Contemporary eco-friendly villa with two units, a private pool, luxurious interiors, sea views, and outstanding service

Overview

Coocono Villas offers a contemporary and eco-friendly retreat on the under-the-radar Cycladic island of Tinos. Split into two self-catering units, each includes two bedrooms, living and dining areas, well-equipped kitchenettes, and sea-view terraces with a private pool or Jacuzzi. Decor and furnishings are luxurious and modern, and outdoor spaces are beautifully furnished with plenty of inviting spots to lounge, sunbathe, and enjoy panoramic Aegean vistas. Guests can stroll to Tinos Town or nearby beaches in under 10 minutes, and a homemade breakfast can be ordered each morning on the terrace.

Kimkim's Take

Pros
  • A quiet setting just south of Tinos Town puts you within a 10-minute stroll of Chora (Old Town) and Agios Fokas Beach.
  • The villa's terraces and decks offer panoramic, unobstructed sea views toward Delos and Mykonos.
  • Book the ground-floor unit for a private pool with waterfall features, or the upper-story for a large Jacuzzi.
  • Luxe bedroom details include COCO-MAT mattresses and bedding, soundproofed windows with blackout curtains, and individually-controlled air-conditioning.
  • You can self-cater in the well-equipped kitchenettes with Miele appliances, or order the generous breakfast served on your terrace.
Cons
  • The award-winning property is popular, and you'll need to book well in advance.
  • You'll be situated a little bit outside the main Old Town, and restaurants and the main beaches are a 10-minute walk.

Authenticity

The contemporary Coocono Villas was built in 2021, but its eco-friendly design fits right in among its more traditional Cycladic surroundings. The sleek interiors are by Greek designer George Efthimiou, and you'll find a touch of warmth and earthiness among the modernity in the form of sisal rugs, locally-sourced Tinian marble, and accents of hammered bronze and sustainable hardwoods. Spot local plants like olive, laurel, and lavender on the terraces, and spy subtle nods to the island's famous dovecotes and its history (King Tinos was the son of Cooconos/Kyknos, which translates as "Swan") among some of the custom decor and avian-inspired art pieces.

Location

Tinos is considered one of the Cyclades' lesser-visited treasures, located just north of busier Mykonos. Coocono Villas sits in a quiet area about a 10-minute walk south of the main town of Tinos, home to a bustling ferry port and Chora (Old Town) with markets, restaurants, and a charming church. The small, tree-lined Agali Beach is just about 100 feet (30 m) from your doorstep, and a 10-minute stroll east takes you to the popular beach of Agios Fokas, lined with restaurants and bars. You can get around the island by taxi or bus, but you'll want a rental car to really explore it in depth.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The modern property is split into two units, which can be booked separately or as a whole. Each includes two bedrooms, living and dining areas, kitchenettes with Miele appliances and Nespresso machines, and sea-facing outdoor terraces. The upper-story unit is slightly smaller, with one bathroom and a furnished wooden terrace with a large Jacuzzi; the ground-floor includes two en suite bathrooms and a sprawling deck area with its own pool, sun loungers, pouffes, dining area, and outdoor shower. Bedrooms feature luxury COCO-MAT mattresses and bedding, individually-controlled air-conditioning, blackout curtains, lots of closet space, and bedside charging stations. The attention to detail extends to the bathrooms, where you'll find rain-style showers, fluffy robes and slippers, and natural olive-oil-based toiletries.

Amenities

The quality of service sets this apart from the usual self-catering offering. Upon arrival, you'll be met with a generous basket of local wine, fresh fruit, and traditional Tinos treats, and manager Stelios goes above and beyond to ensure you have all the recommendations and tips to make the most of your island experience. The rooms and pools are cleaned daily, and they top up your stock of Nespresso pods, fluffy bathroom and pool towels, and bathroom toiletries at each visit. Breakfast isn't included in the base rate, but it's highly recommended by past kimkim travelers and served on your sunny terrace. You can also arrange for easy airport and ferry transfers or spa services at an additional charge.

Family-Friendliness

Coocono Villas is an ideal spot for families and larger groups, with self-catering facilities and the option to book both units to sleep eight comfortably. Travelers with toddlers and younger children should be aware that the ground-floor unit opens directly onto the pool.

Sustainability

The property utilizes bioclimatic architectural design to maximize passive solar heating and natural cooling—the east-facing setting floods the interiors with light, while wooden shutters and cross-ventilation allow airflow and cooling during the warm weather. Energy-saving windows, appliances, and lighting minimize the carbon footprint, and eco-friendly materials were used in the construction and furnishing, including sustainable hardwoods, Tinian marble, and natural bedding and mattresses by COCO-MAT.
