“We are interested in hiking for about 4 days maybe the landmannalaugar to skogafoss waterfall and staying in mountain huts. Not sure the difference between landmannalaugar and laugavegur hike?? Is it worth going all the way to skogafoss waterfall or would it be just as good or better to just go to Thorsmork then do a trip to the north side of Iceland: akureyri, godafoss etc. We can carry our own backpacks but would prefer to stay in mountain huts due to the chance of rain. We are experienced and strong hikers, we don't really need a guide but they are always very informative and nice to have We usually have done private treks but would be ok with a small group. Then we would like to spend some time driving maybe to the northern area of Iceland. Please help us make this an epic trip! We would have approx 9 days”

Laugavegur and Fimmvörðuháls Hiking
Summary of the trip planning conversation
Hi, my name is Inga and I specialize in hiking and running trips.
Regarding Landmannalaugar: the Laugavegur hike starts in Landmannalaugar and if you are planning on doing that I would suggest you have a look at the volcano trials trek
Regarding the north: it's definitely worth having a few days there. It is also possible to hike a route there called the Askja trail (4 days trek). But the area also offers very diverse options for hiking if going with a rental car around. Areas not to miss are Lake Mývatn and Jökulsárgljúfur. I can set up a day to day itinerary for the north as well if you want, including accommodation and transportation. Just let me know.
