Authenticity

Villa Kapella is a true family affair. The original villa was built in 1986, and the current owner, Annamie, grew up with its red tiled roof, wooden shutters, and open verandas. Today, she and her husband Spyrgos have turned the property into a welcoming spot to experience a more authentic side of rural Corfu, surrounded by olive groves, sleepy country roads, and the distant sound of sheep bells. The outdoor spaces are a particular highlight here, with manicured lawns, mature gardens, and furnished stone terraces with hammocks.

Location

The villa sits just outside the small village of Vatos on Corfu's western side, surrounded by the olive groves and vineyards of the Ropa Valley. You can walk into the village in 10 minutes on narrow country roads, but you'll want a car to get around easily. It's a 30-minute drive east to Corfu Town, and a reliable bus stops right outside the villa for easy connections to Corfu Town, the airport, and lots of beaches. The sandy and secluded Myrtiotissa beach (popular with nudists) is a 2-minute drive away, with Glyfada, Kontogialos, and Yaliskari just a few minutes beyond. Walkers can pick up the 120-mile (200 km) Corfu Trail in Vatos.

Rooms & Bathrooms

Villa Kapella now has nine self-catering, air-conditioned units, ranging from studios to two-bedroom apartments. Those in the main house still have a vintage feel with beachy pastels, tile floors, and French doors, while the newer additions feel more contemporary, with tongue-and-groove ceilings and an earth-tone palette. All units include COCO-MAT mattresses, fully equipped kitchens, an extra sofa bed, and terraces or porches. Bathrooms are mostly tiled, with showers and eco-friendly toiletries.

Amenities

This is a self-catering property, so you won't find many hotel-style amenities beyond the three-times-a-week housekeeping and a helpful staff who can arrange things like bike rentals and reservations. There's a small lending library for guests, and beach towels and laundry services are available at an added charge. 

Family-Friendliness

This is an ideal spot for a family vacation—children have plenty of room to run around in the extensive gardens and lawns (where they'll also find a charming swing set and playhouse), and animal lovers might cross paths with one of the friendly outdoor cats. The ground-floor apartment suits larger groups well, with two bedrooms (one with bunk beds), a washer/dryer, and a large shared terrace with a barbecue.
