Gummy did a great job organizing our nine day trip around Iceland. As older couples, we didn’t want to spend a long time on the road and he definitely met that. We saw all the amazing highlights and had time to add a few extras on our own. The hotels were first right! The food recommendations were very good! Again, we did find a few amazing ones on our own. Gummy took the lion share of the planning and making of the reservations, which made our trip that much more enjoyable

Last summer my family (7-year-old daughter, 9-year old son, me and my husband and my parents) decided 2026 was the year for our bucket list trip to Iceland. We decided to work with KimKim again after the wonderful experience we had the summer before traveling to Japan.

I reached out to KimKim last June to start planning and they put me in touch with Gummi, our Icelandic travel coordinator and who ended up being our tour guide and driver who was with us for most of our trip. More to come in a moment on Gummi the guide.

As our travel coordinator, Gummi was incredibly responsive and helpful in shaping our vacation. He helped us prioritize the areas of the country that best aligned to the vacation we were looking for, he helped us pick activities and excursions that were great for the kids and my parents alike, and he strongly suggested we didn’t miss out on seeing highlands of Iceland which ended up being most of our group’s favorite part of the trip. His hotel and restaurant recommendations were wonderful; every meal was fantastic.

As a guide, we couldn’t have asked for more!
Gummi’s knowledge of the country, from its history and the Viking Sagas to the volcanoes and eruptions that have shaped the landscape, to the glaciers, and Nordic mythology, his expertise was so impressive. Some of my favorite parts of the trip were hearing Gummi and my son swap their favorite stories about Odin, Thor and the rest of the Nordic gods:). He was so engaged with all of and also was great at managing the time he was with us and when we had time as a family. Yes we could have rented a car and driven ourselves stop to stop but we would have missed out on so much each day that we learned, thanks to Gummi. The conversation in the van rides from destination to destination was as enjoyable as the stops!

We are so grateful to Gummi and KimKim for this amazing experience. It’s our favorite family vacation yet and we give so much credit to Gummi for taking wonderful care of us and treating us like family!

Our accommodations were very comfortable. We enjoyed seeing the natural beauty Iceland had to offer. We loved our underground cave tour and the trip to the blue lagoon. We can't wait to travel again! The entire trip plan was designed beautifully. The driving time was constructed allowing me time to travel the entire Ring Road and the West Fjords yet it allowed me enough time to not just stop and see the sights but to participate in activities and to hike a great deal which was an important desire of mine. During the trip two scheduling conflicts occurred one totally my mistake and the other was an activity booking error. The Kim Kim team responded quickly and both issues were resolved with a quick and positive outcome. Highlights of the trip included the Bike and Bath tour at Lake Myvatn, my bike guide Ragner provided an a fun and informative tour. The Zodiac Boat tour at the Jokulsarlon Glacier was a surprise highlight. Two unexpected pleasant stops were my stay at the very small village Drangsnes at the Malarhorn Guest House ( such friendly hostess) and maybe my favorite stay was the village of Seydisfjordur. I would have stayed an extra night had time allowed. The village was stunning and hiking was excellent. Spending my last night at the Sky Lagoon was a perfect wrap up for the trip. Overall the entire trip was a highlight for me, the waterfalls are each so unique and amazing and the geographical differences throughout the country are hard to describe, you just have to see it.

Where do I even start?! All 4 of us - myself, my husband, and my 2 girls, ages 6 and 8 had an amazing time! I provided some guidance to Gummi, and he planned us an amazing trip. First of all, the accommodations were amazing:

Berjaya Reykjavik Marina - This was our favorite hotel of the trip. It was such a cozy, hygge vibe. Exceptionally clean. So many different rooms to hang out in! An awesome restaurant and bar with a happy hour. You could tell that this was not only a great place for tourists but for locals as well. There were always locals hanging out at the bar and in the lobby. Our kids loved the bunk bed in our room and the libraries and different rooms in the hotel. My daughter and I got sick one of the days, and it was nice that we had such a cozy room to hang out in. It was truly a place we loved to hang out in. The included breakfast buffet was the cherry on top!

