Itinerary #1: Self-Driving Highlights of Slovenia

This six-day road trip includes all of the highlights of Slovenia, from the charming streets of Ljubljana to the green shores of Lake Bled to the vineyard-covered hills of Goriška Brda and more on this self-guided tour that includes the mountains, the coast, and plenty of things in between.

Start your road trip with a day in Ljubljana. Stroll along the Ljubljanica River and make sure to check out architect Jože Plečnik's work around the city, including the National Library, Central Market, and Triple Bridge. Early the next morning, hop into your rental car and drive to the peaceful shores of Lake Bled. From there you'll be able to choose between several short hikes or visit nearby Vintgar Gorge. Another option is to tour Bled Castle or sail to the island in the middle of the lake. 

Next, spend a day exploring neighboring Lake Bohinj and enjoying its pretty waterfront views. If you want more of a challenge, you can also choose to go rock climbing nearby. In the evening, consider splurging on a royal dinner with a spectacular view at Bled Castle. 

On day four, drive across the Vršič Pass and through the central Julian Alps until you reach the mountain town of Bovec. Make sure to grab a craft beer at one of the town's microbreweries. 

After breakfast, the following day, hop back into your rental car and drive along the Soča River. You'll head south to Goriška Brda, Slovenia's wine country, through rolling hills covered in vineyards. In the afternoon, continue on to the Adriatic Coast until you reach Piran, where you can stroll through the city's narrow streets and sample fresh seafood. Learn more

Itinerary #2: Hut-to-Hut Hiking in the Slovenian Alps

This six-day hiking trip through the Slovenian Alps is perfect for avid outdoorsmen who want to explore Slovenia's beautiful mountain scenery. Sleep in cozy mountain huts, sail to the island in the middle of Lake Bled, explore the Valley of the Seven Lakes, and sample lots of traditional Slovenian cuisine on this alpine adventure.

Once you land, spend a day exploring Ljubljana and resting after your long flight before beginning your hiking trip early the next morning. Explore the area around Lake Bled and nearby Lake Bohinj. Hike through the surrounding hills, tour Bled Castle, visit nearby Vintgar Gorge or sail to the island at the center of the lake. 

Next, set out for your trek through Triglav National Park. You'll hike through the Julian Alps until you reach a cozy mountain hut below Mount Triglav, Slovenia's highest mountain. Settle in for the afternoon, or go on an extra one-hour hike to a nearby peak for some stunning views. 

Day four is the toughest hiking day. Follow the trail through beautiful alpine scenery and make your way down to the Valley of the Seven Lakes. Spend the night in a hut near one of the lakes. Then, set out early the following morning for your last full day of hiking through peaceful pastures and across rolling hills. End your day at Lake Bohinj with a refreshing swim.

The following morning, go for a series of shorter hikes in the Soča Valley to see its crystal-clear rivers, before returning to Ljubljana for your flight home. Learn more

Itinerary #3: Slovenia Cycling Trip - Alps to the Adriatic 

Cycle your way through Slovenia's countryside on this six-day bike tour that crisscrosses the country, from the Alps to the Adriatic. Pop over to Italy to visit Laghi di Fusine, bike through the mountains around Lake Bled, cycle across the rolling hills of Goriška Brda—Slovenia's wine region—and along the shores of the Adriatic Sea on this active, outdoorsy itinerary.

Start your tour of Slovenia with a day exploring Ljubljana, the capital, before hopping on your bike the following day and heading across the border to Italy's Laghi di Fusine, where the adventure begins. Ride down back roads and clearly-marked bike trails all the way to Lake Bled, where you'll spend the night. 

The following day, a shuttle will transfer you to Pokljuka Plateau. From there, bike to the shores of Lake Bohinj and then on to Bohinjska Bistrica. Catch a train to the west side of the Julian Alps, then cycle along the Soča River to Kobarid and stop there for the night. 

On day four, take another shuttle up to the Kolovrat ridge, on the border between Slovenia and Italy. Cycle to the vineyard-covered hills of Goriška Brda, Slovenia's wine country, and make sure to stop for some wine tasting. The next morning, transfer to the Adriatic Coast and cycle across Slovenian Istria until you reach Piran, the last stop on your cycling tour. Sample some fresh seafood and treat yourself to a nice meal to celebrate the end of your adventure. Finally, drive back to Ljubljana for your flight home the following day. Learn more

Once you land, transfer to Lake Bled to start your trip on the shores of Slovenia's most famous lake. The following morning, a driver will take you to the northwest corner of Slovenia to start your hike in Triglav National Park. You'll see stunning alpine scenery and sleep in a cozy mountain hut, before ascending to Vršič Pass in the morning.

From there, you'll walk downhill into the Soča Valley, following the emerald waters of the Soča River until you reach Trenta, your destination for the night. Spend the following day hiking and biking in the Soča Valley until you reach Bovec, a town known for its white water rafting and adrenaline-fueled outdoor sports options. 

Next, go white water river rafting near Bovec in the morning. In the afternoon, a transfer will take you back to Ljubljana, where you can explore the city on your own or join a guided walking tour.
