I can't tell you how much my family loved this small little Irish town, as everyone in it was so friendly. We took tours to the Ring of Kerry and Dingle and Inch Bay, both areas you have to see to believe. Something that stuck out to me more than anything was our in country personal contact (Francis) who made sure all my questions were answered in a timely manner. One of our tours had a time and location change last minute, Francis had called, emailed and texted me before I even got up to make sure I knew about the changes. Everything was handled so professionally! Next time I travel anywhere outside of the USA, I will only have one e-mail to send, and that is to KimKim.

Thank you very much for your very kind review!
Your trip was a long time in planning, almost 18 months from the frst message we exchanged back in January of 2022, and it had a lot of moving parts. Mainland driving tours, flights, ferries, yacht charters on the islands, and so I'm really happy that all went well, seamlessly and without a hitch!

This was the first trip I've ever booked with KimKim, or through any travel agency for that matter, and even though of course you pay extra to have someone else plan the trip for you, I think it was worth every penny. We had a fabulous time in Portugal and everything went very smoothly. Having the PDF to refer back to for the daily schedule was invaluable - I don't know how we would have kept everything straight without it. Nuno was also always available via WhatsApp when we had any questions or needed help, and it was great knowing that we had that resource if necessary. We certainly wouldn't have thought to book as many private guided tours for ourselves, but those ended up being our favorite part! Special shoutout to the guides in Braga/Gimaraes, the Douro Museum, Coimbra, Tomar, and Evora. We might have visited the same locations, but just hearing more about them from local guides made the whole experience that much more special. In addition to the schedule booked for us, we also ended up going horseback riding (1 hour, walk only) at Centro Hípico de Alcaria, and on the last day we rented kayaks with Taruga Benagil Tours, both of which were great additions.

A few suggestions for improvements:
1) The boat tour on the Douro river wasn't our favorite - it was a short ride (only an hour), and on a large group boat with no comments by the crew. There was supposed to be an audio guide app but we never got it properly installed and working. It would have been nicer to spend more time on the water and with a more personalized boat experience.
2) The PDF document was great, but it could be made even better by including the following:
- (estimated) end time of activities, not only their start time
- reservation numbers / tickets (there were a few times when places struggled to pull up our reservation - we usually got there eventually, but this might have simplified the process)
- indication of the price range of the restaurant recommendations, and suggest restaurants in different price categories (for every lunch, give budget / medium / fancy alternatives)
3) While we had a great time in the fancy car to Cascais and Sintra, it felt like we could have driven ourselves to be a bit more thrifty with our resources. The electric Mercedes with the driver wearing a suit was so nice that we saw them outside the hotel lobby but had no idea the driver was waiting for us until we eventually asked.
4) It would have been nice to also have a guided tour in Nazare and/or Batalha, and to have a few more specific suggestions for things to check out in Lisbon. We also felt quite overwhelmed with the number of Quintas in the Douro valley and didn't really end up exploring other Quintas.
5) Having the car was overall great, but it wasn't always clear where we would have to pay for parking or how convenient it was going to be. In Lisbon, we chose to never use the car and instead got a taxi to the Fado show, which seemed much easier than trying to navigate there and then find parking. Likewise, many things in Porto are quite walkable and we didn't drive to the wine tasting there.

We definitely splurged on this trip, and the hotels all reflected that. We really enjoyed our stays at The Editory in Porto, the Quinta de la Rosa in the Douro Valley, the Cooking & Nature Hotel in Alvados, the Epic SANA Marques in Lisbon, and the Iberostar Lagos. They were all very different but all great in their own way.

We are sad that this amazing trip has now come to an end, but definitely hope to be back in Portugal soon!

