When choosing a hotel in Barcelona, you'll find plenty of mid-range options that fit various budgets while still offering boutique perks, like historical elements, cozy lounges, and outdoor terraces. Whether traveling with your partner or bringing the whole family, some of the best mid-range boutique hotels in Barcelona provide amenities that suit any traveler.

Hotel Pulitzer

In early 2022, Hotel Pulitzer closed its rooftop terrace for renovations, and the property received numerous calls from locals asking when it would reopen. This demand and fanbase prove it's one of the best mid-range boutique options, beloved by visitors and city residents. You'll find a trendy space on the rooftop, with strings of lights, leafy plants, comfy seating, a bustling bar, and occasional events, such as live music, barbecue nights, and happy hours.

Besides its rooftop reputation, this boutique hotel also offers other amenities, including the Green Restaurant on the ground floor, which focuses on slow food and a home-cooked approach. You can enjoy your breakfast and other meals here, dining on the outdoor terrace surrounded by plants. After breakfast, take advantage of Pulitzer's ideal location next door to Plaça de Catalunya, putting you within walking distance of many famous sites, including La Rambla, the Barcelona Cathedral, Picasso Museum, Arc de Triomf, Ciutadella Park, and more.

Another perk of Hotel Pulitzer is its quality of rooms. Even the standard options offer bright, modern, and stately decor, providing all guests with a sense of elegance. Of course, upgraded rooms offer a few extras, such as balconies, sofas, private outdoor terraces, and/or four-poster beds. Modern and clean bathrooms feature vibrant-blue tiling to reflect the energetic vibe of the hotel. Learn more

Yurbban Trafalgar Hotel

Simple yet cozy, modern rooms (Photo courtesy of Yurbban Trafalgar Hotel)

"Live as a native" is the motto at Yurbban Trafalgar Hotel, meaning the property strives to give you a local experience. The hotel achieves this with unique amenities like breakfast, homecooked goodies, vintage-looking Finna Barcelona bikes and longboards for rent, and an on-site restaurant offering unique dishes, private dining experiences, and cooking workshops. Another highlight of the property is its rooftop terrace, known as one of the top five terraces in Barcelona, complete with a pool, bar, and lounge.

Generally, the rooms feel a little left behind, considering the hotel's overall modern style and amenities. Still, all units are spacious and comfortable, some offering seating areas and private terraces. Bathrooms provide you with all you might need, though they feel more like a standard hotel.

The property's sister hotel next door is one of the best luxury boutique hotels in Barcelona, and as a guest of Yurbban Trafalgar, you can use its spa facilities upon request. Next door, you'll find the historic merchants' passage with the hotel's flower market. You'll also be equidistant from the Arc de Triomf and Plaça de Catalunya, plus within walking distance to sites like La Rambla, Mercat de la Boqueria, Passeig de Gràcia, and Barcelona Cathedral. Hotel España

Staying on La Rambla is a dream for many, and you can do this at Hotel España, next door to Gran Teatre del Liceu and Mercat de la Boqueria. Nearly everything is within walking distance from the hotel, including the Gothic Quarter with the Barcelona Cathedral, Plaça de Catalunya, and the medieval Plaça del Rei. You'll also be just about 15 minutes from Port Vell's quirky walkway, Rambla De Mar

Hotel España is one of the oldest hotels in Barcelona, dating back to 1850. Between 1898 and 1901, it underwent a Modernist renovation and won architectural awards and praise, so you'll be sleeping among history. And that age is a little apparent in the hotel's rooms, which feel like they could use a little refreshing. Because of this, we recommend a deluxe room or suite, which provides more space and a balcony or terrace. Bathrooms are clean and modern and come with the hotel's toiletries brand.