Skálatjörn Guesthouse / Goat Farm - My girls were in love with the goats. The woman who runs the place was so friendly, and everything was exceptionally clean. It was a great place to rest after a long day of exploring.

Hotel Vík í Mýrdal - Amazing breakfast. Very spacious room with a loft area for our kids to sleep (they loved it). Their room darkening shades could use some work, but all in all it was a great place to stay. Close walking proximity to everything we had planned in Vík. Exceptionally clean.

Some activities we did that really stood out:

Blue Lagoon Comfort Admission (If I went back to Reykjavik, I would definitely do the Blue Lagoon a few more times! It was very relaxing)
Lava Tunnel Activity (This lava tunnel was seriously cool. My kids enjoyed all the troll lore. )
Glacier Ice Cave Experience (This was my favorite activity of the entire trip - it was so amazing! Once in a lifetime experience for sure!)
Explore Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon by Amphibian Boat ( we enjoyed seeing all the wildlife and my kids really enjoyed skipping rocks on the glacier bay beach)
Reykjavík Puffin Watching (I've never seen a puffin, let alone so many puffins all at once! This was truly a sight to see! Don't expect to get close enough to get any true close-ups of puffins though - I was a bit disappointed by how my photos turned out from so far away). However, I understand why it is important to give them space while they are nesting. Bring a really powerful telephoto lens if you plan to do this! I had one but needed more zoom! I actually enjoyed this more than the whale watching excursion - mainly because it was only an hour whereas the whale watching was 4 hours on a boat; my kids grew tired of being on the boat for that long.
Family-Friendly Horse Riding on Black Sand Beach. - Big hit with the whole family! The horses were all so sweet and well-behaved. I was a bit worried considering this was my first time on a horse ever, but I felt very safe!
The Secret Lagoon - Very cool hidden gem. The rocks at the bottom of this hot spring feel soooo good on the feet!

Gummi was very responsive on WhatsApp whenever we had issues. I would highly recommend using him as a guide or planner for any trip to Iceland. We even got to meet him in person because he was driving a couple and happened to stop at the same restaurant as us at the same time. I saw him and thought, that has to be him, and it was!

While our local specialist had many good suggestions for sites to see and things to do that I may not have discovered on my own, the planning process was sometimes frustrating. Response times for questions were often too long, sometimes a week at a time. Most importantly, when I asked if two weeks was time enough to see and do all the things I had on the list, I was told it was. Unfortunately, this was not the case and we had already booked our flights when I figured that out. On the positive side, the accommodations our specialist booked were for the most part quite nice. Her suggestion to take a zodiac tour of the Jokulsarlon Lagoon rather than the amphibious boat was great . It was one of the highlights of our trip. She also recommended a wonderful shop, Handradinn in Hofn, for hand knit Icelandic sweaters. Lastly she had a good knowledge of hiking trails and which roads would be accessible in early June.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I'm very happy to hear that you enjoyed many aspects of your trip and that the zodiac tour on Jökulsárlón, the accommodations, Handraðinn in Höfn, and the hiking recommendations helped make your visit to Iceland memorable.
I also appreciate your comments about the planning process. You're absolutely right that my response times were slower than they should have been, and I sincerely apologize for the frustration this caused. During your planning period, I took a short break and made the mistake of not arranging for a colleague to take over my messages. I genuinely believed there was still enough time before your trip, but I recognize that I should have communicated better and ensured you received timely support.
Regarding the itinerary, two weeks is generally enough for many travelers to experience Iceland's Ring Road and many of its highlights. Every traveler has a different pace and priorities—some people are happy with five or six days around the Ring Road, while others could easily spend three weeks or more exploring. Looking back, I should have had a more detailed discussion with you about your travel style and wish list to make sure your expectations matched what could comfortably fit into your available time.
Thank you again for your honest feedback.I truly appreciate the opportunity to have helped with your Iceland journey and wish you many more wonderful travels ahead.

