Kimkim Trip Reviews for Spain

We have used KimKim for our travel before, and loved it. This time, however, was not what was expected or described. We took a trip to Italy and Spain. While a glitch or two happened in Italy that part of the trip was great! The guides were informative and helpful. The Pantheon guide, Franchesa, was exceptional and recommend the best gelato we had the entire trip- Gunther Gelato. Florence and Venice were great. Kudos to the Mama Florence Cooking School and Market tour, and the Venice Mystery Tours in Venice-Nico. Caterina, who showed us the Old Town and La Segurada Familia was fantasticUnfortunately, if you are going to Spain, I would suggested a tour company that better describes the activities. From confusion regarding the taxi to the airport in Mallorca, to the extremely poor description of the Costa Brava tour. The guide, David, was good, but the tour was basically 3 hours at the beach, sunbathing. The description was see this castle, walk around this town etc. Would have been easier to rent a car and go to Costa Brava on our own. The tour to Monsarret was nice and our guide, Javier was super, however if you are not a hiker or really religious the tour could have been shortened by 45 minutes.

Costa Brava Day Trip: Tossa de Mar and Panoramic Boat Ride

This tour would be better described as a beach daysunbathing- on a scenic route with a boat ride. 3.5 hours of an beach with nothing else was not very exciting. My daughter sunbathed for an hour while I spent 2.5 hours on my phone. We should have spent an hour there and the three hours in Tassa de Mar, where there was a a small shopping are, restaurants and a castle.

Unfortunately this experience with Kim Kim did not mirror my first, which was truly exceptional. Among my complaints, round trip transfers to and from the airport were not included in our itinerary. If transportation is arranged to bring us from our villa to the airport, I would expect transportation back to the airport would be include. Further our coordinator didn’t consult with us regarding our flight from Barcelona to Mallorca. Specifically the luggage restrictions. Two of the guests traveling ended up paying more than the airfare in round trip luggage fees. Again, this is something that should have been brought up prior to tickets being purchased for us. The local tours we did including Sagrada, walking food tour and the boat day were really great. They were the only aspects saving this trip from less stars. Not sure if I’ll use KimKim again for our next big international girls trip, sadly

Our family had a wonderful and worry-free experience in the Basque region of Spain thanks to Alfonso’s detailed planning. During the trip Alfonso and his assistant Uhaina provided continuous communication, reminders and immediate responses to any questions. The hotel selections were extraordinary in comfort and location.
Our walking tour guide in San Sebastian, Juan, excelled in explaining the cultural and culinary history of the city. We especially enjoyed the variety in the pintxos walking tour that highlighted traditional and modern tastings. In Bilbao our Guggenheim Museum guide, Susana, pointed out the uniqueness of the art, sculptures and the building itself in an entertaining and fun fashion. Our cooking class experience at Gastronomica Bilbao was not only instructive, but also delicious and we’ve already recreated the Basque cheesecake recipe! In Madrid, we were most impressed by the depth of knowledge shared by our guide, Jose, at the Prado Museum and Royal Palace.
This is our fifth vacation experience with KimKim and we value them as our planning partner.

This was our first time using kimkim to plan a trip anywhere. It made the entire process incredibly easy and I will be recommending it to all of our friends back home. Our trip coordinator was Alfonso Nuñez with Basquelands Way. He was excellent and was always quick to respond when we messaged him with questions. We asked him to put together quite a complex trip that involved traveling to and planning activities in Madrid, Barcelona, Calders, and Palma de Mallorca. He created an amazing trip and handled our requests with ease. Our favorite activities that he planned for us were the hot air balloon ride with Mallorca Balloons, the private olive oil farm tour at Finca Aubocassa, the tuk-tuk tour of Madrid with Tu Tuk Tuk, and the walking tour of Madrid with our guide Jose. I highly recommend Alfonso if you are planning a trip to Spain. We had an incredible time.

Adam has planned two fantastic trips for me this year as I have capitalized on my daughter's stint teaching English in Madrid! The hotels he found for me in Madrid and Granada were outstanding, and he set us up with some incredible food and adventure tours, including a wine tasting in Mallorca that he joined us for--kimkim's specialists like to get firsthand experience of anything they recommend! It was so much fun to finally get to meet him :-) We spent a couple of gorgeous afternoons sailing the Balearic Sea, had our minds blown by the Alhambra and the Thyssen (my favorite Madrid museum), and of course, sampled allllll the tapas everywhere we went. Adam also booked all our transfers--trains, planes, automobiles--so we were able to travel all over Spain without a hitch, which by itself more than justifies using kimkim's services. I've worked with them multiple times in three different countries now; I don't mind planning my own travel when it's just me, but as a mom who often travels with one or more of my kids, I really appreciate having a local specialist (and fellow adult) in my destination who can provide some logistical support and guidance far from home. I will definitely be back in touch with Adam for my next Spanish adventure, since I still haven't made it to the north yet!

