Less than stellar

Less than stellar. The unfortunate thing was slow communication with the Travel Provider. There were often delays during the planning. Most critically, there were major delays DURING the trip which caused us to have to scramble and make alternative arrangements on our own. Ultimately the service provider/agent did make things right, issuing refunds and becoming more responsive. But it left a bad taste in our mouth re: Kimkim.
I will say the KimKim platform is cumbersome. Having to login to mobile web browser to chat, instead of a dedicated app with chat capabilities, is not ideal.

Loved it all. Driving in country was easier than I thought it might be. Drivers are more courteous in Costa Rica than, e.g. Guatemala. The logistics of landing in San Jose at 1:00 and getting the car and to our hotel meant there was not time to walk around San Jose. We didn't get to the hotel until after 5:00. The logistics of landing in San Jose at 1:00 and getting the car and to our hotel meant there was not time to walk around San Jose. We didn't get to the hotel until after 5:00. Again, not a problem, but a heads up. Rush hour traffic in San Jose is slow like a sloth.

El Presidente hotel was great. Mawamba Lodge was lovely. Pacuare Lodge was spectacular and the tours and guides there were fantastic! And Banana Azul was fine... but after Pacuare Lodge, nothing was going to feel as lovely. Tours in Puerto Viejo were good. All in all, a lovely trip and the help planning it was essential.

Thank you to Kat and the whole team!

Hotel Reviews
Mawamba Lodge
Tortuguero

Mawamba Lodge is set in an excellent location, accessible only by boat. While it wasn't as welcoming as Pacuare Lodge, the location offered a chance to walk into town, which made us appreciate the peaceful setting outside the town of Tortuguero. The lodge was lovely, and the guides and activities were great; however, I might consider trying another lodge in the area if I return, possibly one managed by Böëna, since their lodge experiences seem to stand out.

Hotel Presidente
San José

Hotel Presidente in San José offered a pleasant experience. We enjoyed a great dinner at their lovely restaurant, which made for a relaxing start to our trip. Though it didn't quite match the grandeur of other accommodations on our trip, it provided a comfortable stay in the heart of the city.

Hotel Banana Azul
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca

Hotel Banana Azul in Puerto Viejo was perfectly fine but felt a bit jarring after staying at Pacuare Lodge. It's located right on a road with some traffic, but it's just a short path from the beach, which would be great for beach lovers. We stayed in a lovely little room with an immersion pool, which was nice. The location allowed us to easily get into town and move around, so overall it was a satisfactory stay.

Thank you, Bill, for the wonderful review! I’m so glad you loved the trip and that driving in Costa Rica felt easier than expected... even with a little San José “sloth-speed” traffic. I truly appreciate the helpful notes about arrival timing and tour clarity.

It’s fantastic to hear how much you enjoyed the hotels, especially Pacuare Lodge, it truly is spectacular. Thank you again for your kind words; it was a pleasure planning this with you. Pura vida, and thank you for traveling with kimkim! 🇨🇷

Thank you for your feedback. I’m very happy to hear the experiences - especially the Northern Lights - were such a success, considering that the weather wasn`t promising! I’ll pass your kind words on to the guides.

I also appreciate the note about the meals. That’s useful to know, and I’ll speak with our partners about adding more variety where possible.

It was a pleasure arranging this trip for you. I’d love to see the Northern Lights photos.

Elena really listened to us and created a custom curated itinerary that perfectly met our needs and desires. Best travel agent I’ve ever worked with. The hotels we stayed at were awesome! Arenal Springs Resort in LaFortuna, Cloud Forest Lodge in Monte Verde, and Hotel La Mariposa in Manuel Antonio ( my fav! - incredible view, wonderful room, and fabulous dining area).
We had a driver, Alex, who was very personable and taught us a lot about Costa Rica. Loved having him as our driver! The car was comfortable, clean, and well maintained. We felt very safe riding with Alex.
We went on a river float with Flow Trips. What a great team! Our guide was very knowledgeable and took care to position us so we could see the animals along the way. It was a very enjoyable outing. Highly recommend Flow Trips.
We went on a night hike in Monte Verde with Bosque Eterno de Los Ninos. Very knowledgeable guide who made sure we got to see lots of different animal life.
We did an all day Adventure at Selvatura Park, including zip line, hanging bridges, and butterfly and sloth exhibitions. Exhausting, but so worth it!
We had another driver, Andres, who was very professional and a pleasure to travel with. Did some stops that made the long ride so fun! Again, the car was comfortable, clean, and well maintained.
In Manuel Antonio we went on a morning hike in Manuel Antonio National Park with Endemic Bird. This was my husband’s favorite outing. Highly recommend Endemic Bird! We also went on a sailboat sunset tour with Planet Dolphin. What a great way to end our stay! If you’re in Manuel Antonio, do a catamaran tour. You will love it!
When we return to Costa Rica, we will definitely use Serendipity Adventures!

