Stephen Long was an excellent tour advisor for our two-week trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. He put together a wonderful itinerary tailored to our preferences — food, art, history, and nature — and truly paid attention to what we wanted. When I asked him to build in a relaxation day mid-trip, he planned for us to be in beautiful Hoi An, where our hotel had a pool and the beach was just a short trip away.
Stephen did an amazing job staying in contact with us via WhatsApp throughout the entire trip. All of our transportation, hotels, inter-trip flights, and activities were booked for us, and communication about where and when we needed to be was always clear. We were also able to make slight adjustments to the itinerary as needed, which we really appreciated. The local tour guides Stephen arranged in each city were excellent as well.
We had an incredible time visiting Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City, and Siem Reap. We highly recommend Stephen for planning your next trip to Vietnam and Cambodia!

Treeline Urban Resort
Siem Reap

Such a calm and relaxing vibe at this hotel in Siem Reap. The food and coffee were both excellent! I especially enjoyed the plant-based food options, and it seems like the chef specializes in them based on the variety and uniqueness of plant-based items on the menu. The pool was beautiful and relaxing, and never too crowded (although could get very hot in the direct sun outside of late afternoon hours). The service was so friendly, and we loved interacting with everyone at the hotel. The design of the hotel itself was also done by an artist, and every detail was meticulously thought through. We loved the sculptures and paintings, which made us feel like we were in a museum (in a good way).

Service is excellent. The hotel workers got to know us so well over the few days that we stayed here. Location is very central and walkable within the Old Quarter. The hotel itself is older, but the rooms were comfortable and had AC. Depending on your room, it could be loud since it is on a busy street. Breakfast had both Western and Vietnamese options.

We just got back from our vacation to Morocco and we cannot be happier with our experience. Everything we asked for
From the moment we were picked up at the airport by Mohamed, to the moment we were dropped off at the airport everything was so well taken care of and organized!
We want to make sure to mention Mohamed, our driver and the main guide during the trip, he made the whole experience so stress-free and pleasant that we cannot thank him enough. If you planning a trip, request Mohamed and you will be in great hands.
All the riads that we stayed in were great, very clean, and pleasant. Each one took care of our family like we were relatives visiting and not just some tourists stopping by for a night.
Guides - all the guides we interacted with were knowledgeable and accommodating to our family needs. We might have overdone with walking tours, as by the end of the trip kids were just done with those. The other added benefit of having guides in the medians, was that they kept too pushy salespeople away from us, letting us enjoy the tour without being forced to buy anything. You will go through some merchants that show you their craft but don’t feel pressured to buy anything directly from them as those prices are very inflated.
Sahara stay was absolutely the highlight of the trip and I highly recommend staying there for at least 2 nights so soak in the experience. We did 4x4 tour and although exhausting, it was super fun and drive around the dunes and see small villages in the Sahara, our guide Ibrahim was very attentive and friendly during our tour. Thank you, Ibrahim! Horseback riding in the afternoon in Sahara was another highlight - not as much for the kids as they were slowly led by the guides across the desert and it was hot and boring for them but for adults, we got to gallop and explore the lake, highly recommend for adults who aren’t too new to horseback riding. The camp that we stayed in, Riad Madu was like something from a movie - tents are comfortable and have all the necessities, food was in abundance, late night music and dancing.
The other riad that was an absolute highlight for our family was in Marrakech - Palais Sebban. The place is like a palace (hence the name) or a museum. We enjoyed hammam and dinner right in the hotel.

This is a super fun activity for adults who know how to ride horses because you get to explore and ride through the lake and even gallop if you are comfortable. For kids it was a bit boring because they were just slowly let by the guides through the desert to the lake. We had a wonderful trip to Japan. Hotel quality and locations were perfect. Our scheduled activities were very enjoyable although a few were a little touristy for our taste and didn't feel like authentic experiences (e.g. the tea ceremony in kimonos). Prebooked travel cards and Shinkansen journeys were great and Bella ensured our concerns regarding luggage were addressed with her seat choices on the Shinkansen.

