Introducing Morocco

Morocco is a vast country, extending from its Mediterranean shores in the north to the desert wonderland of the Sahara in the south. Spend an afternoon sipping tea on a Marrakech rooftop, take a camel ride through the desert, or hike in the snow-topped High Atlas mountains; whatever you choose, you'll love experiencing everything Morocco has to offer.

Where should I go in Morocco?
From the hustle and bustle of Marrakech and Fes to photogenic Chefchaouen and the dunes of the Sahara Desert, Morocco has an incredibly diverse blend of geography, climate, and culture. Each region has its own unique array of activities for travelers to choose from, as well as specific weather patterns to be aware of. Learn more

When is the best time to visit?
Morocco is a year-round destination, though each of its regions has an ideal time to go. Tangier in northern Morocco, for example, has a pleasant Mediterranean climate year-round, while travelers interested in experiencing the Sahara will want to stick to a trip in Spring or Fall to avoid extreme temperatures. Learn more

Things to Do in Morocco

Morocco is full of opportunities for both adventure and relaxation. Take a kitesurfing lesson on the Atlantic Coast, go mountain biking in the High Atlas mountains, or spend a day shopping for rugs and antiques in the fantastic markets of Marrakech. Learn more

How many days do I need in Morocco?
7-10 days is a solid amount of time to explore Morocco's and Imperial cities at a moderate pace. With 2 weeks you can spend time hiking in the Atlas Mountains or explore the coast. With under 1 week, it's best to focus your time: explore Casablanca, Chefchaouen, and Fes in the north, or discover Berber traditions in Marrakech & the Sahara desert. Learn more

Getting around Morocco
Private driver-guides are the best way to travel around Morocco, offering travelers both flexibility and peace of mind. Trains and buses connect the larger cities such as Casablanca, Fes, and Marrakech, while the desert area, Atlas mountains, and coastal towns are best accessed as part of a private tour or day trips. This really was an amazing trip for us and I will absolutely use Kim Kim again. Having the whole tripped planned ahead of time with multiple Riads, private tours, private driver - Zaid who was so awesome, really made all the difference.

We flew into Marrakesh and spent a day shopping through the Medina. The next day we made our way to Ait Ben Hadood for a private tour and stayed in another Riad - this one was Dar Rihana Dades which uses radiator heating. It was very cold and service was awful here. You have to pay extra for water and alcohol, which is fine, but no one said anything until after.

We then made our way to Merzouga where we stayed for 2 nights - camel trekking, sandboarding and a private ATV tour on the dunes. However, our guide for this was a young 20-something who seemed annoyed and bored. The glamping site was fine. Bathrooms in the tent. They don't turn on the a/c or heat until after 10:30 so depending on the temperature that could be an issue. It was cold one night for us, but after that it was fine. The team at Merzouga were super friendly and accommodating. The main guide went by "Desert Fox" and we loved him. I think we learned his name was Hakim. So friendly and helpful - made all the difference. We met a bunch of people from all over the world at the bonfire where music was played and it was just really nice and relaxing.

On our way back towards Marrakesh we stopped in Ourzazate for more shopping and exploring. The Riad here had a pool and great views, but location was not desirable at all. Our last day back in Marrakesh we had a Hammam and Spa Session. I would add a longer massage for next time.

A few things to note: never take a first offer when buying anything in Marrakesh. They start WAY high - expect to pay about a third of their starting offer. Marrakesh is fun but there are so many motorbikes that you will probably get bumped a few times. We also had a tour the same day we landed -- I wouldn't do that again as we were exhausted and cut the tour short just to get some sleep from the long flight.

The shower in Merzouga is just a handheld and doesn't have something to hang on so you can't stand under it handsfree. Not a big deal, but just an FYI.

Our driver Ziad was fantastic. Highly recommend. He's super friendly, funny, and really helped us with so many things. Singing in the car during our road trips was an unexpected bonus.

The communication at the beginning was a little off. We didn't know who/when/where we were supposed to be meeting people and how to get in touch with them and I kept having to call to get the information. Having that upfront would have been helpful.

Overall though, one of the best trips I have taken. Highly recommend.

It's not very traditionally moroccan. It's more modern and casino like but if that's what you're looking for it's perfect

Great modern area to walk around.

They were all very nice and attentive. The hotel is very large so many things can take longer. Check in and restaurant service because the place is so large.

They do need to do maintenance on the facility some. The one wall in the pool area is very rough and needs a lot of work.

Boumalne-Dadès

This was a top notch hotel. Really one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. They do everything at an absolutely exceptional level. The grounds are immaculate. The pictures don't do it justice. The meals are Michelin star level and the service in the restaurant is amazing. For example they serve you a many course breakfast but bring everything out so efficiently that you're able to have an amazing breakfast but get in and out of there very quickly. The pool is very nice but isn't heated yet. They're working on adding a heated pool which if they had this I don't think I'd ever want to leave.

Authenticity & Character
The gardens were absolute perfection and the room had so much character while still being very functional.
Location
It has an unbeatable view of the Monkey fingers. the view is breathtaking!
Staff
Everyone was the best I've ever experienced and it shows that the owners take so much pride in the hotel. The owners are hands on and even gave us a tour of the grounds.
Cleanliness & Comfort
The grounds and room were prefect.
La Maison Arabe Hotel
Marrakech

Very nice hotel, great food and room experience. We did try to use the pool in the afternoon and it was a bit weird with nowhere to set your clothes/towels and it felt awkward to use it since it's in the middle of the restaurant. It's almost like it's more for aesthetics than it is for use.

The trip was phenomenal. We hit all of the most amazing sites in a short amount of time and had very helpful guides throughout the way.

Highlights:
- Food tour in Marrakesh with Lehsson our guide. We thought it would be a bit repetitive after 10 days in Morocco but he took us to eat a lot of local street food which we had not had time to try before.
- Tour in Fez was also very nice with Sherif. He was both informative and very knowledgeable of the Medina being able to help guide us through the small streets.
- Chefchaeoun is absolutely gorgeous and our guide was also very nice, Abdullah.
- We absolutely loved our stay in Merzouga on the desert and wish we had had more time

We felt that at times the alotted time in the itinerary did not match with the travel time. The roads are very windy and the speed limits are very low so, one constructive feedback would be to consider a lot longer time on the road and maybe earlier pick ups especially between Casablanca > Blue City, Fez > Merzouga and Merzouga > Boulmane Dades

Morocco

The time for this was not well allocated. We arrived very late to VOlubilis, even stopping our tour early in Blue City. Once we were done with Volubilis it was late and everything was closed in Malay Idris and meknes. We only did Volubilis.

Nice walk around, however we had to start very early and the tour was even stopped 30 min before the end of the alotted time becuase we had to factor in drive to Volubilis. Here is where we though maybe it could have been better organized by the local agency.

Rabat was a definitely nice stop. We had to pay for our entrance to Chellah which was not clear in the itinerary. Which I found confusing. But other than that very nice. However, it is important ot factor in the time to drive to Chefchaoeun since we got in very late.

Hi Bianca,

Thank you so much for your review. We are very happy that you enjoyed your trip and that the guides Lehsson, Sherif, and Abdullah made it special. It is great to hear that you liked the food tour in Marrakesh, the Medina tour in Fez, Chefchaouen, and your time in the desert.

We also appreciate your feedback about travel times. You are right, some roads are winding and it can take longer to get from place to place. We will make sure to allow more time for travel and consider earlier pick-ups in future trips.

It was a pleasure planning your trip and we hope to see you again in Morocco for another great adventure.

Best Wishes,
Ali
