3-4 Day Private Tour in Iceland

A couple visited Iceland in August 2017

“We are a retired couple, and we are visiting Iceland for around 3-4 days and we would like a private tour to drive us to see the waterfalls, geysers, blue lagoon, black beaches, midnight sun, northern lights if possible and stay in the capital to look at the galleries etc.”

Midgard Adventure Team, a local specialist from Iceland, helped this traveler put together a customized itinerary.

Summary of the trip planning conversation

Below are some useful excerpts from the trip planning conversation

Hi, welcome to kimkim! Thank you for contacting us to help with your travel plans to Iceland this summer.

I would be happy to connect you to our partner in Iceland who operates private tours in the south They also operate small group open tours (6-10 people) that are a bit cheaper per person if you would prefer that.

Which option do you think would be the best fit for you?

A private tour for two

Chris McCarty
Ok, I have invited our partner to the conversation to send some ideas, since it's just the two of you, you can also be quite flexible on that day based on weather and how you are feeling.

Due to the timezone, I expect they will join tomorrow.

Thanks Chris,
We only have a few days, so would like to see as much as we can-
we are aged 65 and 70, but my husband is quite fit, me a bit of slow and steady pace, although relatively OK for walking.  We have a range of interests, including art, as well as geography.

Thanks for your help,

Midgard Adventure Team

My name is Gyða and I work for a company called Midgard Adventure, located in South Iceland in a small town called Hvolsvöllur around 1,5 hour drive from Reykjavík. We would be very happy to have you on tours with us. July is a perfect time to experience the midnight sun. This is the time of year I always tell my friends to visit because you have so many hours of daylight.

To start things off I have made a suggestion of what your vacation could look like.

DAY 1 - Blue Lagoon and Golden circle, private day-tour

A guide will pick you up from the aiport and take you to the famous Blue Lagoon. From there your guide will drive with you the Golden Circle. During the route you will see many of the most popular tourist places in Iceland. For example the Gullfoss waterfall which is one of the most powerfull waterfalls in Iceland and Geysir geothermal area which is the only place in Iceland where you can see a geyser erupt. We will also stop at Þingvellir national park, our national shrine. The Alþingi general assembly was established there around 930. Historically it's an interesting place and also geologically interesting for it is situated on the tectonic plate boundaries, you clearly see where the Eurasian plate separates from the North American plate.

At the end of the day your guide will drop you off at your accommodation in Hvolsvöllur area.

DAY 2 – Exclusive South Coast, private day-tour

Pick-up at your accommodation in Hvolsvöllur area
The exclusive south coast tour is our favorite sight combination in the South coast close to the ring road. We usually leave this day a little open so we will be able to adjust to weather and your preferences. However we have main sights that we visit at all time. The Black beach that you mention is a must see sights, Skógarfoss waterfall is a classic and one of the trademarks for the south coast, Vík is a small village and some say one of the most photogenic town in Iceland, Sólheimajökull is one of the ice tongue coming down from the famous Katla Volcano. Not to forget Seljalandsfoss, a waterfall you can walk behind.

Drop-off at your accommodation in the Hvolsvöllur area.

DAY 3 – Thorsmork Mountain reserve, private day-tour

Pick-up at your accommodation in Hvolsvöllur area
Our guides favorite, Thórsmörk will provide you with an experience of a lifetime, engulfed by volcanic glaciers, rough terrain and mind blowing wilderness. You will visit Gigjökull, where the flood from the eruption in Eyjafjallajökul descended. Our local staff will guide you through the scenario giving you a full account of the action that roared through the area in April 2010. We will drive in our modified Super Jeeps which are capable of handling rough terrain and un-bridged rivers, to experience the magnificence of the power of nature, filled with green moss, birch trees, canyons and glacial rivers all around.

Drop-off at your hotel in Reykjavík centre

DAY 4 – Reykjavík sightseeing and museums

On this day you can experience the capital. Walk around the centre and have a nice coffee on the main street called Laugarvegur. Visit any of the many museums and possibly visit a local swimming pool which are very popular among the locals.

Please let me know if you are interested in any of these options or need more information, I am happy to help.

Thank you
All the best

Thanks, Gyda.
