“We are 2 Canadian women in our early/mid 60s, arriving in early May. We're in good health and interested in maximizing our ability to see the diverse geography. We're okay with a reasonable amount of driving and with opportunities to get out and walk around and take side tours as appropriate. Icelandic horses, puffins, whales, waterfalls, geysers, hot springs, geothermal pools. Interested in the stories/history that go with the landscapes/places & reading ahead of time. The 10-day/9-night 'Around Iceland' tour looks good but first day doesn't quite work because of our different arrival times. Looking forward to local cuisine & some "unique sleeps" to quote Lonely Planet. Basic accommodation is fine, as long as clean and comfortable. We're really, really excited to be going to Iceland, and are quite open to suggestion. Would like worry-free trip that allows us to experience and be respectful of the people, history and geography of Iceland.

Yes to self-drive tour, and I think what you suggest would be fine - we trust your judgment on what we can fit into our time in Iceland. We fly out on May 10, so, where would we spend our last night?
You last night will be in Snæfellsnes Peninsula. You have enough time to go for some little sight seeing before you end your journey in Keflavík airport. The described on in the itinerary the link leads to covers a lot of sight seeing in Borgarfjörður fjord. I'd maybe recommend you to drive more straight to the airport. With some shorter stops. Being at the airport at 14:30 the latest. You can drop off your vehicle there if you like.
You also have time to go whale watching from Akureyri town. Would you like to add that to your tour ?
OK, thanks, I'll take a look, check with my travel partner and get back to you by tomorrow.
We would like to add the whale watching from Akureyri town. We will not include the Blue Lagoon for now.
I'll add the whale watching to the price. If you want to go to the Blue Lagoon in the end, I recommend you making the reservation through me as soon as possible. They tend to be fully booked pretty quickly.
I think you should rather visit my personal favorite; Mývatn Nature baths. See their website here: https://www.myvatnnaturebaths.is/ - You could drop by there when you are up north on day 5.
Also there is the geothermal nature pool Secret Lagoon, see their website: http://secretlagoon.is/ - That you can visit after your first long day before going to your accommodation. I recommend booking that also in advance.
