Two weeks in Southern Peru

A couple visited Peru in August 2017

“I am interested in an itinerary similar to Beauty Of Southern Peru - 10-Day Itinerary. We would like to discuss a similar schedule, except removing the home stay on Lake Titicaca and, instead, spending a few days doing an excursion to the Amazon, possibly at Puerto Maldonado/Manu National Park.
My wife and I are likely free to travel for two weeks anytime from the last week of July through the last week of August. The tour would preferably be private, but we don't necessarily need a guide the entire time.
We are not very budget-constrained, but prefer value: If a luxury hotel is the best option at a location, we'd love that, but if our itinerary requires budget accommodation we're happy with that as well.”

Summary of the trip planning conversation

Below are some useful excerpts from the trip planning conversation
James:
"I´m pleased you like our itinerary, & I like your idea also for heading towards the jungle at the end. We could add a 3 or 4-day program in the Tambopata jungle to this program. I´m waiting for some information from the jungle lodges so I can show you how the full plan could look. This will involve a couple of domestic flights, from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado & then from Puerto Maldonado back to Lima for your connecting flights.

For your stay in the valley, we would normally recommend the El Albergue (http://www.elalbergue.com/), well renowned in the valley, and for your time in Cusco, we could recommend the el Balcon (http://www.balconcusco.com/). We know the owner of these hotels so can secure preferential rates for your stay.

When I have sourced some more information from the lodges, I´ll build a plan for you so you can see what it looks like. Let me know what you think of this idea for your trip in the meantime, hopefully I should be able to come back to you later today with a full trip plan. Best Regards, James

Traveler Review

Great trip that more than exceeded my expectations. The guides, activities, and accommodations were fantastic. The only thing that I could have improved would have been to do more research myself and request more days hiking.

Having the opportunity to chat with James on the phone could have sparked a discussion of the pace of the trip and whether a more aggressive itinerary made sense for us.