Our driver, Zaid was exceptional. He was professional, incredibly careful on the roads, and genuinely kind. We always felt safe and well cared for — and his warmth added so much to the overall joy of the journey.

In Marrakesh, our guide Mohamed was equally outstanding. His knowledge, energy, and passion brought both the walking tour and the food tour to life. He helped us see the city beyond the surface and made the experience meaningful and memorable.

One of our favorite highlights was staying at the Agafay Desert camp. It was stunning and completely unexpected — serene skies, camels at sunset, and sleeping in our hut under the stars. It felt magical and unlike anything we’ve ever done.

We are so grateful for such a seamless and unforgettable adventure. Highly recommend!

Our stay at Palais L’Heure Bleue was truly a lovely experience. The hotel is stunning — elegant, intimate, and beautifully authentic. It perfectly blends Moroccan charm with a subtle French refinement, creating such a unique and welcoming atmosphere. The breakfast buffet was superb, with wonderful variety and quality, and dinner in the restaurant felt elegant and special — a true dining experience. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and overall everything worked beautifully… except for the coffee machine, which gave us a bit of a morning challenge (lol!). But even that added a little character to the stay. All in all, it was a memorable and delightful place to stay, and we would happily return.

Alkanar Camp was an absolute blast and truly one of the highlights of our trip. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. They anticipated every need — bringing tea, coffee, and anything else to ensure we were comfortable and relaxed. The dinner was delicious, beautifully prepared, and enjoyed under the most stunning desert sky. The evening entertainment was lively and so much fun — such a special way to experience the atmosphere of the desert. And our hut? Absolutely adorable. Cozy, charming, and far more comfortable than we expected. Waking up there felt surreal. It was an unforgettable experience and one we’ll be talking about for a long time.

We truly enjoyed our stay at Palais Khum. The hotel itself is lovely, beautifully maintained, and very welcoming. The staff was warm, attentive, and consistently helpful throughout our visit. Our room was comfortable, well-appointed, and everything functioned perfectly — which always makes a stay feel seamless and relaxing. The only small hiccup was breakfast. It felt a bit chaotic at times and the selection was somewhat limited compared to the overall quality of the hotel. That said, it didn’t take away from an otherwise very pleasant experience. Also, one important thing. The hotel hotel is not properly placed on Google maps. We really got lost. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would happily return.

What made it even better was knowing the food was freshly prepared and thoughtfully selected. I honestly think some of the bites we had that day were the best food I ate during our whole trip. Each of us had our own workstation, and there was a television monitor so we could clearly watch the chef’s demonstrations step-by-step. Assistants were nearby to guide us and make sure everything turned out beautifully, which made the experience feel relaxed, organized, and fun. Great hotel! The location was perfect! Its literally in the middle of everything making it very easy to walk to different shops, restaurants and pick up locations. The staff were so nice and friendly and the rooms were so clean and comfortable. To be honest, having a private sauna was truly a special treat and 100% worth it, especially during those night when you re coming back late and want to unwind and warm up. The breakfast was amazing and as a must have coffee first thing in the morning person, I was so happy to see a cafe connected to the main hotel. I would 100% book this hotel again

I small bit disappointed that I wasn't able to witness the Northern Lights but I completely understand that viewing them is not 100% guaranteed. Unfortunately for me, the day of my tour the weather was very over cast and foggy. I truly appreciate the tour guide at Beyond Arctic for driving around and trying to find the lights despite the weather. While one spot did seem promising, it was close to -30 degrees outside. The photos taken may not be with the lights, they are still beautiful and memorable. I would still book with Beyond Arctic when I return in my second attempt in viewing the lights :)

The only time it was a bit of a hiccup was when the Artic Snow Hotel was to have a shuttle pick us up and it did not arrive, when I called they said they would call us back with an update. With no call back, I tried calling again and they said I would need to get a taxi. They paid for the taxi, but it was a bit strange to have such a lack of communication from them. All other excursions booked either came promptly when they said they were coming and/or confirmed the night before. There was a perfect amount of excursions for the day and still time to enjoy the amenities of the accommodations. The only thing that would have been nice to know or have a better understanding was the proximity of each stay to the city centers. Any shopping or dining was limited to what each stay had to offer. We could have called a taxi, but it gets a bit pricey to have to do that each time. Thankfully for us it was a minor setback and we managed just fine for the most part. Regardless we had a splendid time and thought Kimkim did and excellent job planning our trip.

