Elia Fatma Boutique Hotel, Chania

Standard
An Ottoman spin has been put on these six rooms in the heart of Old Town Chania.

Overview

An old mansion is now a modern day hotel in the Elia Fatma in the Jewish quarter of Chania’s Old Town. This adult only space has six rooms, which feature a mix of thick stone walls, original arches, and vibrant painted walls. Chania’s waterfront harbor is just a few blocks away, while Old Town’s streets are just outside the hotel doors. Couples, families, and groups of friends may enjoy the feeling of privacy in these rooms that all face the city, while folks with mobility issues are advised to book elsewhere since this hotel doesn’t have an elevator.

Pros
  • If you like bold or vibrant colors, you’ll enjoy these distinctly colorful rooms.
  • There is a large breakfast area, where folks can relax and enjoy a traditional Cretan breakfast or some coffee.
  • A peaceful rooftop area is a nice place to relax and enjoy the feeling of Old Town Chania privately, as it's situated between two taller buildings.
Cons
  • There’s no elevator, so folks with mobility issues will have trouble here. Guests can get help from a porter to carry their bags up the stairs.
  • The design and feeling of the rooms can feel a bit heavy, so consider booking a room with a balcony to get some more natural light in.

Authenticity

The Elia Fatma speaks more to the Ottoman history of Chania than to its Venetian one. The rooms feature colorful paint jobs, original stone arches and walls, and tiled floors that call to mind Chania’s Ottoman past, which began in 1645 with the Turkish invasion of the city. Guests can feel elements of that history in the hotel, which used to be a home, and they can feel it even more when they step outside right into the heart of Chania’s Jewish Quarter, on whose border the hotel sits.

Location

The hotel is in the middle of Chania’s Old Town, on the border that marks the small Jewish quarter, where the city’s Jewish population once lived. The historic harbor is less than a five-minute walk and the lighthouse entrance is 15 minutes away. Folks with cars can park at the nearby Talos Square, which is a five-minute walk. The Elia Fatma is a proper Old Town hotel, as there aren’t sea or harbor views here, and it’s a good option for those who want easy access to Chania’s most popular sites.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The six rooms differ in size, balcony, and color scheme. This adults only hotel welcomes guests 16 and up, so families with teenage kids or groups of friends can book a connecting room option. Guzel or the one-bedroom suite has a bathtub for those who want to relax and a small outside space that looks onto an inner courtyard.

Yasemin or the maisonette is the largest room, which is a split-level space with a loft-style bed that has steps to get up to it. Note that this room does not have a balcony and none of the rooms have particularly great views, if they have one at all.