We had a lovely stay here. The staff was extremely friendly and did everything in their power to make us happy. We loved both the indoor and outdoor pool, as well as the location close to the beach. Another plus is their focus on sustainability: there are water purification stations on every floor and you can refill a glass decanter to your liking with water. The reason for my lower rating: All extras are extremely overpriced. There is a jacuzzi, but you have to pay 15€ PER PERSON and sign up in advance to use it. There is supposed to be someone near the spa to help with the process, but the desk was almost always unmanned, making the process and the price rather prohibitive to the enjoyment of the spa. Further, the food was very expensive for its quality. For breakfast, lunch and dinner, there was a large buffet you could use against a flat fee. Dinner was 36€ per person! This did not include beverages. The variety was good, but if you didn’t feel hungry enough to wolf down multiple courses, it was hardly worth the money. We ended up getting groceries from a nearby store instead. We would have liked to take advantage of the snack bar and the cocktail bar but were deterred by their prices as well. The building was also complicated to navigate: reception, on the fourth floor, was the connecting hub. Even though the restaurant and some rooms were both on the third floor, you couldn’t go directly from your room to the restaurant - you first had to go up a set of stairs / take the elevator to the fourth floor and then descend again. There was plenty of parking, but there were three entrances to two separate parking garages, and two out of the three entrances were always locked.

We had a great time here. We especially enjoyed the sky pool and the downstairs spa / gym area. The only minor negative thing I can say is that it felt a bit like a cruise ship - it is a large hotel, with many guests, and while for the most part you didn’t notice it so much, on our last morning there was a large number of people at breakfast and we were somewhat overwhelmed by the crowd / noise. I suppose that is expected since they also have the space to host conferences / events themselves, but it took us slightly by surprise because we’d been staying in slightly smaller hotels on this trip. The room was super cool, with a TV hidden behind a large mirror and so many (light) switches that we had a hard time figuring out how to turn everything off at night without activating the blackout blinds. On that note, there were plenty of outlets and USB chargers throughout the room, and the staff provided bottles of water throughout our stay.

We loved our stay at this hotel. The rooms are themed after movies (we had the Avatar room with an oval bed!), they are located in a slightly remote area ensuring quiet and beautiful views, and the breakfast was delicious. It is such a unique concept and I loved the nature-y vibe of the place.

This was such a relaxing, luxurious experience. We had a room that overlooked the Douro river and the pool was always nicely warm from the sun. The restaurant had delicious food, and their coffee in the morning was my favorite from all the hotels on this trip. The only complaint that we had was that it was difficult to sleep due to all the flies in our bedroom, and there weren't many outlets or surfaces for electronics (the bedside tables were quite small and had large bedside lamps on them).

The Editory Boulevard Aliados Hotel
Porto

This is a lovely hotel and we had a wonderful stay. The building looks brand new and is beautifully designed. The room was on the smaller size but perfect for what we needed, and it was very comfortable and functional. The restaurant was excellent (we had dinner there one night and breakfast throughout our stay, both meals were crafted with attention to detail) and the bar upstairs was quirky and fun (they serve cocktails in mad hatter cups). The pool was small and you had to go through the bar to access it, but we still enjoyed using it. The only thing that bothered us during our stay is that I requested an iron multiple times and it was never delivered. In some hotels this is standard room equipment, and in others I haven’t had any issues getting in delivered on demand so I was quite surprised that it was such a problem for them to handle this quite reasonable request.

I'm not sure how much this trip cost, but it felt like we could have saved some money driving ourselves to Cascais and Sintra, especially since the driver didn't come to the monuments with us. Sintra boasts a gorgeous castle, but it is also very overrun with tourists. We were not prepared for the crowds. We're also pretty sure we missed part of the castle - was there supposed to be an interior? We hadn't done a cooking class before so we didn't know what to expect. We were surprised by how much prep they had already done - we didn't have to do any chopping, just basic assembly, which was a bit anticlimactic. Of course we never would have finished in time otherwise, since we made three courses. We really liked our starter salad, but the main dish for me was too much to eat. Dessert was probably my favorite part, we had a lava cake with raspberry sorbet. Our cooking instructor was very friendly and we enjoyed spending the time with her. I think I was expecting more of a group class, and more "pro tips" that you can generalize, instead of just putting together someone else's recipe, but we still had fun!

