Pros
  • The hotel's unique architecture and design blend traditional and modern elements—a concrete building with a chic aesthetic.
  • This is an ideal location if you want to stay in the Old Town, as you'll be just three minutes from the cathedral and five minutes from Plaza Nueva.
  • Enjoy your meals at one of the hotel's two restaurants that follow the city's culinary expectations—a Michelin-star chef supervises both.
  • Relax in the hotel's "chill room" set in the attack on the seventh floor.
  • If you want to work out, you can use the 24/7 gym, and there's also bicycle parking if you plan to bike in the beautiful Basque Country.
Cons
  • If arriving by car, keep in mind that the hotel doesn't have parking and is in an area of the city that's limited to vehicles.
  • You'll have to upgrade to one of the more expensive rooms to enjoy the views.

Authenticity

Hotel Tayko Bilbao is a prime example of modern, industrial architecture that blends perfectly with the city's vibe. As the fourth building in Spain to be built in the concrete style, this hotel offers a unique experience. Besides its architectural history, the hotel's gastronomy is also a big focus. Its two restaurants are by Chef Martín Berasategui, the proud owner of 12 Michelin stars.

Location

Situated in the heart of the Old Town and facing the river, Hotel Tayko Bilbao is a great place to use as a hub and explore the city's top spots. You'll be right on the main riverfront boulevard and on Mesedeetako Bridge. Just steps away from the hotel are attractions like Teatro Arriaga, Bilbao Cathedral, Erribera Market, and Plaza Nueva. Getting to the Guggenheim Museum takes a bit longer (25 minutes) but follows the river and passes sites like the Zubizuri Bridge.

Rooms & Bathrooms

Hotel Tayko Bilbao offers a variety of room options; all are comfortable with fluffy linens, an industrial-lux vibe, wooden furnishings, and neutral tones. Some rooms offer river views or balconies, while others have windows that open to a quiet inner courtyard. The View Room even allows you to enjoy estuary views from both the bed and bathtub, making it perfect for a romantic stay. All rooms come equipped with full bathrooms, modern amenities, and L'Occitane toiletries.

Amenities

The Hotel Tayko Bilbao may not have a pool or a spa, but the basic necessities are covered. Limited parking is available at the hotel for a fee; reservations are a must. You’ll find a small fitness center with cardio machines and free weights open 24/7. There is a sunny lounge on the top floor with great views to relax after a busy day. The hotel is generally wheelchair friendly, with ramps and elevators installed, but some rooms are unsuitable for wheelchairs.

Family-Friendliness

Children of all ages are welcome, and baby cribs can be requested ahead of time when booking a room. Some suites are great for families, but the hotel caters more to adults, so no amenities are tailored to families with kids.

Other Highlights

The hotel is quite the food destination. Its main restaurant, Ola Martin Berastegui, has one Michelin star and is run by famous Basque chef Martin Berasategui. There is also the more casual gastropub and wine bar La Bodega de Ola, which offers tapas-style dishes with excellent wines. Breakfast features Basque specialties and fresh pastries, but the price is not included in the room rate.
