Pros
  • Folks looking to relax can book one of the four rooms with a hot tub.
  • The hotel’s central location in the heart of Old Town makes it perfect for anyone wanting to explore Chania easily.
  • There is a parking area out front, which is a first come, first serve lot, so it can fill up quickly but guests can also find parking in a lot or on streets nearby.
  • All of the rooms have balconies with the exception of two attic style ones, which offer something intriguing with their slanted roofs and skylights.
Cons
  • This is not a suitable place for folks with mobility needs, as there’s no elevator and there are steps to get to the entrance.
  • The hotel doesn’t have a typical reception or eating area, but folks can take their meals or relax in the lounge of the Elia Bettolo a few blocks away.
  • The design approach mixes darker natural elements like brick and stone, which may not appeal to those looking for the Greek light but others may enjoy it.

Authenticity

The Elia Kentron opened in 2016 and as its name indicates, its central location sets it apart. The rooms have more traditional Chania style features like stone and brick walls or wooden beam ceilings, but its location next to Chania’s famous “Stivanadika” street of leather makers adds that element of authenticity to it. Step outside and immediately immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and smells of this well-known area of Chania where people have been practicing their craft for generations.

Location

The Elia Kentron is right between the waterfront and the edge of Old Town, where it becomes the new city. Walk to the start of the Lighthouse path in just 10 minutes or head in the other direction to see historic sites like the Etz Hayimm Synagogue and Firka Venetian Fortress in the same amount of time. Reach Nea Chora beach in about 20 minutes on foot or five by car or spend part of a day at the Archaeological Museum in Halepa, which you can walk to in 25 minutes or drive to in less than 10.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The Elia Kentron has eight rooms in total and four of them have hot tubs, which are usually the preferred choices for couples. The rooms are big with a simple style, as their design elements include stone or brick walls, wooden ceiling beams, and soothing wooden headboards and furniture. All of the rooms here have balconies except for two attic style ones, which instead have slanted ceilings and offer something a bit different from your typical Greek island hotel room.