Our guides were helpful and keen to meet our needs but we did feel that a lot of our activities did not particularly need a guide and could have been managed independently, offering us more flexibility. While we were grateful to have photos taken, at times early in the trip it seemed to be the primary focus of the guide, to the extent that we felt we were just being rushed from photo opp to photo opp without actually taking anything in. Perhaps for the instagram generation that is how they travel but it wasn't a priority for us and somewhat took away from our enjoyment.

In summary, we were very happy with Bella's choice of hotels, itinerary and travel arrangements but if we were doing this again we would only want a guide for a couple of days as it is always nice to meet and chat to someone local but we prefer the flexibility of independent travel, as with our previous KimKim itinerary in Norway.

Make sure you visit the second part of the castle with Princess Sen's history outlined. The Samurai Garden was also a lovely place to visit. The next morning came early as we had a 7:45 Bullet traln to Nagoya. There we did a self guided tour to Nagoya Castle and then to the Tokugawa museum and gardens, which I was most interested in seeing. Also seen was a Shinto Shrine.

Naumi Hotel Wellington

We really enjoyed our stay at Naumi Hotel Wellington. It is right off of Cuba street where we could walk to everything - including Te Papa, the National Museum (very good). There is a nice pickup spot for ride sharing on the other side. Breakfast was very good. If you did not like what was on the buffet, you could order fried eggs or an omelet. We stayed there three nights and had dinner at three different restaurants less than a block from the hotel. I will say that the decor was very stripey (you will understand once you get there).

The Dairy Private Hotel by Naumi Hotels
Queenstown

This hotel's location was excellent. We were able to walk into Queenstown's downtown, gardens and docks very easily. It costs extra to park here and parking is limited so make sure you talk to them before you get into town. There is no elevator for your luggage but one of the staff happily took them up to the higher floor for us. The room was clean and spacious. They provided a happy hour at 5 pm with wine and snacks which was an unexpected activity that allowed socializing with other hotel guests.

Distinction Te Anau Hotel And Villas
Te Anau

Great hotel with a great location. We walked everywhere. The breakfast was great for a hotel that serves a lot of tour groups. The room was very clean. We also were able to do our laundry right in the hotel (once we got change from the front desk). Everyone was very friendly.

Mohua Park Catlins Eco Accommodation
Tawanui, RD 2, Owaka

One of our more unique stays on our trip. This one-room cabin is very isolated but once we got there it was wonderful. We stayed here two nights. Our tour guide got us a package where breakfast and dinner were provided. The unit had a stove, an outdoor grill and a refrigerator. We had steaks waiting to grill and the first night we had a pasta salad and the second night a broccoli salad. For breakfast there were eggs to cook up and yogurt or milk with some granola. Outside, was a sheep farm for as far as you could see. Needless to say, the stars were very bright. They also had a very nice hot tub large enough for two to fit comfortably (and look at the stars). Our host was very friendly and gave us ideas as to what to do.

Galaxy Boutique Hotel Tekapo
Lake Tekapo

The skylight in the room was unique. The view outside of our window was gorgeous! We could walk to the lakeshore from the hotel but we typically drove as there was plenty of parking. The parking at the hotel was ok but kind of tight. While they gave you an option to eat breakfast in your room, we instead ate at their breakfast area (which was small but very well organized).

The Vicarage Geraldine
Geraldine

A very nice hotel even though the rooms were a little small for two people and their luggage. If you happen to be located on the 2nd floor be aware that there are no elevators. Breakfast was provided in the shop behind the vicarage which was quite good. The town is small but it has a nice walkway behind the hotel. There was plenty of room to park your car but you will not need it in town as there are lots of shops and several restaurants within easy walking distance.

