Winter Norway Highlights: Cities, Fjords, and Northern Lights

  Traveler visited Norway in December 2017

“I want to travel from Oslo to Tromso in roughly a week. I'd like to do/see the railway, Flam, fjord cruise (not essential, just if time permitting), the northern lights (must see) and dog sledding (must do). I would like to spend at least 1 night in Oslo, 1-2 nights in Flam, and 2-3 nights in Tromso :)”

Below are some useful excerpts from the trip planning conversation
Hi Tamara, Linda here and I am from Norway. I have traveled and worked all over the country, and I am looking forward to help you out.

It is possible to do your trip as you have described above;

Arrive Oslo and spend a night
Take the train to Flåm
Spend a day (can do a winter fjord cruise)
Train to Bergen, spend a day before flight to Tromsø
Three nights in Tromsø including Northern Light hunt and dog sledding

Looking forward to hearing from you.

The two absolutely main things I want to do are the northern lights hunt and dog sledding, I've been told Flam is a must so I want to keep that in as well, and I mainly wanted to start in Oslo so that I can do the railway trip which I've heard is beautiful. Is the train from Flam to Bergen as beautiful? If so, I might skip Oslo. What are your thoughts? :)

Actually, I dont think it is much saving starting in Bergen vs Oslo, so let me focus on starting from Oslo.

The train from Flåm to Bergen is very beautiful, in particular the stretch Flåm to Myrdal, which is the Flåmsbana and famous for being one of the steepest railways in the world.

Let´s see where we end on price wise including Oslo. As long as you dont mind it being a bit rushed..?

It sounds so amazing!! Don't mind being a bit rushed - happy to pack in as much as possible. Thank you so much for your help :)
