowing parents some flexibility. Adjoining rooms are available for larger families, and the central location ensures easy access to nearby attractions and parks.Like what you see?

A good place to stay. Downtown. But be aware of robbery on the streets, as we have heard from fellow guests.
Restaurant: good. But we had to wait a very long time before being served because a group was there ( came even after us).
I talked to the manager after ~ 2 hours waiting
( not even water was served) and he apologized and reimbursed our dinner.
Lesson learned: go in restaurant when no group is there. Read more

My stay was very brief because of the drop off time and the pick up time and my Wi-Fi would not work in my hotel room. I had to come downstairs in the lobby and the food was not that good

We stayed at the place for 6 hours to rest before flying out back home. Clean room with AC, friendly staff. In center of San Jose. Negative: poor lighting.

This hotel wasn't "amazing" but it was fine and served it's purpose. We checked in at 10 at night and were gone the next day by 2. The rooms were dated and drab but everything worked. Great water pressure in the shower. We were hungry when we got in but didn't know where to find food at such a late hour. The person at the front desk let us know that we could order via Uber Eats. 45 minutes later we were eating Chinese food in our room. If he hadn't mentioned it, I'm not sure we would have...