Fable Christchurch
Christchurch

An excellent hotel with an excellent location. It is just a few steps from the main Christchurch Trolley (which we took advantage of). It was also very close to lots of places to eat for dinner. The breakfast was also very good. We did not have KimKim book the Trolley as we were not certain how we would feel after the long flight. We decided to book it and also added on the Garden Tour. We were glad we did! We first took the trolley all the way around to see what was offered. It was St. Patrick's Day so they told us where all of the Irish bars were. After the first loop, we continued and got off at the Irish Pub stop. Then we hopped on again to go to the Botanical Gardens. The Garden tour was wonderful and well worth the money and time. After walking around the garden some more, we hopped back on the bus to head back to our hotel. A wonderful first day.

What a place! The rooms were lovely, the hosts were wonderful and what a breakfast! They had a nice happy hour for us as well. The only drawback was that we had a 2nd floor room and there were no elevators. Also, the parking is a little tight but everything worked out just fine. The hosts really know the area very well and were quite friendly. The location is not downtown but that was actually very nice. It was only a 10 or 15 minute drive to the Little Blue Penguin Colony and Bushy Beach.

Rendezvous Heritage Hotel Auckland
Auckland

Very friendly staff and a great location. Other than that, there was nothing that made this hotel stand out. They did not serve breakfast here. Fortunately, a short walk away was an excellent choice for breakfast and lunch that we enjoyed - the Federal Square Cafe. The hotel is also a very close walk to both the Sky Tower and the Weta Workshop. We did not have a car here so I cannot tell you about parking.

Art Deco Masonic Hotel
Napier

The Art Deco Masonic Hotel was fantastic! We had the Anna Pavlova suite which had a separate living room with a door separating the bedroom from the living room. The bedroom and living room each had a bathroom. The location was perfect. They have a second-floor balcony that looks out over the ocean where you can see a beautiful sunrise. It was an easy walk to the downtown area. The only different thing about the hotel is that there is no parking there. You use the loading zone to unload your luggage and check in. Then you have to pay to park your car in a lot a couple of blocks away.

Millennium Hotel Rotorua
Rotorua

The Millennium Hotel Rotorua was okay, but not as charming as other accommodations on our trip. The breakfast staff seemed overworked and the front desk staff acted like you were bothering them. The location was great, which was a redeeming factor. Just wasn't as personal or cozy as other spots.

We had a great day at Tasmas Glacier Terminal Lake. The day was warm so we needed to carry our coats with us to get to the boats. The walk to the boats was not too bad - just a little steep on gravel at the end. There were lockers we used to place our backpacks in while we were on the boats. There were 4 boats holding 10-12 each. Once on the water, all of the boats took different routes so you felt like it was just your boat. The tour guide was great and told us lots of information about glaciers, ice flows and iceburgs.

We were very lucky in that it was a very cloudy day but once evening came, the clouds mostly went away. The crater folks allowed you to use some of their jackets if you did not bring warm enough clothes. We hopped on a bus which took us on a 5-10 minute drive to a depression where the city lights did not bother the viewing (it is a dark sky area so the lights were minimal anyway). There were three or four astronomers (or at least very knowledgable about astronomy) where one main guide showed us the stars and talked about various stars and constellations using a laser pointer. Then they had three telescopes spread out with each telescope pointing at a different object. Then after everyone had a turn, they pointed the telescopes to other objects and we all had a turn seeing those. We were lucky in that the sky was 90% clear. We did the first shift which started at 9pm. The Milky Way could have been brighter on the second tour but I do not know. We definately saw it but it was not quite as impressive as what you see in photos. However, it was a great educational exprerience and it seemed like the children on this trip enjoyed it as well. Of course, simply going to Lake Tekapo was great. Seeing the lake, the church and the power station were also highlights.

