Introducing Italy

With unparalleled culture, art, architecture, food, and wine, Italy offers the quintessential European vacation. For travelers who haven't yet made it to Italy, it's time to see what la dolce vita is all about. And for those that have, it's time to say ancora!

When is the best time to visit?
Italy is incredible year-round, but since it's an internationally iconic place to visit, expect crowds at the premier tourist destinations from spring through fall, and during holidays when people are more likely to travel. If you have the flexibility, try and visit during the less crowded winter and early shoulder seasons. Learn more

Where should I go in Italy?
Rome, Florence, and Venice belong on every traveler's bucket list. Visitors with a little more time should also see the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Naples, Milan, the Cinque Terre, and Sicily—the list of places to visit in Italy has no end. Learn more

How many days do I need?
A week is barely enough to hit the main attractions in Italy, but it is doable. Stay for up to a month or more to truly savor the whole experience as well as the food and wine. And no matter how long you stay, you'll surely want to return for your next visit. Learn more

Getting around Italy
Trains are a great option for trips between Italy's cities, such as Florence to Rome and Milan to Venice. Driving isn't always straightforward, but it's still a great choice if you feel comfortable taking the wheel along Italy's Autostrada and curvy roads. Other options include domestic flights and ferries. Learn more

We flew into Catania and drove right up to Taormina for 3 nights, then Siracusa, Modica, Agrigento, Marsala, and finally Palermo. We booked 2 hotels on our own and Lorenza recommended and booked the rest. The day tours were terrific and high quality, and all ground transportation she arranged worked very well. There were some blips, mainly relating to the app that the agency uses call Vamoos. For example, one hotel was changed for good reasons and we weren’t aware of it, so we arrived at the wrong hotel. Lorenza thought we would look in the app, but we were working from the printed itinerary. Even with that, it was a wonderful trip, with Lorenza available on WhatsApp throughout.

Palazzo Natoli Boutique Hotel
Palermo

This is such a pretty little hotel with 24 hour reception, an amazing made-to-order breakfast, and a big suite with a full kitchen. It’s off one of the main walking streets (Via Vittorio Emanuele) so you right in the middle of the action, walking distance to everything. The room had a little balcony where you can hang out and people watch. Umbrellas in the lobby, nice touch.

This was a unique little hotel. The reception desk staff was wonderful and had great ideas for restaurants and Marsala wine tours, which we hadn’t yet set up. The apartment was huge, with tons of closet space, a mini-kitchen, an iron and ironing board, a steamer, and private patio access. It’s in walking distance from the old part of town which has cute restaurants and shops. We drove over to Florio for the wine tours as it’s tough to get a taxi in Marsala. Parking was a challenge due to street cleaning one of the nights we were staying, so we had to move our car. Breakfast was excellent.

It’s a cute and clean B&B. The room was large and comfortable, the owner provided unlimited cold water and access to the refrigerator which was great. Breakfast was good with baked goods and fresh coffee, not much protein though. The location isn’t great and parking was a challenge, although we were able to walk 20 minutes to a good restaurant. If you are just going to the Valley of the Temples, there’s no real reason to stay in Agrigento, stay outside the city.

Beginning with Lucia meeting us at the airport and escorting us to our hotel in Florence, meeting us to pickup and return our rental car and the daily checkins and reminders of what was planned for the next day. Also great service from Stella in Bologna and Beatrice in Venice. Now for the trip, wonderful accommodations in all locations. The drivers who met us or drove us on day trips were excellent along with the guides at each location. Overall, it was all very easy and relaxing as well as first class service throughout the trip.
