Sacristía de Santa Ana, Seville

Historic boutique hotel set in a converted 18th-century vestry on the vibrant Alameda de Hércules

Overview

Sleep within a former 18th-century church vestry at Sacristia de Santa Ana, a small boutique hotel in Seville's ebullient "La Alameda" neighborhood. Located in a pedestrian-friendly area, guests are steps away from some of the city's best tapas bars and nightlife venues, with Old Town landmarks like the Alcázar and Seville Cathedral just a 20-minute stroll south. The traditional Andalusian-style architecture includes a central tiled patio, and the 25 rooms are decorated in a classical style, with restored antique furniture, delicate toile fabrics, and options for street views and balconies.

Kimkim's Take

Pros
  • You'll find yourself just north of Seville's historic center, close to the nightlife of Alameda de Hércules and within easy walking distance of the Alcázar and Plaza Nueva.
  • The hotel is brimming with character, with plenty of period features from its history as an 18th-century church vestry.
  • Rooms are furnished with beautifully painted antiques and beaded chandeliers; some include vaulted ceilings or balconies overlooking the plaza.
  • There's an optional breakfast buffet served daily, including Andalusian classics like tortilla and jamón.
Cons
  • Some smaller rooms face the interior courtyard and halls and can feel dark and stuffy.
  • Rooms overlooking La Alameda experience street noise when the windows are open, though double soundproofed windows keep things peaceful when closed.
  • There's no parking on-site, and nearby paid lots can be expensive.

Authenticity

Sacristía de Santa Ana's three-story building dates back to the 18th century, when it was used as a church vestry and later as an inn. You'll still find period features like red ceramic tile floors, a marble fountain, and original stone columns in the traditional Andalusian courtyard area, while the upstairs rooms retain details like original windows, iron balconies, and vaulted wooden ceilings. Each is named for a character from classical mythology (inspired by the hotel's setting overlooking Alameda de Hércules) and decorated with a mix of hand-painted furniture, restored antiques, beaded chandeliers, and touches of gilt moulding.

Location

The hotel sits on a corner of Alameda de Hércules, a pedestrian-only avenue and plaza considered the center of Seville's bohemian and LGBTQ+ communities. "La Alameda" is a small neighborhood in itself, filled with some of the city's best tapas bars, nightlife, and arts venues. Old Town sites like the Alcázar and Seville Cathedral are a 20-minute walk south, or you can hop on one of the buses that stop just across the street. The train station is 15 minutes away by taxi or 30 minutes by bus, and it's a 20-minute drive to the airport. There's no on-site parking, and paid lots nearby tend to be expensive.

Rooms & Bathrooms

All 25 rooms are decorated in a classical style, with shades of dusty pink and pale olive, toile de jouy upholstery, and restored antique furniture. Avoid the smallest units (which face the interior gallery and have no exterior windows) and upgrade to a Superior for an airier, brighter feel, with large windows or balconies overlooking the street. Splash out on the Junior Suite for beautiful views over the Alameda de Hércules, vaulted wooden ceilings, and marble floors. Bathrooms are marble-tiled (most with tub/shower combos), and all rooms include air-conditioning, WiFi, kettles, robes, and slippers. There's one accessible room available, and all three floors are served by two elevators.

Amenities

This boutique spot is all about architecture and ambience, so don't expect much in the way of traditional hotel amenities. There's a simple, optional breakfast buffet served in the lobby area each morning, and you can grab tapas and light meals at the neighboring restaurant (though there are so many great dining options in the area you're sure to venture out). A complimentary coffee and tea station is available all day near reception, and guests can also use the small library/business room.

Family-Friendliness

Families are welcome at Sacristía de Santa Ana, though there are no specific amenities geared toward children. The location on the pedestrian Alameda de Hércules is ideal for kids, with two playgrounds and lots of open space to play, and you'll find plenty of dining options within an easy stroll. The Triple Room accommodates families comfortably with an extra single bed; larger groups might want to book the hotel's separate self-catering apartment, which sleeps six and includes a terrace and full kitchen.

I think it could have been a language barrier since we did not speak Spanish so not sure it was any faults of the staff but we did not get anything extra here.

Nicely located in a historic district with the gorgeous cathedral and medieval quarter within walking distance. Plenty of restaurants with outdoor seating for delicious Spanish meals. Clean, and a wonderful breakfast with many different options to please anyone. Breakfast began at 7, but of course a visitor with a tight schedule should double check. Our guide told us that this was once a private residence but now a hotel. It is unique and very cozy. Our room overlooked the square and was nice to see and hear all the activity.

The building exterior and lobby has character. It is not very big hotel so there is not a lot of people going in and out of the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful - they helped us arranged for take away breakfast on days we had early tours. We were only able to eat breakfast at their restaurant once and we wished we ate there every morning because what we had was yummy! The hotel is located in a busy street so at night you can hear some commotions. One thing they need to update... Read more

One thing they need to update is that their website says they have laundry service but we were told that service is no longer provided.

A converted church with lovely features and atmosphere. We had a patio off our roo which was a real bonus.
