Itinerary #1: Slovenia Highlights Road Trip

Start your Slovenian adventure in Lake Bled, a popular destination for hiking and bike riding. Sail to the island at the lake's center, spend a day exploring nearby Lake Bohinj, or even visit a local beekeeper. You can also hike through nearby Vintgar Gorge or drive to the village of Radovljica

Once you've seen everything there is to see in the area, drive across Vršič Pass—the highest mountain pass in Slovenia—into the heart of the Julian Alps and down to the Soča Valley. Enjoy a day of outdoors rafting, ziplining, canyoning, or biking in Bovec, Slovenia's adventure sports capital by the Soča River.

Then, make your way to Goriška Brda, Slovenia's wine region. Visit a winemaker, explore the area's cypress-covered hills, and spend the night at a local winery. The following day, continue through the Karst region and on to the coast. If you feel like a detour, hope over the border to Italy and visit  Miramare Castle

Spend a day in Piran, on the Adriatic Coast, and use the town as your jumping-off point to explore the Istrian countryside. Then, visit Lipica Equestrian Park—home of the graceful Lipizzan horses—and the UNESCO World Heritage Škocjan Caves on your way to Ljubljana, Slovenia's capital. Begin your trip in Ljubljana, Slovenia's capital, and spend a couple of days exploring the city. Then, head to Lake Bled, a fairytale lake in the foothills of the Julian Alps. You can climb to the castle and take a tour, or sail to the island in the center of the lake. Other options include renting a bike to explore the area or hiking in nearby Vintgar Gorge. 

Next, bike through the lush Radovna Valley up to Kranjska Gora, an alpine resort town. Spend the next few days hiking in the Julian Alps: first, you'll make your way up to Vršič Pass, the highest mountain pass in the Slovenian Alps, before heading down into the emerald depths of the Soča Valley, where you'll follow the river until you reach the town of Bovec. 

Bovec is Slovenia's outdoor sports capital. Spend a day rafting on the Soča River nearby, or opt for canyoning, zip-lining, or biking in the area. The following day, take a raft partway down the river, then continue your hike to Kobarid to visit the town's WWI museum. Then, a transfer will take you to Goriška Brda, Slovenia's wine region. Spend the afternoon relaxing and visit local winemakers.

On day ten, transfer from Goriška Brda to Piran, a charming Venetian town on Adriatic Coast. Spend the day exploring the city, visit the nearby salt pans, or get a luxury treatment at one of the spas Piran is famous for before returning to Ljubljana the following morning for your flight home. Itinerary #3: Road Trip Through Slovenia & Croatia

Combine the best of Slovenia and Croatia on this road trip. From Ljubljana, set off to Lake Bled, the Soča Valley and the cypress-covered hills of Goriška Brda. Then, cross into Croatia to explore the Istrian Peninsula and sail the Adriatic Sea.

Start your trip in Ljubljana, Slovenia's capital, and explore the city before picking up your rental car and continuing to Lake Bled. Lake Bled is the perfect place to spend a few days in the foothills of the Julian Alps and visit the area. Check out the island at the center of the lake, climb up to Bled Castle, and hike in nearby Vintgar Gorge.

Then, spend a day at neighboring Lake Bohinj before driving to Bovec, Slovenia's adventure sports capital, located in the heart of the Soča Valley. From there you can go rafting on the emerald waters of the Soča River, hike through the surrounding beech-tree forests, or bike on some of the area's many trails. 

Next, drive from Bovec to Goriška Brda, also known as the "Slovenian Tuscany." This is the heart of the country's wine region, filled with picturesque villages, tiny churches, and cypress trees. Sample some local food and taste regional wine, before spending the night in private rooms in a local winery.

Finally, visit the UNESCO-protected Škocjan Caves on your way to Rovinj, across the border in Croatia. Rovinj is a great jumping-off point to explore the Istrian Peninsula. Spend a day sailing on the Adriatic with a local skipper, then head inland for some culinary adventures.
