Introducing Peru

Peru is a country steeped in culture and natural beauty. From the lush Amazon Jungle to the sacred peaks of the Andes, down whitewater rivers that carve their way toward the South Pacific, Peru has endless regions and highlights to explore.

Where should I go?
Most travelers come to Peru to see Machu Picchu, the iconic ruins perched high above the Urubamba River, yet this is just a small glimpse into what Peru has to offer. One could spend over a week exploring the other ruins of the Sacred Valley, a corridor of villages, mountain peaks, and hiking routes above the Urubamba River. Travelers can also experience the Peruvian Amazon along the border of Brazil, which gives birth to many of the mighty tributaries of the Amazon River, full of wildlife, indigenous cultures, and pristine wilderness. The north of Peru, still undiscovered by mainstream tourism, rewards any traveler who ventures off the beaten path with untouched ruins and vistas. Then down along Peru's West Coast, past beautiful beaches with year-round surfing, you'll arrive at the mysterious Nasca lines, immense geoglyphs carved into the desert sand. Learn more

When is the best time to visit?
Every region in Peru is a bit different. May is one of the best months to visit the Sacred Valley - it marks the end of the rainy season, and travelers can beat the crowds that arrive from June to August. September to November are the best months for wildlife viewing in the Amazon, and November offers some of the best surfing along the Peruvian coast. Learn more

Things to do in Peru
Peru is a great destination for outdoor activities as well as cultural exploration. Trekking, rafting, and biking are all popular activities. The Sacred Valley offers some of the best outdoor activity options in Peru - you can learn more here. If you're looking for a more relaxed trip focused on culture and history, get inspired by these itinerary ideas.

Getting around in Peru
Distances in Peru are very large, so domestic flights (for example from Lima to Cusco to reach Machu Picchu) are typically part of itineraries in Peru. Learn more

How many days do you need to visit Peru?
No matter how much time you have in Peru, whether it's just a few days or a few weeks, this country can offer some unforgettable experiences. With just five days, it's possible to visit the national highlights of Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley. With a week or more the experiences just get better, allowing you time for historic cities and off-the-beaten-path adventures. Learn more

Our itinerary through Peru was beautifully curated, and it’s no exaggeration to say that Peruvian Soul, their local partner, knocked it out of the park. Our tour guide Christian was better than we could have dreamed up! Every detail was handled with precision and heart. The accommodations, transportation, and excursions were all thoughtfully chosen — Christisn essentially was nothing short of incredible. Knowledgeable, passionate, and endlessly kind, He brought Peru’s rich culture and history to life in a way we’ll never forget.

Kimkim has gained lifelong fans in us — this wasn’t just a vacation, it was a life-changing experience.

We had a great family trip to Peru! Kristy from KimKim helped us put together an excellent itinerary, which took us from Lima to the Sacred Valley, Cusco, and ultimately to the Amazon. The guides and drivers were awesome, and the logistics were seamless. We got to experience the fantastic cuisine, learn about Incan culture and see amazing wildlife.

Kristy helped us navigate a late change of dates and found an excellent activity last minute during a nine-hour layover at the Lima airport.

KimKim helped save me dozens of hours of planning and made the whole trip stress-free.

On the first leg of our trip, Abraham took such good care of us in Lima and taught us sandboarding, and facilitated an overall great time. He was friendly, authentic and shared great stories and knowledge about Peru. He took care of fine details and made all the logistics so smooth.

EJ became part of the family. His kindness, hospitality, and engagement (vast depth and breadth of history and culture), made our trip exceptional. We felt immersed and welcomed in the culture. We loved the hikes, traditional earthen pot meal, the winter solstice festival, the fabulous gastronomy, and of course, the Machu Picchu experience. He had a way of reading us / our needs, and flexing to be more present or more behind the scenes. We loved having him join us for meals and his stories made our experience so enriching. Biggest highlight of our time in Peru was meeting the people, especially Rosaura (11 year old who became fast friends with my daughter) as EJ facilitated her joining us to tour Cusco (with her parents' permission of course).

Holiday Inn Lima Airport
Lima

This was a quick overnight for flying out. Only 1.5 miles from the airport but took like 45 min to get there bc of the traffic and screwed up roadways. We had to leave at 4:30am and asked if we could take breakfast to-go and they were militant about not allowing us to take any food away (despite having our own containers) and only allowed us to take a piece of fruit and coffee.

Stunning historic hotel that was beautifully appointed with lovely community spaces in a natural environment (with games and tea, water). The breakfast was the best on the trip - with full buffet and order off the menu. We enjoyed a lovely yoga class on site. Location was ideal, in the center of the city.

Great location and stunning views of the river. Elevator smelled like mold / mildew so we used the stairs, thankfully we were on the 3rd floor. We had a massage at the lower level of the hotel which was a little sketchy (room seemed unfinished and they could do more to protect modesty). We had to ask 3 times for additional towels and finally just stayed at the front desk until they handed them to us.

Beautiful historic hotel but disappointed in customer service. Lovely room that accommodated our family of 4 very comfortably. Excellent breakfast. We loved cozy bar/ community room on the first night. We were disappointed to see the room closed on the second night (for maintenance). Unfortunately the hot tub was non-operational which limited the amenities available on the gorgeous grounds. With no hot tub and no community room, they missed an opportunity to "made it right" by providing a fire pit for guests as an alternative gathering spot. Despite us asking about it, they did not seem interested (although fire pit was available for sale- outrageously priced at 1 bundle of wood for $25USD for only 1 hour). We asked for their assistance in calling a taxi but they did not know how to do this or didn't want to be bothered. Lastly, with an early morning departure, we were frustrated they did not allow us to take breakfast food to go, but did give us some dry snacks and bottle of water. Staff seemed to hide behind a language barrier and just didn't seem motivated or interested in providing a good customer experience.