Best regards,

This drive was easy with many beautiful sights along the way. Mainly on Route 1, the ring road. Studlagil Canyon was an amazing experience with a reasonable hike and round-trip walk of about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Gummi had us park on the East Side of the canyon, which gave us the most amazing views. You can walk down to the river's edge, which on the other side of the canyon you cannot do. From here, we went to Dettifoss and Selfoss, both beautiful waterfalls, although I preferred Selfoss as you could view the entire waterfall. Dettifoss is partially hidden. We then went to Hverir geothermal park, where our lungs were filled with the smell and sound of bubbling mud pits and steam pumping through stacks. The colors in the landscape vary widely, and the place looks like you landed on the moon! Our final stop was the Fosshotel in Lake Myvatn.

From the moment we started to plan our trip Gummi was right there guiding us along, listening to our concerns and showing us the way to make our trip a success. He promptly answered our texts, showed up on time, made sure the people we needed to see were right there to help us. I feel like we really got to know and appreciate the parts of Iceland we saw and it was amazing. The lava fields and a lava cave, the fjords, the glaciers, a glacier cave, the highlands, the food and the people - such a beautiful country!!

Thank you again for an incredible trip!!

It was so nice to walk around Reykjavík and enjoy the local cuisine. Being able to taste the different dishes was so much fun. We did this tour at the end of our 10 day trip and we thought we had tried a great variety of food during our stay. We were still surprised by a few new dishes during the food tour.

We just got back from a 9-day self-drive family adventure through Iceland, and it was hands-down one of the best trips we've ever taken. From the moment we landed at Keflavík to our final night back in Reykjavík, every single detail was thoughtfully planned out, and we owe that entirely to our guide, Gumi.
From the Blue Lagoon to the black sand beaches of Reynisfjara, the basalt cliffs of Snæfellsnes, the waterfalls of the Golden Circle, whale watching in Faxaflói Bay, exploring Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon by amphibian boat, and even a lava cave tour, the itinerary hit every iconic spot without ever feeling rushed. Each day flowed perfectly into the next, with driving times, hotel check-ins, and activities all lined up seamlessly.
What really made this trip special was how much care Gumi put into planning. Nothing was left to chance, from picking family-friendly accommodations with the right room setups for the three of us, to building in flexibility for weather and long summer daylight hours, to making sure meals and breakfasts were included where it mattered. Whenever we had a question or needed help along the way, Gumi was right there, making sure everything ran smoothly.
Traveling with a child can make logistics tricky, but Gumi thought of everything. The pacing was perfect for our family, and we never felt overwhelmed or rushed. It's clear this wasn't just a cookie-cutter itinerary; it was crafted specifically with our family in mind.
We left Iceland with incredible memories, and we know none of it would have come together so beautifully without Gumi's expertise, attention to detail, and genuine care. If you're planning a trip to Iceland, do yourself a favor and work with Gumi. You won't regret it!

Accommodations were very spacious and location was beautiful. Staff were all very friendly. Would have preferrred to at least have coffee provided in the room. Coffee was only in dining area with breakfast which came with a purchased breakfast. Sauna and mineral pool was a nice perk. I know algae is a natural part of thermal springs but it doesnt look very inviting when there are many clumps of algae floating all over the surface of the hot tub. Felt like a little scooping would be to everyone's benefit, lol.

We had perfect sunny weather - so that was lucky! Learning the story of the 1971 volcanic eruption at Eldheimer was a real high point of the trip. We particularly enjoyed the learning more the social and human history of the island - to go along with all the geologic wonder. I think a trip to the island is not complete without a visit to this museum. Also ferry runs on electricty - it was superinterested to see how the ferry charges and to appreciate the lack of deisel fumes and the quiet of the ferry. So that was really cool for us. We did see puffins at the puffin look out and that was great too.
