Paradise Hot Springs Thermal Water Resort, Arenal/La Fortuna

Kimkim team favorite · 4.5 (2 reviews) · Standard
Budget resort with excellent hot spring pools, beautiful grounds, and basic amenities.

Overview

Paradise Hot Springs Thermal Water Resort is an excellent option for the budget-minded. With just 25 rooms, it's a relatively small property with clean, simple accommodations and amenities, but the highlight is the eight on-site hot spring pools (one featuring a swim-up bar). Unlike some other properties, Paradise limits the number of daily users, so the atmosphere remains relaxed and quiet. Although you may notice slight wear and tear around the pools, guests will still enjoy soaking in the springs, eating breakfast in the open-air restaurant, and relaxing in the gardens.

Pros
  • The resort combines clean, comfortable rooms and on-site hot springs, all at a reasonable price point.
  • The property is smaller than others, with just 25 rooms, so you can enjoy a quiet and relaxed environment with beautiful gardens.
  • The hotel limits the number of daily visitors to maintain the serene atmosphere at the thermal pools.
  • Those needing mobility support can use the accessible pool with a ramp.
  • Enjoy spa services for an additional fee, including facial treatments, body wraps, and massages.
Cons
  • Overall, the property just offers basic amenities (besides the hot springs).
  • Most rooms don't have views, and the resort is on a very busy road.
  • The property isn't walkable to any sights or restaurants, and a car or taxi is required for self-guided offsite explorations.

Authenticity

You'll definitely get the paradise vibes at Paradise Hot Springs Thermal Water Resort, with eight pools enveloped in jungle greenery. Some areas have glimpses of Arenal Volcano, but you're mostly just submerged in lush gardens. Enjoy relaxing in the naturally heated thermal pools while sipping on smoothies made from local fruits.

Location

The resort is on Route 142, just over 3 miles (5.3 km) from La Fortuna. So although it's close to town, it's not within walking distance. You'll also need a car if you'd like to explore the Arenal Volcano on your own or dine at an offsite restaurant. As a perk, the hot springs are right on-site, and you'll be essentially next door to Baldi Hot Springs if you'd like to enjoy other thermal pools.

Rooms & Bathrooms

Rooms are clean and inviting but lack character overall, as decor and bedding are simple, with locally built hardwood furniture and marble bathrooms. All have minifridges, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and terraces with wooden furniture. Some suites include soaking tubs, roof-top patios, and views of the volcano, and your room rate includes entrance to the hot springs and daily breakfast.

Wildlife

The busy roadside location limits wildlife viewing opportunities compared to other lodging options in Arenal. Still, travelers have spotted a variety of colorful butterflies and native birds hanging out in the canopies of the hotel's garden.

Amenities

The on-site thermal pools are the property's main attraction. You'll find eight different pools surrounded by tropical plants and trees, some with waterfalls, a swim-up bar, and/or submerged stone loungers. Although the property does give off a peaceful, serene vibe, cracks and wear and tear around the pool area are noticeable, so it seems the pools could use an update. There's a small spa and gym on-site where you can schedule a massage or get a workout in. Ramps throughout the property allow guests with limited mobility to easily get around, and one of the thermal pools includes a special ramp to make it wheelchair accessible.

Family-Friendliness

The resort is an average stay for families because while children of all ages are welcome, there's an additional fee per child, and the hotel doesn't have cribs or extra beds. However, previous travelers with kids have found that the thermal pools, especially those with waterfalls, are a big hit with children, as well as the breakfast and dinner buffets. You'll want to book one of the Luxury Rooms as it comes with two beds and has the highest occupancy limit at the resort.

Other Highlights

The resort's restaurant, Azalia, is open all day and serves a mix of Costa Rican and international dishes. One of the thermal pools is home to the Phoenix Pool Bar, where you can grab a snack or cocktail. Ficus Coffee Bar has the property's best volcano views and serves locally sourced coffee and pastries.

Fantastic hotel. The combination of the various hot spring pools, surrounding vegetation and the view of the mountains made this property really impressive. Fantastic hotel. The combination of the various hot spring pools, surrounding vegetation and the view of the mountains made this property really impressive. I think there was 7 or 8 different pools/hot tubs to enjoy. My favorite part was the view of the pasture and mountain from the coffee shop. The property feels luxurious and natural at the same time. The breakfast buffet at the restaurant was my favorite breakfast of all the hotels we stayed at. Good selection of hot breakfast food and all the fruits you could want. The rooms were modern, spacious and comfortable. Staff was friendly. Kenneth helped us schedule a taxi and make a dinner reservation on our first night.