It's the difference between an art class and a "painting by numbers" exercise that makes me award less than 5 stars.

When we first arrived at the dock, they gave us a hard time about not having a ticket. The guide even took us past their back rooms where they are restoring art, showed us a special exhibit (unrelated to wine), and we got some free port at the end of it! I am thrilled to hear that you had a great Mindo forest tour. Marco is an excellent guide, and I am happy that he provided punctual and flexible service to ensure you had a memorable experience.

It's wonderful that you were able to enjoy the diverse birdlife, exhilarating zip-lining, and stunning scenery of the Mindo area. I hope these incredible memories will stay with you for a long time, and remember we still have a lot of planning to do for your next adventure in Ecuador, so feel free to reach out again here in kimkim.

Safe travels!

We had a fantastic trip around Australia. Liz listened to our needs, scheduled fun and memorable activities for us, worked around other events we had scheduled, and did it quickly and efficiently. Liz, as well as the rest of the KimKim team, is an excellent, relaxed communicator who kept us updated with any changes. It was a pleasure working with KimKim yet again. We have used KimKim twice now and both of the trips rank at the top of all the trips we have ever taken (and we travel A LOT). Great Job!

Thanks again for selecting us to work with and I hope our paths cross again in the near future.

On our trip, Sarah and Ivan were SO on point for our whole trip. They responded quickly to any questions and helped us manage all the excursions, made sure we knew all the contacts, and really made it so we could sit back and enjoy our vacation.
This is our first experience using an agency, and I do believe we will use them again in the future.
Croatia is a beautiful and amazing place, and Sarah and Ivan made it so that we really got to see and enjoy all the parts, not just the touristy parts!

We loved learning the history of the villages as well as the plants. My kids have both listed this as one of their favorite activities from the trip. The countryside is beautiful but to learn more about the nature and people was wonderful!

Fabio was our tour guide to Pompeii, and he did a fantastic job. He helped us to understand the history and culture surrounding this fascinating city.
From there we took the train to Rome, where again we had a driver waiting to take us to our hotel which was only a couple of blocks from the Colosseum. Our tour of the Colisseum and Roman Forum with Chiara was excellent. It is so helpful to have someone experienced and knowledgeable to explain the history and sites. Likewise the next day at the Vatican with Donata. All of our tour guides and drivers were fantastic.
From Rome we took a train to Florence and from there we branched off on our own, renting a car and exploring northern Italy. While the rest of our trip was still fantastic, we missed the ease and convenience of having Kimkim and Ina take care of everything for us. They did a wonderful job!

Donata did a fantastic job with our tour through the Vatican. She was fun and engaging while sharing with us the cultural and artistic history of the museum. We were able to go through a restricted portion of the museum, and it was wonderful to see some of the sculptures and mosaics without the crowds. Donata did a great job preparing us with things to look for and notice within the Sistine Chapel. Otherwise it can be an overwhelming experience!

On the last day of a 2 week trip to Spain , I joined a group tour to Montserrat. The tour was operated by We Barcelona. While I can’t point to any one thing about this tour that was bad, it was different than expected. For example, I was under the impression it would be a small group tour but it included 36 people. I’ve taken group tours before but they have all been for small groups and we traveled by minivan style bus versus a large bus. Additionally, although the meeting point was super convenient to where I was staying, once all 36 people checked in, we walked 5 -6 blocks to the bus. The meeting time was 10:30 am but by the time we got to the bus it was 11 and our arrival to Montserrat was about 12:20-12:30. Two young professional women were with us and provided us factual info about Barcelona and Montserrat via microphone during the bus ride. Upon arriving at Montserrat, we split into 2 groups of 18 and our short tour began. The tour lasted about 20-25 minutes and then we were on our own for 75 min. Other travelers who visited Montserrat in years past mentioned how much they liked hiking around there so I originally thought I would do that but it was 1 pm when we had our free time and it was very hot. Our 2 groups of 18 reconvened at 2:10 and we waited to take the funicular down the mountain. Montserrat is spectacularly beautiful so this ride was very scenic. At the bottom of the hill, we met the bus and then we’re driven about 30 minutes to a farmhouse for lunch. I believe the tour advertises having and outdoor lunch on the far, but we ate inside which made sense given the heat. It was a lovely lunch which included a few tapas, a green salad, bread, grilled meats, wine and sorbet. Coffee and tea were offered at the end but were not included in the prepaid tour price. We left the farmhouse around 4:30 and we’re back to Barcelona an hour later. I’m glad I went to Montserrat but would probably do it differently if I had to do it again.

