Introducing Norway

Similar in size to California, but with only five million people, Norway has plenty of open space to explore. Its unique fjords, mountains, and picturesque villages give this outdoor adventure paradise a unique character.

When is the best time to visit?
Norway's latitude, with part of the country located north of the Arctic Circle, creates pronounced seasonal differences. Hike and cycle the Scandinavian landscapes, and experience the midnight sun during summer; go dogsledding, skiing, snowmobiling, and see the northern lights in winter. Learn more

Where to go in Norway?
The go-to destinations for many travelers are Bergen, the charming villages along the world-famous Sognefjord like Aurland and Balestrand, and the scenic Lofoten Islands. A cultural must-visit is the city of Oslo with its many museums and rich history, while Tromsø and Alta are ideal destinations to chase the Aurora Borealis in winter and the Midnight Sun in summer. There are also plenty of ways to experience Norway off the beaten path, with dramatic landscapes and rich culture around every corner.

How many days do I need?
Some visitors breeze through Norway in three days, and while you can quickly tour the country and get a feel for its natural scenery, we recommend planning a week or more to really take in all that it has to offer.

Getting Around Norway
It's common to use multiple modes of transport when exploring Norway. The "best way" to go depends on the region you're in and how far you're going. Ferries are great for witnessing the powerful fjords, while many of the national parks lend themselves well to road trips—and if you're heading all the way to the Arctic Circle, domestic flights are usually the way to go. It was great to do city things in Oslo- jazz club, the opera and also see amazing scenery in the rest of Norway. Sailing through the fjords was a great way to relax while seeing unique landscape. It took a bit of digging to find things to do in Flam-- but the sauna on the fjord was great as was the nearby farm which served a delicious lunch. The mini bus tour to the outskirts of Flam was very worthwhile. Bergen is crowded with people off the cruise ships. Ausland is lovely - it doesn't take much time to see but is a worthwhile stop. The Gehringer fjord should not be missed. And we loved Trondheim- great historic sights and a lovely town. We were there in June and it was cool and rained everyday for a part of the day. Constant switching from sun to clouds and back again. Dress accordingly.

You can take this boat for more than a week but we just did one night as we are not cruise fans. The boat is lovely and there were many seating/view areas that were not crowded. The cabin was bigger than we expected. Food was fine but I wouldn't want to eat it for a week. The check in could be much improved. We were told to wait in line for half an hour to get our dinner seating assignment, only to find out there was no reserved seating for that night, which was our only night. We should have been told we did not need to go on the line. When we did go to dinner there was a wait but they don't put people on a list which is ridiculous.

Taylor great to work with. She was always available and always responsive to our questions and requests. We had a fabulous itinerary with extraordinary hikes in Bergen, Geiranger, Aurland and Alesund . Our hotels were perfect. The one in Bergen was the least favorite but its location was perfect. The only improvement that could have been made was the weather but even in the rain, mist and clouds Norway’s landscape was breathtaking.

Dear Peggy and Gloria,
Thank you very much for your kind review.
This trip was created together with your help, and it simply wouldn't have been the same without your extraordinary kindness, enthusiasm, and support throughout the entire process. Every conversation made it better, and I genuinely felt we were building something special together.
Meeting you both personally on my island made everything even more meaningful. What started as planning a journey has opened the door to what I hope will be a sincere and lasting friendship. Moments like these remind me why I love what I do.
I think our mutual friend, Alan Watts, says it better than I ever could:
"This is the real secret of life. To be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play."
Please continue spreading your gift of listening, your kindness, and your wise advice wherever you go. The world truly needs more people like you. Thank you again, and I hope our paths cross again very soon.
I wish you and your families all the best. :)
Mathia