Dalia was very helpful in planning the trip. She helped us narrow down the places we wanted to see and figure out which cities would make good bases for side trips. Vejer de la Frontera was charming white village and we’re happy Dalia tipped us off to Fondación MAC sculpture garden (or rather, sculpture in a natural setting) outside of town. It was good to have quick phone access to her during the trip when we needed a doctor and when no one could direct me to the car rental place. Best of all, she found two excellent bird photography guides for John who took him to great locations he could never have found otherwise. The other guides were good too, especially Marco, who led us on a walk through La Breña Natural Park and knew about all the local plants, and Joaquin in Cordoba.

This was the absolute most amazing vacation we have ever taken. Alonso and his team went above and beyond to ensure we had the most memorable time. We were a family of 10 spanning 3 generations. We started our trip in Madrid. We wanted to start our trip with a tapas tour with expectations of a culinary experience. Jose, our guide in Madrid, took us on a journey of history and culture that was woven in with the different dishes. We spent 3 days with him experiencing food, touring the palace and ending in Toledo with Easter mass and a tour of the streets. In Barcelona our experiences included a bike tour, a tapas tour, the most wonderful guide at Sagrada Familia, a FC Barca game and ended with a winery tour and a trip up the mountain to Montserrat . We are ready to plan our next vacation and Kim Kim has set the standard so high we are afraid of being disappointed. Thank you so much to Alfonso and Uhania for your attentiveness.

This was the highlight of our vacation. Our guide at the winery took is on a journey of the wine and olive oil of the region. After we had our favorite meal of our Spain trip. We may have drank a little too much mine so the ride up the mountain to Monserrat was slightly rough but so worth it. Monserrat is one of the most beautiful places we have been too.

Our trip to Portugal and Spain was excellent. All of the arrangements were perfectly done by Raquel and her team. They were extremely accommodating to our needs and wants and everything in the trip went flawlessly. Every driver pick up was perfectly on time. All of the drivers had a great personality and talked with us the entire time. We actually became friends with Ze (I think his full name is Jose but he said to call him Ze) He is a musician as I am and we share videos now of each other performing. He was extremely friendly. In addition Jesus another driver from Sevilla to Granada was equally as good. So friendly, knowledgable and went out of his way to be accommodating for us. Both of these people should get 5 stars plus and get bonuses. That being said we tipped everyone we encountered very well.

For the tour guides, they were also excellent and tipped well. Ones that stood out were Feliz at the hike to the castle in Lisbon. He was super friendly, knowledgeable, and a great person to be around. All of the rest of the guides were amazing fun and just great people. There are too many to name, however I am going to name one more that has to be the nicest person we encountered. His name was Paulo and he was the guide to Nazare. The strangest part is that I never met him in person. I unfortunately along with my wife got sick that day and could not go on the tour. He did take our friends Lisa and Mike though. That being said he was so concerned with our health, that he offered to take us to the hospital, when we refused he went to the pharmacy got us some medicine and brought it to the hotel. He continued to call us through the day to make sure we were ok. He was a true hero on my book. The medicine he got us made us better so we could go on the next days tours.

The entire tour was perfect. The tour guide that they choose for each tour were fantastic and very, very knowledgeable. Joseph was not only very informative but made the tour such a fun experience during our tour of the Park Guell and the Sagrada Familia.. Our second tour was a Tapas and wine tour. Korneila was our guide for this tour and she was lovely! The spots she took us were phenomenal! The first spot i will dream about forever! It was such a wonderful and delicious experience. Our last tour was in Costa Brava and that was a very long day but our guide Kimuu was excellent! Again super knowledgeable and super friendly! His coworker as well, who drove us to and from each destination. The Drivers were also friendly and were on time for each transfer. This was not my first time going to Spain but it was my mothers, brother and his girlfriends first time and they had an incredible time! I am so happy that our first time experience with Kimkim was such a great experience. The hotels were amazing especially the hotel in Costa Brava! That was such a perfect place to end our vacation. The picture did not do it justice! I will definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone I know. The only issue was for the first tour we had a hard time finding our guide. There was not any specific details on what to look for but luckily we got to the meeting point on time and we were able to find Vincent aka joseph. Thank you KIMKIM for making my 30th birthday amazing.

We had a great time thanks largely to all of your work. All of the hotels were really nice and we particularly liked the one in Seville (our fave) and the one in Barcelona (our 2d fave). The locations were great and the staff at each one was very helpful.
The tour guides were all at least very good and some were excellent! The drivers showed up on time and often gave us their own version of the city tour! I would say that the pick up at the train stations were not as smooth as some of the others, but our last driver called and told us exactly where he was going to be, and we met him there. If the other drivers could be asked to do that, I think future travelers would find things that much easier.
Truly, we talked often about what a great job you and your team had done for us and except for those few “ hiccups,“ it is hard to imagine how things could have gone any better. Thank you for making our first trip to Spain so much fun!

