this is a true bike ride. even with an e- bike- be prepared to work, navigate some interesting terrain and gates- and have the time of your life. it's a long trip with lots of hills, traffic and animals. not for the faint of heart. a great ride!

This trip was so special and well planned, thanks to Marisa and her team at Across Portugal. The trip was seamless, from our airport transfer patiently waiting for us to get through passport control, to each walking tour arriving early and spending time with us, to our wonderful drivers in Lisbon and Porto, who not only drove us, but were amazing tour guides on the way to our destination. The level of service was wonderful and felt so personal.

We did not encounter any issues on our trip, but when we had questions, Marisa and her team were quick to respond.

We cannot recommend Across Portugal enough! We hope to return someday, and when we do, we will definitely work with them again!

Really nice hotel, however the front desk staff were not very friendly compared to our other accommodations. Beautiful views of the ocean and a nice pool, however, you do have to walk near a busy road to get to most of the restaurants and the beach in Cascais.

We spent two dreamy weeks in Portugal and are thrilled with our kimkim experience! Marisa, our travel specialist, listened closely to our interests and crafted a base itinerary, which we finalized after a helpful phone call to ask questions and get her advice. Leading up to the trip, she was communicative and proactive, and we knew we were in good hands. Once in the country, we had phenomenal knowledgeable, friendly, and humorous guides who were proud to share their culture with us. Ricardo in Porto, the Douro Valley, and our driver from Porto to Lisbon was like having an old friend take you around their hometown. Andre delivered a very interesting walking tour in Porto, showing us hidden gems and sharing suggestions for things to see and do when we had time on our own. Lastly, Claudia in Lisbon helped us get our bearings, told us jokes, and answered our many questions! In the early afternoon each day, we received a Whatsapp message from Marisa checking in and explaining what to expect for the following day so we always felt prepared for each activity. We would absolutely recommend kimkim for your next adventure.

We lucked out with a beautiful day and had a marvelous time in the Douro Valley - from the picturesque drive, relaxing boat trip, and delicious lunch and winery tour at Quinta da Pacheca, it was a travel day we will remember for years to come. Ricardo was a wonderful driver who shared interesting facts along the way, and he felt like an old friend by the time he dropped us at our hotel in the evening. Guide Joao in Evora was amazing. He had lots of good information and we learned alot about the history of the city. We took a tour of a wine estate that was also superior. The guide there drove us around the estate, telling in detail about cork production and olive oil production, showing us the animals on the estate and capping the visit off with a wine tasting that was truly one of the nicest wine tasting I've ever participated in. We were seated outside with a gorgeous view, tasted numerous wines and had delicious cheeses to sample We also had a walnut tasting as the nuts are also raised in the vineyard.
OUr guide in Belem was named Rui. He had a vast store of knowledge of not only the monument, Belem tower and the Monastery but also the history of portugal and its role in Europe's wars.
Upon the advice of Coraima we drove through Arrabida Park on our way to Lisbon. The views were breathtaking. Well worth the extra time it took.
Finally our food tour was fun and educational. Our guide (can't remember her name) was great at explaining the food but also the history of the neighborhoods we were walking through.

The interaction between our local guide and the guide inside the Pena Palace was awkward. They had just changed the "rules" and weren't allowing the local guides to conduct the tour inside. There was obvious resentment about the change and it was a bit uncomfortable. Otherwise our guide tried very hard to accommodate us and show us everything we wanted to see.

Decided to go to Portugal with about a month's notice. João listened to my rambling because I was unsure about anything other than when we would arrive and depart Portugal. João patiently adjusted the plans as I added people, removed people, added requests, and changed my mind. Once our group finally arrived, we really appreciated João's daily report on what to expect and the details for the following day. João arranged for Richardo to drive us from Lisbon to Porto and around, and back to Lisbon. Ricardo was a wonderful driver and guide over the few days we spent with him. Ricardo was so kind and made many wonderful suggestions. We also spent time with Carlos as we toured from Lisbon to Sintra to Oeiras. My husband, who always sits in the front passenger seat, really enjoyed the discussion and the perspective on Portugal's history and current events. Carlos made food recommendations that were spot on. We also spent most of one day on a walking tour with Claudia. We loved learning about a day in the life of the average Portuguese living in the capital city, surrounded by so much history and beautiful structures. We laughed so much with Claudia as her sense of humor aligned perfectly with ours. Everyone with Kimkim proudly shared their beloved hometowns and country with our group, making our time in Portugal feel like more than just a spur-of-the-moment getaway. I highly recommend and trust Kimkim to make all of our trip arrangements in the future, including when we, one day, return to Portugal.