Lord of the Rings Edoras Tour

It took a while to pick up all of the passengers from a few pickup points but once we all got on the bus things got interesting. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the making of the LOTR movies and knew several individuals that were extras on set. She shared lots of stories making the 2 hour drive to Mount Sunday go by quickly. Is it a little nerdy to get excited about climbing a large hill (Mount Sunday) where nothing now exists but had an important part in the movies? Maybe. But it was fun nevertheless. It was also quite strenuous so be prepared. It was also very windy - which is very common. The views both getting to and on top of Mount Sunday were also very nice. The tour included a nice packed lunch. Some of us ate on the bus while others managed to eat in the wind. Lunch included some wine, fruit juice or a combination of the two. Our tour guide had even more stories for the ride back. We were quite tired by the time we returned to our hotel.

I recognize this is probably the best option on an island like Isla Grande, but for the price it wasn't quite up to the normal standards - our room was too small for us to fit our suitcases (and we couldn't open them) and there were ants in the bathroom. The view from the rooms is amazing, but we couldn't enjoy the balcony as much as we would have liked because the hotel allows smoking on the balconies and the person in the room next to us smoked constantly, ruining the experience for us. The hotel is also a long walk from the pier and the main part of town which was tough with our daughter especially since it rained on us the first day. Overall it was okay, and maybe the best option available, but it was our least favorite hotel that we stayed in.

The people running the class were so nice and made my daughter feel included. All the food and drinks were delicious and we loved the explanation of the ingredients and Brazilian culture/history. There were just a couple of issues. The class started extremely late because one of the other parties in the group was running late, and also because no one had informed the instructors that I was vegetarian, so one of them had to go to the store to buy more ingredients. Even if the class had started on time it still would have been late at night for my daughter, but with the delay, I had to take her back to the hotel before we even got a chance to eat the main dish. It was disappointing that the disorganization affected our enjoyment of the class. I wish we had been able to book something earlier in the day.

We loved the island, the boat ride, the nature - but wished a private tour had been available. There was a lot of waiting around for the group, and we were at the swimming/snorkeling areas at the same times as all the other groups, so it was very crowded. Also there was no kids snorkeling equipment available so my daughter was very disappointed by that. We also received a couple of mixed messages about the meeting time, and no one told us in advance that we would have to pay extra for snorkeling equipment, so communication could have been better. My wife and I signed up to go on a transatlantic cruise from Spain to the US. Since we had to fly to Spain we thought we would take advantage and spend a week in Spain prior to boarding the cruise in Barcelona. I did an internet search of travel agencies that specialized in Spain and Kimkim was one of the ones that popped up. I sent the request and a short time later I was contacted by one of their representatives by the name of Coraima. She was one of their Spain specialists. We discussed the things we would like to do, see and experience while on our trip. She took the information and said she would get back to us with some options. The next day she sent us various options and suggestions to review. After we reviewed them, we discussed with her which ones we preferred and which hotels we were interested in reviewing. Shortly thereafter she sent us a revised itinerary to review. After a couple of tweaks we finalized the trip details. She also made sure that our passports were current and other such details. This was about a month prior to the departure date, As the date became closer she and another agent named Summer would keep in contact to make sure that everything was proceeding according to plan. They were also very responsive in answering any questions that we may have thought of during the period leading up to the departure date.
In one instance the tour company we had booked a tour with had to cancel our scheduled tour at the last minute due to the venue having to close on the day we were to tour. Summer quickly notified us and shuffled our itinerary so that we could still do the tour we desired.

There is always concern when you select a travel agency “in the blind” without a recommendation from someone that you trust. In this case we could not be more pleased with the results. Both Coraima and Summer demonstrated a complete knowledge and understanding of the areas we wanted to visit. They perfectly balanced a professional attitude with a very friendly demeanor. They were always responsive in a timely manner and very patient with our numerous questions. During the trip they contacted us through the Kimkim app to make sure everything was going per plan and that we didn’t run into any problems. We can’t praise and thank them enough for their efforts which resulted in the perfect trip we hoped for when we first planned it. We would not hesitate to use them again should the opportunity arise nor hesitate to recommend them to anyone who asked our opinion of Kimkim.

Title: The Perfect Balance of Freedom and Support in Iceland

We had an incredible experience working with Gummi for our week-long self-guided driving tour in Iceland. From the very beginning, the planning process was seamless and genuinely enjoyable. Gummi took the time to listen to what we wanted and crafted a flexible itinerary that perfectly matched our travel style.