This was our second trip to Spain, and we wished to visit several regions that we had not previously visited, including Madrid, La Rioja, the Basque region and Valencia. This required a bit a logistical planning. The planning process with Coraima was a pleasure, as she arranged multiple separate travel arrangements and connections for us. Coraima found lodging for us in wonderdful, walkable neighborhoods as we requested. She also arranged several private and small group tours for us. The highlights were the wine tours in Rioja, and the walking tours in Bilbao. We had the pleasure of meeting with Beatriz twice in Bilbao, once for a walking tour of the Old Town, and a second time for an eating tour. She was a delightful guide who had a wealth of information that she related in a relaxed and enjoyable manner. Our driver/guide in Rioja was also personable, relating lots of information as he drove us to the wineries. The two wineries we visited were a terrific choice, with one demonstrating more classic caves, and the other a more modern process. All in all, I highly recommend KimKim for planning your next trip.

We really enjoyed the 21-day trip in Spain that Raquel arranged for us. We are two active older adults that have lived and traveled in Europe a number of times. We like making our own adventures.
We ask Raquel to arrange two long stays, one in Granada and the other in Leon, plus a several day car trip in the Basque country. From each location we ask Raquel to suggest several day-long adventures and make arrangements for a few special ones. All the hotels were beautiful and well located, the train tickets were spot on common and the individual car arrangements were perfect. I don't think we could have wished for anything better.
We recommend Kimkim travel and Espiritu for your next travel plans in Spain

The trip and individual guides were excellent.
1. Camino passports: it would have been nice to have been referred to a website to obtain these in advance. Several of our fellow travelers did this. We were able to get passports in Porto from the cathedral after doing some research.
2. Hotels: In general, they were quite acceptable with those in Lisbon and Santiago de Compostela being exceptional. The hotel across the tracks from the train station in Padron was our least favorite as it was well out of the way of the Camino and understaffed. We opted to go to town as a group for dinner.
3. Trip planning: I would most strongly recommend adding a day after the arrival in Santiago de Compostela to attend the mass and tour the town on the day after completing the walk. That was a big missing part for Sidney and me.

We felt like we spent 3 hours with a real wine expert. We finished knowing much more about the area and the wines than we did before.

I was too busy to really think much about this trip before we went, so I really had to trust Rita to create a fun itinerary with nice places to stay. She did a great job on both accounts. Each time we got to a new hotel we were so pleasantly surprised at how lovely they were, especially the Parador hotel and the Puebloastur spa hotel. I wouldn't have necessarily even thought to book the breakfast included option, but Rita did and we were really glad to have that option every morning. Almost all of the hotels we stayed in had really good breakfasts with a wide variety of food available.
The itinerary was really fun. We went to places I don't think I would have known about if I had tried to plan the trip on my own. I was grateful to have tickets purchased in advance and guides all booked in advance. Everything went really smoothly with tickets and the guides being on time and very knowledgeable about the area in which they were guiding. Almost all of them were born in the area where they were guiding. There was a really great variety of sites and locations on our itinerary from countryside, to towns, to cities and islands, to beaches, to forests, to mountains. We had a good mix of cultural sites and activities, as well.
I think the weakest part of the experience was the limited amount of information we had about the driving days and what to see along the way. The app would suggest a few places to stop but I didn't have a good sense of what to do there. It would have been better, in my opinion, to choose one or two stops with just the one main attraction in that place because when you're driving from one place to the next, you don't have much time in each location. Also, it would have been nice to have specific walking routes or short hiking routes outlined for us in the app for each location.
Another think I appreciated about the team was how responsive they were when we were in the middle of the trip. A couple of times we wanted to schedule last minute activities and they were able to do that for us, even on weekends.
I would definitely recommend Rita to other friends who might be interested in the same kind of tour that we did. We appreciated the attention we received, ESPECIALLY since we actually had to cancel the original trip due to us getting covid three days before we were supposed to leave for Spain. Rita rescheduled the whole thing for 10 months later, no problem. That was great.

Puebloastur Eco-Resort Wellness & Spa in the mountains was a highlight. The location was stunning, and the hotel featured an incredible art collection with beautiful sculptures. The spa was very nice, and the overall experience there was truly memorable. I enjoyed it so much that I found myself texting pictures to friends. Definitely a place I would recommend!

Exploring the Cíes Islands was one of my favorite activities. Located in the northwest corner of Spain, just above Portugal, the islands were stunning and definitely worth recommending to anyone visiting this area.

