Day 1: Arrive in Ljubljana - SUP tour
Welcome to Ljubljana! After your arrival, spend a little time relaxing in the heart of the capital: stroll across the iconic Dragon Bridge and the unique Triple Bridge, stopping in any number of bars and boutiques near Prešern Square. When it's time, you'll meet your guide for your introductory stand-up paddleboarding ("SUP") lesson before taking to the Ljubljanica River and seeing for yourself why Ljubljana was awarded the European Green Capital award.
Day 2: SUP & picnic on the Kolpa River, Škrilj Bunker tour & Kočevje Glamping
Today you will drive a couple of hours south toward the Croatian border to one of the most uncommercialized and preserved rivers in Slovenia, the Kolpa River. Paddle through the Kolpa canyon taking in the peaceful setting: thick forests, birds chirping, and the sounds of the flowing river. You'll work your way to a calm section of the Kolpa and stop for a picnic at the water's edge, swim, and relax before heading to the Cold War-era Škrilj Bunker. You'll have some time to wander the enclosed (former) military grounds and if there's interest tour some of the underground bunker's complex of corridors and rooms.
From there, you'll transfer the 20 minutes to a sprawling campground on the outskirts of Kočevje, where you will spend the evening in glamping comfort.
Chat with a local specialist who can help organize your trip.
Day 3: Mushroom hunting & bear sighting
Enjoy a unique excursion in Kočevje today that includes bear sightings and mushroom tracking. Meet your local guide and head into the woods. Following a narrow path, and with your guide's instructions, you'll look out for wild mushrooms as well as learn about their characteristics. Next, once in the bear observatory, you'll play a bit of a waiting game to sight a brown bear or two in close proximity. From here, you'll complete the last leg of your trek and end up back at your glampsite.
Day 4: Križna Cave tour - Depart
Spend your last day with a visit to the world-renowned Križna Jama or "Cross Cave"—an underground cave famous for its series of 45 subterranean emerald-green lakes. Join a boat tour and marvel at the quiet as you paddle below stalactites on eerily calm and pristine waters. As you navigate the cave system, you'll stop to discover cave bear remains and an ancient hideout structure from the Eneolithic period. Enjoy one last traditional Slovenian meal for lunch before you make your way to the airport for your onward journey.
