Elena arranged a 14-day trip for my husband and me through Rome, Florence, Venice, and Milan. It was all arranged beautifully. Highlights were being in Rome during the conclave and announcement of the first American pope, shopping in Florence, a storybook setting and a gondola ride in Venice, and beautiful Lake Como and seeing the Last Supper in Milan. Especially valuable to us was the selection of boutique hotels in the best locations and transportation planning. We had a similarly awesome experience with KimKim planning our trip to Morocco. Next is Vietnam and Cambodia!

We are four older retired folks that wanted to enjoy England for 6 days before going on a wonderful cruise into Norway and the Arctic Circle. We contacted KimKim and were put in contact with Kate, the KimKim travel planner. We had some general areas we wanted to see in England and Kate took that input and built a trip plan that was fantastic. We went to Stonehenge, Bath (Roman Baths), Canterbury, the White Cliffs of Dover and several sites in/around London. We had private tour guides and drivers, arranged by Kate and we saw Windsor Castle, London Tower, Westminster Abbey, Changing of Guard (the private guide was able to have us see the practice parade for the Kings Birthday coming in Mid June). We had the best guide for the V&A museum (Mr. Robert Miller). Even though we only spent 3 and 1/2 hours in the V&A museum, we had a great time and Mr. Miller made it all worthwhile. His expertise and explanations/history gave us the perspective of the historical items we were viewing. We only saw about 10 % of the 144 areas in the museum, which means we have to return to London to enjoy the rest. We cannot thank Kate enough for her excellent trip plan and being there for mid course changes, driver time updates and points of contact. Kate was superb, we highly recommend KimKim and Kate for any England based trip.

We enjoyed our trip to Greece. Highlights included an evening photo shoot in Meteora, 2 wonderful days and nights in Imerovigli on Santorini and a food tour in old Corfu town on Corfu. Our transfers from place to place were seamlessly provided by kimkim, however we had to get to the starting point for our Corfu town food tour and that required a little extra planning on our part. Fortunately it is very easy to get a 20 minute bus ride from our hotel to Corfu town. Perhaps we could have used a car for a days exploration on Corfu but the bus worked well enough. A lack of a car meant we didn’t get to the west coast of the island - we chose to relax on the hotel beach instead! A tour of the Acropolis resulted in us going at the same time as many other tour groups and it was crowded. In hindsight we should have done that tour at the beginning of our trip (mid June) rather than at the end (late June) as July and August are peak times and the crowds were definitely building at the end of our trip. We were a little disappointed in our rooms in Meteora and at Zillers in Athens. The Meteora room while it had a partial view of the Meteora rocks was tiny and the bed was sandwiched between 3 walls on a platform such that we had to scoot onto the bed from the end. This made getting in and out of bed difficult. I don’t remember the name of the room but it should be avoided. Similarly room 102 in the Ziller hotel in Athens should be avoided. The room was advertised as an Acropolis view but the Parthenon was almost completely blocked by a tree. The room itself was so small there was really no room for 2 suitcases to be opened at once and the en-suite bathroom was in the room rather than its own separate room. That said we had a wonderful meal on their roof top with the view of the Acropolis I was expecting from our room.

The trip was fantastic. All the hotels we stayed in were very nice. I will mention that if you are driving to a castle or cave system (especially Punkva Caves where you need to take gondola or walk 1.7km) that the parking was often not next to the attraction and it took 15 to 30 minutes to get to tour start points.

Going through our itinerary:

Prague is very walkable and public transport easy to access. The city itself is very nice with lots to see and do. Driving is not difficult with phone's gps directing the way and the drivers were extremely courteous compared to my local drivers. We did a half day vegetarian culinary/history tour which was excellent. This was more history with stops to a beginning snack, lunch, then dessert. Our guide was Gary and he showed us things that we likely would never of found on our own. Well worth it.

The day trip to Bohemian-Saxon National park was about a 2 hour drive each way but well worth it for the hike and the view.

Few hour drive to Cesky Krumlov with stops along the way. Konepruske Caves were not far from Prague. If you are going to only want to do one set of caves, the Punkva caves are better experience but further from Prague. Either way be forewarned that the tours are in Czech. Karlstejn Castle (also no far from Prague) tour was very good and full of information. Free parking can be found by the Karlstejn train station which is about 25 minute walk to castle. From here about 2 hour drive to Cesky Krumlov.

Cesky Krumlov is a very nice town. Easy to walk around. We did a tour of the Baroque Theatre which is one of two left in Europe. Very interesting with explanation of the theatre and even got to see the machinery that was used to change to scenery on the stage. If you are vegetarian and visiting Cesky Krumlov you should definitely eat at Laibon as food was delicious and you sit riverside to eat. Also David (server, owner) is just an exceptional person. Fun to talk to and made several suggestion of what we should see. We did a raft tour which went over some of the history of the town and was a nice experience.