I must say this has been the most enjoyable trips ever taken the KikKim team was fabulous. From the very start of the process Anita was so helpful. Listening to what I wanted my trip to look like. Within a couple days of me submitting my profile I had a custom itinerary put together that fit my request to a T. Anita worked with me all the way thru the process including the days we were on the ground. The accommodations were top notch and the tour selections were fabulous. Not overwhelming but just enough to keep us busy. The local tour guides were top notch and very knowledgeable. All of our transportation to and from airports were great. Picked up in Black Mercedes cars or vans and the drivers were always professional.

Everything was ok with this place. Very minimalistic but had enough that met our needs. A little far from the center of town. We walked there about a 20 minute walk but usually had to get a cab at the end of a long day. And typical cost was 20 Euro for A 5 minute ride. But the walk to town was beautiful and the flowers were awesome.

The guides were very good. We thought some were exceptionally good - Ruth and Lorea in Barcelona, and Pete in Girona. They were personable, informative and able to keep us on track to see all they had planned.
The highlight was the day we spent with the local Basque guide (his name escapes me now) who took us into the Basque countryside. Being from the area for many generations he told us much about the local traditions, the way of life, small details that enriched our visit. We were served a simple authentic top quality lunch by the farmer herself in their 13 generation old farmhouse. A day to remember!
One thing that would have been helpful is to have had restaurant recommendations from a local specialist.

Fantastic trip with the help of Raquel and her colleagues. We had many moving parts with friends joining and leaving our trip at different points. Everyone came together seamlessly!😊
There was a wonderfully informative walking tour of Lisbon with Alix. The driver from Lisbon to Porto included wonderful sights like the town of Obidos, the surfing museum at Nazarre, and a lovely and tasty lunch spot.

Porto was great, starting with a Port tasting our first night. The Douro Valley tour with Gustavo was amazing. We had a walking tour of vineyards and sights with Carlos who really made the area come alive. Gustavo made sure to learn what we like to eat and took us to just the right restaurant, and then on to a wonderful winery tour and tasting.

We had a wonderful tour of French Basque Country with Jaime, even getting to see the town in which he grew up. A walking tour with Geza in Madrid hit the highlights-there’s so much to see! And a guided tour of Toledo was incredible. Such an interesting city so near to Madrid nd so different. Plus our guide provided great shopping opportunities!

Rounding it all out was an amazing Flamenco show our last night. Our agent thought if so many experiences we would never have thought of ourselves. We have taken several other trips to Europe in the last few years. We often schedule excursions once we get there using various apps and websites. Kimkim’s variety and quality of experience far surpassed what we’ve put together ourselves.

This is a lovely boutique hotel on the edge of the Baixa and the Old City. The staff is very helpful and friendly. They made me feel special, and tracked me down in the breakfast room when I was late for an excursion pickup (my fault). The breakfast was delicious and very fresh. At night the bar was a good place to have a glass of wine and chat with other guests. I would definitely stay here again!

Get to Know Lisbon with a Local

The day trip to Toledo was outstanding. Everything went smoothly, from the clean and timely train to the easy navigation of the train stations. Toledo was a charming city, and our guide, who was very knowledgeable having grown up there, enhanced the experience greatly. I would highly recommend a day tour to Toledo for anyone visiting Madrid.

Private Day Excursion: Sintra, Cascais & Estoril

The excursion to Sintra was disappointing. The guide was not up to par and did not allow space for questions or interaction. The tour of Pena Palace was overcrowded, and the audio guide was ineffective due to guards rushing us through, so the audio did not match what we were looking at. The restaurant for lunch seemed to be a conflict of interest as it was owned by someone associated with the excursion company, and the meal was mediocre. Overall, I felt it could have been time better spent in Lisbon.

Day Excursion to Douro Valley: Wine Tasting & Hiking Routes

Porto

Gustavo was a great driver and made sure to take good care of us. He asked what we wanted to see, foods we liked so he could get the right lunch reservation, and told us about the valley, the river, villages, and more. He worked well with our hiking guide as far as timing and drop off and pickup. When we took a little long in the hike, he easily adjusted so we got to lunch in time. Our hike with Carlos was astounding. Hiking down from the top of a hill through vineyards hundreds of years old is an incredible experience. There are beautiful old stone walls, slate supports for the vines, twists of plant material to secure the vines,. These are things we would have missed completely from a car. We walked by shelters for the workers to take their siestas-which they need working from dawn to dark. We were so glad we did this. The vineyard visit at the end of the day was great. It’s one of the few that still crushes some grapes by foot. It was fun to see the granite vats where that’s done. And the wine, of course, was incomparable. This was one of those perfect days from beginning to end. At the restaurant we even ran into a group celebrating a 65th birthday. They shared champagne with us and we sang Happy Birthday to the birthday girl.
