Hotel Catalonia Reina Victoria, Ronda

Beautiful villa hotel with an outdoor pool and private park with walking paths and incredible valley views

Overview

This Victorian-style villa constructed in 1906 was once the home of a German poet. Today, Hotel Catalonia Reina Victoria Wellness & Spa offers some of the best views in the city along with beautiful rooms. You can spend your time relaxing at the outdoor pool and hot tub, on the terrace overlooking El Tajo Gorge and its valley, or by wandering the hotel's private park with shaded walking paths. Enjoy all your meals with amazing views and pamper yourself at the spa.

Pros
  • This hotel looks and functions more like a villa or resort, with a location that feels away from the busy city center while still walkable to all the main sites.
  • In 10 minutes or less, you can easily walk to the Mirador de Ronda, the 19th-century Alameda del Tajo park (featuring the town's local cat population), and Puente Nuevo.
  • The onsite spa offers relaxing experiences like hydrotherapy pools, cold showers (including an ice-bucket shower), a sauna, and various treatment options.
  • Enjoy the property's incredible panoramic terrace, which seems to have the best views in the city, next to the outdoor pool area with a hot tub, sun loungers, and beautiful gardens with walking trails.
  • The views never seem to get old, especially at the onsite restaurant (serving Andalusian and Mediterranean food) with a beautiful dining room, a wall of windows, and an outdoor patio.
  • You can also relax in one of the plushy lounges and enjoy breakfast in the bar's dining area, on the terrace, or in your room (which is an excellent idea if you snag one with a private patio).
  • Rooms are idyllic—some with private terraces and others that work well for families providing two single beds and one double bed.
Cons
  • All the rooms feel refined, but the standard category is a little dark, with darker decor and without much natural light.
  • Though elegant for Ronda, you might find the room decor a tad outdated compared to other 4-star properties in Spanish cities.

Authenticity

The former home of German poet Rainer Maria Rilke, Catalonia Reina Victoria Wellness & Spa was built in 1906 in Victorian-style. The property has some of the most amazing views of El Tajo Gorge, all private for the hotel guests to enjoy.

Location

The hotel sits atop the Tajo Gorge, tucked away on the northern end of Ronda's historic center. Though not as central as other hotels in the city, you'll still be within walking distance of all the sites, shops, and restaurants. For example, a stroll to the Puente Nuevo only takes 10 minutes, and you'll pass places like Alameda del Tajo park, Mirador de Ronda, and the Bullring of the Royal Cavalry of Ronda along the way.

Rooms & Bathrooms

All the rooms and bathrooms are clean, modern, and tasteful, though we recommend choosing a superior room or suite. These units have larger windows to let in more light and offer views of the Tajo Gorge. To truly enjoy the hotel's location, consider one of the rooms with a private terrace facing the gorge and valley, where you can enjoy breakfast in the mornings or a glass of local wine at sunset.

Other Highlights

Catalonia Reina Victoria Wellness & Spa feels like a hideaway with a private park and gardens, complete with walking trails along the El Tajo Gorge. You'll also find an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub with valley views, plus an indoor spa with a sauna and hydrotherapy. The onsite bar serves a delicious breakfast paired perfectly with the hotel's incredible views, whereas the restaurant offers other meals and beautiful patio dining. Onsite parking is available, though it can't accommodate all guests, so make sure you book ahead if you have a car.
