Hotel Alhambra Palace, Granada

Kimkim team favorite · Luxury
Grandiose hotel just steps away from the Alhambra and with incredible views of Granada and its surroundings

Overview

The Hotel Alhambra Palace isn't in the Alhambra; instead, the creator used the Nasrid's grand building as inspiration, opening this luxury accommodation in 1910. The interiors are truly stunning, and the entire hotel sits on a cliff with views of the city, the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and the surrounding valley. Enjoy multiple eateries and terraces with vistas, and opt for a top-floor suite for a private balcony.

Pros

  • The hotel's founder wanted to build a property similar to the Alhambra, so you'll certainly notice the nods to the famous palace and gardens.
  • The breakfast buffet and restaurant offer seating in an atrium or on a terrace overlooking the entire city and surrounding valley.
  • You can walk to many of the significant sites, including the Alhambra, Old Town, and Albaicín, in just 10 minutes.
  • Enjoy panoramic views from the rooftop terrace, hosting an eatery and bar, or relax in one of the hotel's elegant lounges.
Cons
  • The rooms are starting to show slight wear and tear, and some have decor that feels a little outdated.

Authenticity

Since 1910, the Hotel Alhambra Palace has been one of the most historic accommodations in Spain, built to resemble the Nasrid Palace. You'll find many rooms and details inspired by the Alhambra, including brick archways, white columns, tiled walls, and wood ceilings.

Location

The hotel offers an excellent location if you want to be close to the Alhambra and the action of the city's Old Town, as it's about 10 minutes walking from both. You'll need to book tickets in advance to see the Alhambra, but a quiet stroll through the palace's gardens will get you there. Likewise, a walk down the hills of Granada will take you to the Cathedral, Darro River, and Albaicín.

Rooms & Bathrooms

You'll have your choice of classic and deluxe rooms, plus suites. All offer spacious quarters and modern bathrooms, as the hotel completed a renovation in 2017. If you'd like to enjoy vistas of the Alhambra gardens or the city, opt for rooms with views, such as the suites (especially those on the top floor) with separate seating areas or private terraces.

Amenities

The hotel has no pool or spa, but there is one tiny exercise room with a bike and a treadmill that one guest can use at a time. Most hotel rooms are wheelchair accessible; upper rooms are accessible by elevator.

Family-Friendliness

The hotel is family-friendly, offering a free stay for those under two and stays are half price for those under 12. Larger suites are great for families, and babysitting services are available for a surcharge.

Other Highlights

The views at Hotel Alhambra Palace are incredible, stretching across Granada to one side, overlooking the Alhambra gardens to the other, and offering peaks of the often snowcapped Sierra Nevadas. Grab breakfast at the hotel's buffet in the morning, which is extravagant with anything you could want, and enjoy what the hotel calls "the best sunset in the world" from the rooftop restaurant. One curiosity of the hotel is a small theater, El Teatrillo, which hosts concerts and performances.