We had an amazing time in Lisbon/Ponta Delgada even though the weather was not at its best.
Key people who made this possible are Rui (our guide in Lisbon) and Leandro and Pedro (our guides in Ponta Delgada).
Diana and team did a great job with coordination as we had multiple changes due to delayed/cancelled flights and some trip cancellations. Thank you again!!

Really overall an amazing 2 week trip with many wonderful experiences. The knowledge and support from the Kimkim team was impeccable and took so much stress away from travel. The Kim team seemed to think of just about everything.

Our trip seemed to ratchet up at every stop. We began in Lisbon to get settle and oriented. The balance of tour and free time was important. Great guides.

Next by train Coimbra added more about history, the university and town. The trip to Aveiro was interesting and the guide superb. However, we could pass on this one and replace with a trip to Conigriba to see the Roman ruins.

Another train to Porto with enough free time to see much of the city. A fabulous guide (university professor) the next day helped us really understand the history of the area. The highlight of the trip was the next day to the Duoro valley - the driver/guide took us to a winery, maybe the best lunch we had for the entire trip on a hilltop, a ride down the Duoro river and back to another winery. Felt really special even though this was our largest group (7).

The drive to Sintra was the right choice versus a couple different trains. A whirlwind tour of three palaces the next day was good although we wish we had a more knowledgeable guide. (There are certified guides in Portugal who must study for 3 years, take tests, etc. ).

Cascais was amazing and another highlight in itself. The guide the next day was wonderful with a trip to the coast (Cabo da Roca - end of the world AKA western most point in Europe) and took us to a small local beach not far”on the tour” which may only be known by locals.

Lisbon we booked ourselves - Ivens Hotel with a wonderful restaurant attached
Coimbra - Quinta das Lagrimas - hotel needs some updating but the former Michelin star restaurant was a nice surprise
Porto - Menina Colina Guesthouse was our favorite with an amazing room and hosts. Wanted to live in for a month
Sintra Marmóris Palace with the best view of all - Sintra and the moorish castle . Very accommodating and wine and cheese (and Fado!) in the afternoon
Cascais - Pergola hotel has beautiful grounds although the room was the most basic on the trip. Breakfast was excellent although we did not dine in the restaurant - too many better choices!

In addition, while it did overlook the garden, it also overlooked the restaurant which plays music and is fairly loud until 11pm. Might have been better in a room facing the back. Also, room was on the second floor so might be tough for some climbing stairs and carrying luggage

It would be nice if the tour was adaptable to the weather, surely more tasting experiences could be done inside. The day of our tour it was freezing and rainy and we were outside for the majority of it. It also wasn’t a lot of food and my husband was still hungry at the end. Additionally, we didn’t drink alcohol and it would have been nice if the guide didn’t announce it to the group in an embarrassing way at every single stop.

We loved everything about our recent trip to Portugal, which included stops in Lisbon, Porto, and Coimbra. KimKim was great, and Emily crafted an amazing trip for our family's vacation. The private guided food tour in Porto, the private guided e-bike tour in Porto along the river until it meets the sea, the private guided walk in the Alfama district of Lisbon, the private guided day trip to Fatima and Nazare, the private food tour of Lisbon, and the private guided tour of Sintra and nearby attractions were highlights of the trip -- everything was amazing! It must be said that the boutique hotels chosen for us were universally amazing, and in awesome locations! I loved how they use local brands and small hotels -- places we'd never know about if we were to do this on our own. And the private car transfers that KimKim arranged were universally perfect. E-Bike Tour in Lagos - Fun Tour to Luz

We were two women and the only cyclists that day. One of us an experienced cyclist and the other a beginner. She was very nervous and it was a challenging ride for her… even on an e bike. I think the ride leader could have been more attentive to her abilities and needs. But this was a great way to see the area in the first couple days of our trip to the Algarve.

We have rarely used tour guides, though we travel frequently. And we'd never used an online tool like Kim Kim before. It really was a great combo of tech (KimKimm) +people (Across Portugal). The trip was well planned, fit our criteria, gave us the freedom to explore while securing must-see and do activities. From the jump, Joao at Across Portugal worked with us to shape our itinerary and communicated regularly. But all that really was just the start. Joao's team at Across Portugal reached out to us via Whatsapp twice a day and, for example, linking us to the tickets we'd need for our trip to Sintra so they were handy on our phones. It felt very much like we had friends in-country to the point that somewhere along the way we started sending the team photos through Whatsapp. Perhaps though, best of all, when our flights got canceled out of Porto due to weather in Amsterdam, Joao supported us by securing transportation to and a hotel in Lisbon. All that service, plus a tech platform that was intuitive and delivered clear itineraries. So ... do see Portugal. It's an amazing place full of kind people, great food and signature moments (we'll certainly remember many as life-long travel highlights) ... And when you do, use Across Portugal and Kim Kim.

