Igloo Beach Lodge has a distinct look and vibe that’s trendy and a bit hipster, but it still meshes with the Costa Rican environment. Each eco-friendly igloo is covered in green vegetation to help the units blend in with nature. 

Location

Igloo Beach Lodge is just a short path away from public access to Playa Espadilla, where the hotel has its own area. The property is also within walking distance to the national park, nearby beaches, and several cafes and restaurants. Guests often walk along the beach to and from the hotel rather than navigate the busy roadway.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The decor is simple and minimalist but warm with wooden furniture and accents. Because of the distinct igloo shape and size, rooms and bathrooms are pretty small without much storage space. Igloos offer either one double bed or two double beds, and all have private bathrooms and a small outdoor sitting area. All rooms have smart TVs, minifridges, air conditioning, and digital home features. For families or groups larger than two, the best option will be to book two separate rooms to ensure enough space for everyone.

Other Highlights

The onsite restaurant and bar, Casa Planta, feature an award-winning chef known for his plant-based dishes, so vegetarians and vegans can eat here without worry. You can enjoy meals in the open-air dining area, by the pool, or even down at the beach. The outdoor pool is nice but small, surrounded by igloos and a few loungers and umbrellas. The hotel often features entertainers and live music on Fridays and Saturdays, so don’t expect a quiet and relaxing atmosphere on the weekends.

Sustainability

The igloos are made from a mold and left to harden and dry, creating a solid shape that requires 50% less energy to heat and cool. The onsite restaurant serves some meat dishes but focuses primarily on plant-based cuisine.