There are quite a few highlights at Hotel España, the first being its sleek restaurant with a Modernist dining room, tasting menu, and wine pairings. You can also enjoy the rooftop terrace with a tapas bar, plunge pool, and occasional events, or relax in the lobby bar, patio, and inner courtyard. Learn more

Duquesa de Cardona

One of the best rooftops in Barcelona (Photo courtesy of Duquesa de Cardona)

Duquesa de Cardona is right on Passeig de Colom, giving you the best of both worlds, as it's set in the Gothic Quarter but with views of the marina and Port Vell. The property is one of the best rooftop hotels in Barcelona, offering a terrace with comfy couches in a shaded lounge area, drinks at the bar at sunset, meals overlooking the waterfront, and dips in the pool. You'll also have dining options downstairs at an elegant fine-dining restaurant featuring an extensive Catalan wine menu.

If you want to see it all, this is a great location. You can easily walk to the port, beaches, and Barceloneta, plus wander throughout the Gothic Quarter and El Born neighborhood, stopping at sites like the Barcelona Cathedral, Picasso Museum, and Ciutadella Park. La Rambla is just down the street, plus four metro stops are all within 10 minutes of walking.

When choosing rooms at Duquesa de Cardona, we suggest bypassing the standard and superior rooms, which feel small and a little simple. Consider a deluxe room or suite to embrace the hotel's elegance. You can even request rooms with harbor views. Bathrooms are clean and modern, though, once again, the deluxe rooms and suites offer more space and comfort. Learn more

Casa Bonay

Relax on the rooftop (Photo courtesy of Casa Bonay)

Casa Bonay feels like its own little city, a trendy and vibrant hotel that welcomes you with neon signs and tons of plant life. You won't go hungry here, as the property has four eateries: a specialty coffee bar (Satan's Coffee Corner), a cocktail lounge with bar food (Libertine), a rooftop bar and barbecue restaurant (Chiringuito), and a gourmet tapas spot with natural wine and local ingredients (Bodega).

The hotel is on the corner of the Eixample and El Born neighborhoods and within walking distance of many significant sites, including the Arc de Triomf, Casa Milà, and (bonus) La Sagrada Família. You'll also be next door to the Tetuan metro and one block from the Girona metro, should you want to zip across the city or head to the beach. After a day of sightseeing, spend time at the rooftop terrace, complete with dining, sun loungers, couches, and an outdoor shower to rinse off after sunbathing.

Casa Bonay has eight room types, all following the hotel's vibrant, energetic, and colorful theme. To fully take advantage of the hotel's essence, we suggest skipping the "tiny room" category and grabbing a passage- or courtyard-facing room or upgrading to one with a private terrace featuring hammocks, sun loungers, and an outdoor shower. Some rooms also offer yoga kits to stretch your body after walking around the city. Learn more

ICON Barcelona has plenty of perks to enjoy. You'll find an outdoor pool (complete with a waterfall), plus sun loungers and giant bean bag chairs on its terrace. You can also enjoy an elaborate breakfast buffet in the property's Mediterranean restaurant, serving lunch and dinner with the option of alfresco dining by the pool. The spacious lobby lounge is also a nice area to relax on sofas, sip drinks from the bar, or rent bikes right from the reception.

Rooms at ICON are bright, spacious, and modern, with lovely little touches, such as comfy lounge chairs and SMEG kettles. Family rooms offer either one double and one single bed or one double and a set of bunk beds. However, there's no seating area in the triple and quadruple rooms. Though the rooms feel modern, the bathrooms seem like they could use a refresh.

When not enjoying the hotel and your room, head out to explore the city on foot. ICON is within walking distance of sites like the Arc de Triomf, Barcelona Cathedral, La Rambla, Mercat de la Boqueria, and Passeig de Gràcia. And since it's just north of the Gothic Quarter, you can walk to La Sagrada Família in about 25 minutes. Learn more

If you prefer renting apartments while traveling, Barcelona has a unique family option right in the heart of the city. You'll find Midtown Apartments in the Eixample neighborhood, in a building that exemplifies the city's famed architecture and once housed some of the most elite families in the city.