João and his team planned the perfect trip for us through KimKim. We came to him with some ideas of things we wanted to do and see in Portugal, explained to him the family dynamics of the trip and we would need accommodations and activities for three generations of our family. And finally, we complicated everything by scheduling this vacation over the Christmas holidays, knowing that some locations might be closed for the holiday as well, but those dates worked best for us, as that was when the kids were out of school.

João did an awesome job of planning everything for us. The hotels were wonderful. He managed to schedule all the activities that we asked to see (Sintra, Coimbra, Fatima, etc) and also planned a bunch of others for us that were perfect can’t miss events in Portugal that we hadn’t thought of ourselves – such as a Fado dinner. He kept us busy every day, which is just what we wanted, and all three generations in the family had an incredible time. All our drivers were great, but Ricardo and Pepe were really incredible. Super patient with the kids and answered every question from the adults as well as pointing out all kinds of interesting details along the way. I liked that we had the same driver for an entire region, and not just a different random person every day – we really got to know our drivers better, and they got to know us.

This was the second trip to Portugal Coraima helped us plan. She spent a lot of time on the first trip helping me travel with my 80 year old father who has physical limitations. The second trip was effortless because she knew us, incorporated feedback and adjusted the logistics on our return trip to engage two 20-something sons. Excellent tour guide- went out of his way to pick us up at hotel given we had a senior traveler, brought blankets for the cold, gave a tour of the tram 28 line but also took small detours to show us the neighborhoods, informative discussion sharing history and answering questions.

Our trip to Lisbon, Portugal, as arranged by Anita of Kim Kim travels, was excellent and we enjoyed ourselves immensely due to all the advanced planning and guidance we received.

Some highlights included:

On our first day in Lisbon, we had a lovely stroll with our guide Zee who was personable and walked us around the winding streets of the Alfama neighborhood. He was eager to answer any questions and whet our appetites with the number one place for Pastéis de Belém. Yum.

The rest of our trip was as equally successful. Our next day’s outing to Sintra was on a rainy day. Still, our thoughtful and, again, personable guide Nuno drove without hesitation to our various planned itinerary spots. He guided us effortlessly as we navigated the sites we visited — including a modest and tasty lunch place. During our first morning stop in Belem he wisely recommended we eat our pastry warm. Nuno was a pleasure to meet and we appreciated his insights into Portugal’s history and culture.

We also enjoyed two days with Luis who wowed us with his perspective and nimble mind. Quick to anticipate our needs, and answer any questions, he accompanied us on two days travel that included a marvelous winery called Mainova. We really enjoyed the hospitality there. Our charcuterie and wine snack truly satisfied after a morning of site seeing the property and learning about the process of wine making. Luis took our tired but satiated minds back to Lisbon. We couldn’t have been more thankful for his assistance in introducing us to the world surrounding this marvelous city, which included everything from the wind swept peninsula of Arrábida Park to the beauty of Évora’s cathedral, as well as, the spectral Chapel of Bones.

We had a wonderful journey through central Portugal. Our guide, Joao was helpful and personable. He managed to massage our available days into an interesting and active, yet relaxing itinerary. His hotel choices and transportation facilitation really made the trip easy. This hotel was very comfortable and quiet. We had an interior room looking out on a plain courtyard. We were only there for a night because it was our last night and we had to transfer to the airport early so we missed breakfast, but the staff provided a nice breakfast in a bag to go. I loved this neighborhood, and would definitely stay here again.

The location of this hotel is outstanding. There were two issues, one was a noise problem due to the city's scheduling of the holiday festivities around the hotel, I talked to the owner about it and he was very apologetic but there was nothing he could have done to fix it. The other issue was the construction going on in the lobby but it did not really inconvenience us. The breakfast buffet was fine, the room was well appointed and had nice views.

Our travel advisor Joao selected, scheduled and provided transportation to the winery.

Tiago was super helpful in the planning and then he was our driver. Although some things were a little on the expensive side, the quality was worth the expense. The weather was quite bad, and Tiago improvised well for us. In addition, I ended up with a mobility issue, so Tiago was helpful with that. The best thing Tiago did for us was to suggest visiting the national stud farm. One of my best experiences! He also showed us interesting local sites. The most memorable, was to a country lane in the pouring rain to see a stonehenge-like burial monument. We had no idea what he was going to show us, so it was very mysterious and exciting! Tiago made up for our poor experience with Alvaro and our Peru trip.
