Overview

Súmmum Prime Boutique Hotel sits on a quiet street in Palma's historic Old Town, just a few minutes from two popular avenues and numerous cultural sites. Originally the 15th-century Ca'n Berga-Ladaria Palace, the building was renovated with modern rooms and amenities in 2017. The property still has high ceilings, wood beams, and frescoes. Some rooms have balconies and/or private pools, and guests can relax in the garden terrace, bar, and spa.

Pros
  • Enjoy a location within walking distance from most of Palma's sites, as you'll be just a few minutes from La Rambla and Passeig del Born streets.
  • The hotel sits in a 15th-century palace with ceiling frescoes, original windows, and marble staircases.
  • Guests can relax in the library lounge with a coffee or cocktail.
  • The garden has an outdoor terrace where you can enjoy breakfast, coffee, and wine.
  • The spa area, located in an old cellar under vaulted ceilings, is open 24 hours.
Cons
  • You must reserve a time to use the spa or rooftop pool.
  • There's no on-site gym.
  • In colder months, breakfast is served in a wine cellar that some guests reported is dark and somewhat cramped.
  • There can be outside noise from a school next door and curbside garbage collection.

Authenticity

Enjoy staying in a historical five-story, 15th-century palace from the city's Gothic era, once owned by the Ca'n Berga-Ladaria and Ca'n Vidal families. The owners renovated the building in 2017, a project led by the interior designer Elvira Blanco. The architecture, design, and decor offer a special experience thanks to preserving elements like frescoed and coffered ceilings.

Location

You'll be on a charming stoned street in Palma's Old Town across from a picturesque church. The city's famous giant ficus tree is just three minutes away by foot, though you can keep going another minute or so to reach the famous La Rambla street. You can also walk to the Passeig del Born shopping street in three minutes, Plaça Major in 10 minutes, and the Catedral de Mallorca with its waterfront Parc de la Mar in about 12 minutes.

Rooms & Bathrooms

You'll have your choice of 18 rooms, all with refined decor and furnishings, plus amenities like feather-topped mattresses, bathroom kits, and the option to borrow hair styling tools. Beds have 600-thread count Egyptian cotton monogrammed sheets. Upgraded units add more space, seating areas, sofas, and balconies or terraces. For a little extra history, book the highest-tiered suite, which features a ceiling fresco by the 19th-century artist Francesc Pariett. Or, for a bit of luxury, grab the junior suite with its massive marble bathroom and soaking tub.

Amenities

On Súmmum's rooftop terrace, you'll find an outdoor pool and sun deck with loungers (available in 45-minute time slots by reservation only). Drinks and food are available at the rooftop pool. A 24/7 spa in the building's historic cellar is accessible only in private 45-minute time slots (by reservation only). The space has a Jacuzzi and a Finnish sauna with a star-lit ceiling. The library lounge is a great spot to enjoy a coffee. The hotel has a ramp, an elevator, and one adapted room for wheelchair users.

Family-Friendliness

Families are welcome at Súmmum. Children aged 14 and older are charged as adults; there are reduced rates for kids aged 13 to 3, and babies up to age two stay for free. The hotel has cots and cribs to add to any room, and a babysitting service is available. The breakfast has kids' options, and the hotel is stroller-friendly.

Other Highlights

Breakfast and a bar menu are served at the hotel; there's no full-service restaurant. The hotel serves a buffet breakfast—in the summer, it's served in the first-floor courtyard. The 1874 Lounge Bar and Terrace is in the hotel's enclosed first-floor courtyard and is open every day from noon to midnight, serving snacks and a full bar menu with a wide selection of wines, beers, and spirits.
