Oniro City, Athens

5.0 (5 reviews) · Comfort
The renovated Neo-Classical building of the Oniro City offers some comfortable room options in Kolonaki.

Overview

The Oniro City is in a Neo-classical building that fits right into the surrounding area of Kolonaki. This 18-room hotel opened in 2019 and offers a mix of standard rooms and suites for differing group sizes. The lobby smells great, which gives a spa-like feel when you first walk in. While some of the rooms feel a bit dark, the suites are good options for those looking for some bright light and open space.

Pros
  • The Neo-classical façade is stunning with its marble and iron-wrought Greek key design framing the doorway.
  • The suites are bright and open and can be a great option for travelers looking to stay in a central location that’s not right in the middle of busy tourist sites.
  • As of writing, the bathrooms include skincare products from the stellar Greek brand Apivita, which can make guests feel luxurious and cared for.
Cons
  • Some of the standard rooms feel a bit dark, as they don’t have windows, so those looking for more natural light are better off booking a suite or a room with a balcony.
  • The overall aesthetic of the hotel in its common spaces and some of the rooms feels dark and at odds with the Greek or Mediterranean light, but this can be mitigated by exploring the city or booking a room that has natural light.

Authenticity

The Oniro City boutique hotel is situated in a Neo-classical building, which is clear when you see its marble and iron-wrought exterior. The hotel includes Greek motifs and artwork throughout to help underscore its location in Athens. The surrounding neighborhood of Kolonaki is a residential one filled with locals, which adds an air of authenticity. You’re not far from the Acropolis or other sites, but you’re in the mix enough to feel like a true Greek here.

Location

Oniro City is in the middle of Kolonaki, nestled between the restaurant and shop-lined streets of Solonos and Skoufa. The hotel is about a 10-minute walk to the closest metro stations of Panepistimio and Syntagma, while those looking to get their steps in can walk to Monastiraki in 20 minutes and the Acropolis in 25. If you’re looking to stay local, trek up to Lycabettus Hill, which is just seven minutes away, or head to the National Garden 10 minutes away and try to spot some of the turtles and peacocks there.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The 18 rooms of this boutique hotel range from standard to larger suites, which are good options for families, groups of travelers, or just those looking for a bit more space. Some of the standard rooms have interesting layouts, as they have bathrooms that feel as big as the room itself. However, the standard rooms do not include windows, so if you prefer to have natural light, consider booking a suite or a room with a balcony.

The hotel was located in a quiet part of Athens, yet close enough to Plaka, the oldest and fashionable in Athens. The beds were extremely comfortable as was the bedding. The bathroom was modern and the shower great.
They offered a breakfast in their dining room that was included. Cheeses and hams to start, with croissants and other savory breads, freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee and then they gave you a menu for breakfast! So much food and very delicious.

Fabulous hotel, walking distance to old town in Plaka and the Acropolis. While in an old building, hd interior of the hotel was completely redone with a fabulous shower, bed and pillow.
We had a great dinner at Frankie, 1/2 block away.