Next was drive to Olomouc with several stops. We did go off itinerary and stopped at Pernstejn Castle (David recommended). While we did not have time to do a tour, we did walk around the courtyards and through the gardens which was well worth it. Then onto the Punkva caves and into Olomouc. We did stay just outside of town so did have to drive to get to the city for site seeing. We only had an evening here so just walked around town and saw the architecture and parks.

On way back to Prague we stopped at Kutna Hora for a tour of the towns several churches and the Bone Chappel. Very interesting tour and likely something that you will not see anywhere else. If you are in Prague, it is without question worth a day trip for this tour.

Overall a great trip.

With so many people trying to exit the train before the 4 minutes were made it difficult to exit the train with my luggage. I had to stay on the train and get off at the next stop. Having a complete driving plan with the best places to stop on each drive was one of the most helpful part of using kimkim.

We had to make some adjustments due to jet lag and the kids sleeping until 11am every day, but that was easily done since the sun didn't set until midnight. We asked for 2 bedroom apartment style accommodations, which were all lovely. Using kimkim was definitely worth it and took all the stress out of trip planning.

Much smaller than the more popular Blue Lagoon, but large enough we had plenty of room for our family. Had towels and suits to rent.

Relatively easy hike onto a glacier with beautiful views of the valley. They had us put on a climbing harness, but there was no actual technical climbing. My 10 year old had no trouble with this hike and it was his favorite part of the trip.

So many puffins! My husband took 2300 pictures of puffins on this tour because his camera can shot 12 images a second. There is a very short but steep sand dune hike at the beginning that some of the others had trouble with, so know your abilities. But you get to run down the dune at the end of the tour.

We saw many dolphins and got close to a couple humpback whales. I've been on a few whale watching trips and this was closest I've been to whales. It felt like they were checking us out at times.

A quick trip up the Atlantic Ocean road to Kristiansund was “okay”. The weather was rainy and windy and we more or less missed the highlights bc of weather. We thought the road would be miles and miles of bridges but was actually quite short. The city offered a few areas to walk around and a little hike up in a park area but one night there would have been better skipped and added into Oye (see below) IMO.

Andalsnes the lodging at Rosvang Gard w Otto and Albert was incredible. Food to die for. Again scenery was awesome. We drove over to the Stave church across the fjord. The Golden Train and Gondola were wonderful to see and do! Eating at Eggen was dreamt as well!

Geiranger was a stunning site! Kayaking w Martina (from Argentina) was fantastic. The Four Sisters didn’t disappoint.

Oye was the most perfect pristine town ever. Kayaking with Jorge from Baja was very enjoyable. A lovely quiet fjord to paddle in and a few easier trails to explore the hillside was a great way to wind down the week. Would have loved to be there two nights

Last night near Alesund at Storfjord hotel. Also would have loved two nights there. Or at least a later flight to take in the breakfast there. Oh well!

Hi Suzanne!

Thank you so much for sharing your journey—it sounds like a beautiful adventure!

I'm so glad you enjoyed Ålesund as a starting point and found Runde Island and the puffins as magical as I do. I completely understand your thoughts on the Atlantic Road—weather can really change the experience. And I couldn’t agree more about Øye; it truly is a hidden gem, and I’m thrilled you found it so peaceful and special. Thank you again for taking the time to reflect—wishing you many more amazing travels ahead!

Hotel Reviews
The Connacht Hotel
Galway

Great breakfast, loved the family room setup, loved the pool, but reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is pool closed to kids at 7 or 8 pm and since it stays light so much later in Ireland in summer we had to hustle to make it back on time to use the pool. We weren't in Ireland for the pools, but my son needs to swim daily.

I first want to say that prior to the trip the experience with KimKim was wonderful. I had no issues and with the exception of one day it was a great experience. Unfortunately, the experience afterward did not match the planning. On the 5th day of our 9 day Greece trip, we took a transport boat to meet our guide. There was no guide. Kimkim admitted the mistake was on their part and offered a lunch compensation. Upon arriving home I waited a few days and no one from kimkim reached out to me. I contacted Sienna, our agent, asking her to call me and she passed me on to someone else. They offered to compensate me for the lunch $250 and reimburse me for the guide that did not show up. That was $300 of a $1000 day. The boat cost the remaining $700. Had I know there would be no guide I would not have done that excursion but I was expected to pay for the transportation to the no show guide. Kimkim offered a total of a $550 reimbursement. I told them it did not satisfy me and I was disappointed. This would be reflected it in my review. Later I get an email saying they were reimbursing my card $800. Never explaining why they increased the amount. I had 3 cards on file and they asked which one I wanted reimbursed. I told them and they reimbursed the wrong card, the one that was inactive. Many apologies were offered early on but the mistakes kept coming. Overall, no guide, no contact to rectify the mistake, no contact from our agent and the wrong card credited. Now it’s on me to talk to my bank to get the $800. Customer service was poor and unprofessional.