Hello Donnie,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback. I’m really glad to hear that overall you had a wonderful trip and that most of the arrangements ran smoothly.

I’m very sorry about the issue with the Arctic SnowHotel transfer and the lack of communication there. That’s certainly not the standard we expect from our partners, and I will follow up with them directly to see what happened.

Thank you as well for your comments about the accommodation locations and distances to city centres. That’s very helpful feedback, and I’ll make sure to highlight this more clearly in future itineraries so expectations are set in advance.

I also appreciate you sharing your experience at the reindeer farm. I’m sorry it didn’t fully meet expectations in terms of guidance and engagement, and I’ll pass this on to the provider so they can improve the experience for future guests.

Regarding the Northern Lights tour, the timings are always approximate and can vary depending on weather conditions and aurora activity. That's why we also added this info to your trip plan: "The tour duration may vary based on weather conditions and aurora activity." I'm sorry if for some reason you missed this information on your itinerary.

Thank you again for travelling with us and for taking the time to share all of this. I’m really happy to hear you still had a great time overall.

All the best,

Our time in Tromso was jam-packed with dogsledding, Northern Lights cruising, reindeer feeding, and Lyngen Alps snowmobiling. The weather cooperated one day; we saw a beautiful Northern Lights display. While we would do all of these activities again, two of the vendors (Tromso Villmarkssenter-Kvaleya Husky Sledding Excursion and Best Arctic-Snowmobile Excursion) really went above and beyond to meet the mobility issues within our group.

A bit high end corporate, but executed well. The pool was the best for jet lag -- swimming at dawn with the birds is a great way to start a trip! Layout of the hotel took a couple days to understand because of the multiple buildings, but great quality and service overall.

This was the only disappointment of the trip. It was over touristed and the fish were not that interesting. There were so many people on the island that there was barely a bit of sand to sit on before we could go home. A long way to go in a jolting speedboat to end up with 10 other boats filled with people. They need to figure this out before they destroy such a beautiful spot. People and food were great, but they need to ramp back the number of boats allowed at one time.

Hi Steve and Jane,

Reading your review truly made my day 💗 Thank you both so, so much for taking the time to write something so thoughtful and detailed, and for sharing those beautifully captured photos.

It was such a joy to design this journey for you, and knowing that the Monk Chat was life-changing and that every piece - from the guides to the food to the fast track service - came together seamlessly is exactly what I hope for with every trip.

I also want to say that you are such a lovely couple. I have genuinely been inspired by your openness, curiosity, and the way you embraced each experience so fully. Planning for you was not just work - to me, it was such a pleasure and a privilege.

Thank you again for your trust. I wish you both all the very best, and I truly look forward to creating more beautiful adventures across Asia together in the future 🌎

With warmest appreciation,
Elena

This is my third trip to Japan but my second time utilizing Kimkim. Wanted to try them again to see if there are improvements if I were to go Kyushu. So I booked a trip with them to head to Kyushu, Chugoku and then Osaka.

So my journey was Fukuoka, Kagoshima, Miyazaki, Kumamoto, Hiroshima and then Osaka.
Lets start with the positives.

The journey itinerary was mostly planned well, activities had somewhat sufficient time for most locations. Shona had made a sturdy plan in theory. And had hired a good team of guides to show me around.

My favorite would be the boat ride in Takachiho Gorge followed by the Food tour in Hiroshima. That was amazing.

Now on small things to work on. This is alot better than when I used them for the first time.
Firstly, for locations that require longer travel distance by public transport, do either make sure the guide is hired for sufficient time, sometimes, 8 hours in insufficient to cover 4 locations.

For me specifically, Miyazaki, it is a location far and also public transport has an interval of 1 hour and 30 mins. There was a rush between Aoshima Shrine and Udo Shrine. And also the guide could only cover 2 out of 4 locations. I personally could not cover Haniwa Garden within the time limit before it closed.
Do try to check in during the planning stage on potential transport requirements due to this

Lastly for Kumamoto, I was not able to go to Mt Aso, but its understandable due to the weather and the recent tragic accident on the crater. But even if we had tried to go, the time is quite tight and within the day period, we could cover only 3/4 theoretically speaking.

Overall to help with feedback, my advice is to understand the distance between locations and reserve the guide and drivers for the right amount of time. This is of course best done in the planning stage given the months to do so

But overall, it was an amazing trip, Shona did try to be as helpful as possible to alleviate the trip needs which I do feel is commendable. Thank you for the improvement from my previous engagement with you.

Looking forward to utilizing them again should the need arise.
