Hotel Hospes Palacio de Los Patos, Granada

Luxury
Elegant hotel set in a 19th-century palace with a serene garden and stately rooms

Overview

Set in a 19th-century palace, you'll enter Hospes Palacio de los Patos through tall iron gates and a grand staircase leading to a lovely lobby. But the highlight of the hotel is certainly its gardens, which feel like an oasis and nearly surround the hotel. Some of the rooms have preserved frescoes and other historical elements, and other highlights include an onsite restaurant and spa.

Pros
  • The hotel feels like an oasis in the middle of the city, gated in with a grand entrance and a garden surrounding the property.
  • A 10-minute walk from the hotel takes you to the Cathedral de Granada and the edge of the city's historic Albaicín neighborhood.
  • A beautiful garden surrounds nearly the entire property and offers seating under vines and next to bubbling fountains and an outdoor bar.
  • The onside Los Patos restaurant is a city favorite, serving unique dishes using avant-garde culinary techniques for lunch and dinner.
  • Relax at the Bodyna Spa (which translates to "body" and "nature") featuring an indoor series of pools and several treatment options.
  • Some of the suites have vaulted ceilings with preserved frescoes and molding.
Cons
  • Though still walkable, the hotel is further away from sites like the Alhambra and the Albaicín's viewpoints.
  • For a luxury hotel option, the rooms lack the elegance you might expect and could use some updates.

Authenticity

Hospes Palacio de los Patos is a restored 19th-century palace with many rooms offering original elements, like preserved frescoes and crown molding, mosaic flooring, wood-beamed ceilings, and fireplaces.

Location

Though still centrally located, the hotel is about 10 minutes from the middle of Granada's historic core and the Cathedral de Granada. Plan for more walking if you'd like to take a stroll along the Darro River, explore the Albaicín, or visit the Alhambra. As a trade-off, you'll be a bit closer to Granada's hidden gems, like the Federico García Lorca Park, Puente Romano, and Cuarto Real de Santo Domingo.

Rooms & Bathrooms

The rooms offer quite a bit of variety, from standard units with modern furnishings to grand suites with historic decor. Some feature floor-to-ceiling windows, antique furniture, and preserved elements, such as tile mosaics and ceiling frescoes. Though all are comfy, some seem to lack that luxury factor that you might expect when booking a five-star hotel.

Other Highlights

Palacio de los Patos features a fine-dining restaurant that uses what's known as avant-garde culinary techniques to match the palace's history and decor. Enjoy eating outside on the restaurant's patio, connecting to the hotel's garden wrapping around the property. You can also relax at the spa, which offers a water circuit and treatments like facials and massages.