The materials he provided - detailed itinerary, driving directions, and helpful notes - gave us the confidence to explore independently while still feeling supported in an unfamiliar country. It was exactly the balance we were hoping for.

During the trip, Gummi was always available to answer questions and help us adjust plans when needed - especially when extreme weather forced a couple of changes. His responsiveness and expertise made all the difference.

Our most memorable activity (though it is hard to choose!) was the Ice Cave tour with Siggi.

This truly was a once-in-a-lifetime trip, and we are so grateful for Gummi’s guidance and care. We would absolutely work with him again and recommend him without hesitation.

She had great energy to her, was incredibly knowledgeable, gave us really cool history lessons and context to understand better everything we saw. The food tours were also great because they helped us acquaint ourselves with the cities in a casual way. We enjoyed the ramen class but we felt it took too much of our time in retrospect, so we will likely not do cooking classes again in the future unless we don’t know what else to do. The kendo class was silly fun but we thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was a fun contrast to the formality of the tea ceremony! Of course skiing in Nagano was incredible and getting to see the snow monkeys while it was snowing was magical. We can’t wait to come back and explore more of the beautiful and dynamic country!

It was a fun experience to learn how the broth and Ramen are made, but in retrospect I think what I was really hoping to make was more of an udon noodle. We appreciate it, however that the techniques we are in there are very easily reproducible at home, especially because we already have a noodle adapter for our KitchenAid.

I loved the personalized travel application for each family member since we had a number of schedules to manage. I loved the kimkim communication platform which help me organize my thoughts and respond quickly for answers I knew and later for things I had to delay. It would have been helpful to know in advance the walking times to our various tour destination points. A preprinted map with meeting points, restaurants and bars may have been useful. Our cooking class was delightful but it was scheduled at 7pm and the pasta was finished and served at 9pm. It was also not enough to be considered dinner for six people. It was a snack and would have been a nice light lunch or day activity. Our tour guides were very sweet and knowledgeable but we suffered from tour guide fatigue and had to cut our last (4th) tour short. Also, next time I will ask the planner to add restaurant recommendations to use as a starting point for planning. Hotel location on the water was perfect for our family of adults with plenty of cafes and space for gathering. We loved our sunny weekend in the fascinating city of Venice. Thank you!

Thank you Laurel for your very nice review, I am really happy to hear that you enjoyed your family trip in Venice! 😊
I am only sorry to hear that the food was not enough during the cooking class: it was a Pasta and Tiramisù cooking class, that was supposed to include also an apéritif...so this certainly would not include any second dish or extra side dishes, but the Pasta was supposed to be enough for all of you. Thank you for this feedback, it is the very first time we receive such a remark about the quantity of food, so I have immediately contacted our partner to understand what happened. Thank you for letting me know!
As far as the starting time of the cooking class is concerned, I am sorry to hear that it was finally too late for you, but as you will certainly remember...you specifically asked me to move the starting time to 7pm so that you could have the entire afternoon at your leisure and the time to get ready for the cooking class with no rush on that day. I should have maybe been clearer about the fact that you would not be able to start eating before 8.30-9pm, considering the time needed to prepare your dinner.
I am also glad to hear that you liked the Vamoos app and the personalization of the schedules for the different family members! I hoped that sending the restaurants recommendations well in advance to the final roadbook (I sent them around mid-February so you could have the time to carefully reason about restaurants) would have been enough, but yes, if you have specific needs or wishes about restaurants, it is definitely important to clearly let your planner know, so that the rest of the trip can be "built" accordingly.
The weather was so perfect over Easter weekend, I am so happy that you were so lucky during your holiday!
Thank you for the time you reserved to letting us have all your precious feedbacks, and I really hope that despite the ittle inconveniences you pointed out, your vacation was finally as good as expected!
A big hug from Italy!
Giulia
