Pros

  • The hotel is in the historic Jewish Quarter on Calle Granada, a charming street just a few minutes from sites like the Cathedral, Alcazaba, and the Picasso Museum.
  • The on-site restaurant Balausta is run by a Michelin-star chef known for using avant-garde techniques to elevate traditional cuisine.
  • The restaurant's dining area occupies the palace's traditional Andalusian courtyard with columns, arched entryways, exposed brick, and vintage lighting.
  • A speakeasy-style bar is a stylish spot for cocktails.

Cons

  • Some common spaces, such as the bar and the lounge areas, are starting to show wear and tear.
  • The standard rooms are a bit plain.
  • The hotel doesn't have a pool, spa, or rooftop terrace.

Authenticity

Enjoy sleeping in an Andalusian palace from the 18th century, which maintains much of its original charm. You'll enter via a grand staircase and enjoy elements like exposed brick, stone mosaics, tile flooring, wood-beamed ceilings, and an inner courtyard with columns, archways, and vintage lighting.

Location

This historic hotel technically shares a building with an Islamic-inspired 16th-century church in the city's Jewish Quarter. You'll be just down the street from the Alcazaba, Picasso Museum, and Plaza de la Merced. As a foodie city, delicious eateries and bars surround the hotel. You can also easily walk through the historic center to sites like the Cathedral, Mercado Central, and Málaga Park.

Rooms & Bathrooms

There are 10 room categories at Palacio Solecio, including suites and family rooms. The standard rooms feel slightly plain, so we recommend the deluxe category or higher. All are warm and welcoming, with bright, modern bathrooms, and some include four-poster beds, Juliet balconies, soaking tubs, and seating areas. The tower room has a private outdoor terrace with perfect views of the Cathedral, and the family rooms are extra spacious with two separate rooms.

Amenities

Palacio Solecio has no pool or spa, but the hotel's gym is open 24/7. Several rooms are equipped to accommodate travelers with limited mobility. The hotel also has elevators and wide pathways appropriate for wheelchair users.

Family-Friendliness

There are no dedicated kids' amenities, but Palacio Solecio is a family-friendly hotel, and kids up to age 11 stay for free. Families might opt for the Palacio Family Room or the Solecio Family Room, which can accommodate four to five travelers. The hotel is adult-oriented, but it's stroller-friendly.

Other Highlights

Breakfast is served both buffet-style and a la carte. The on-site restaurant features a creative menu by Michelin-star chef José Carlos García, who adds a modern twist to Málaga favorites and international-inspired dishes. The dining space is located in the palace's traditional courtyard. Beer, cocktails, and wine are served in the speakeasy-style Balausta Bar.