Montserrat is a scenic wonder and a beautiful place, however this was a large group tour so my review of it is significantly impacted by that fact. I’ve never taken a bus tour so my expectations might be skewed by my tendency to take small group tours or explore on my own. Originally this tour appealed to me because I heard many great things about the hiking. Additionally the fact that I started at 10:30 (versus 8) was originally a bonus but in retrospect the start time and large group size meant we didn’t get free time at Monstserrat until 1 pm and I found it too hot to hike. As someone with no large group tour experience I found a lot of time wasted with just the logistics and transport. For example, our meeting time was 10:30 and everyone was on time but each party had to sign in on 1 tablet and fill out a bunch of information so that took about 15-20 minutes. Then we had to walk 5 or 6 blocks to the bus. So we didn’t actually get moving until at least 11. We arrived at Montserrat at about 12:20 but all the bus parking spots were full so we waited another 5-10 minutes before getting off the bus. There were 2 guides with us so we broke into smaller groups and out tour began. The tour did not include getting close to the Black Madonna but instead included about 2-3 stops outside the monastery where information was given and one stop before the Basilica where info was given. This part of the tour lasted about 15 minutes then we were in our own for 75 minutes. At 2:10 we gathered to take the funicular down the mountain. Then we met our bus and drove about 30 minutes to the farmhouse for lunch. We had lunch inside the farmhouse between 3:15-4:30. We were served a few tapas, bread, a green salad, grilled meats, wine and sorbet. Coffee and tea were offered but not included and had to be paid for separately. The meal was good and I enjoyed the company of the other travelers. We got back to Barcelona at 5:30.

Hotel Antiche Figure
Venice

The staff here was so nice, and the room was adorable. When I checked in, the woman at the desk gave me a map and provided detailed directions on how to reach certain landmarks (which was great, as Google Maps and Venice don't always get along). She then escorted me to my room and helped me with my bag. The room itself was large, comfortable, and quiet, and breakfast was good. The location was convenient -- right across from the train station -- but be warned that there's a large bridge with no ramp you'll need to cross to get there. There's a spot for a private water taxi pickup to the airport right next door, which was also super convenient and easy to find.

This hotel is located in a great location, very close to the train station and to Ponte Vecchio. My first night, they informed me that the air conditioning in my room was broken, so they had moved me into this annex they own next door. It was on the 3rd floor, no elevator, dark stairwells, but the AC worked and a porter brought up my bag, so it felt like part of the adventure. The next day, I asked about the status of my room, and I'm glad I did -- it was ready and they said I could move in there if I wanted to -- but I had the sense that had I not proactively mentioned it, they would not have and I would have ended up in the annex room the whole time. The new room was more comfortable and with a bigger, softer bed than the annex room. There was no window, just a skylight, but it lit the room well. The bathtub was large and they provided complimentary toothbrushes. Breakfast was good, though the dining room was not air conditioned.

The woman at the front desk when I checked in escorted me to my room, recommended a spot for dinner, and insisted I take an umbrella with me on a day when rain looked likely. The breakfast set-up is a bit odd -- they give you a voucher to bring to the cafe across the street -- but it's a good breakfast with lots of options. There's a small elevator, or you can go in and out through a side gate on the steps.

I started working with Kimkim and Tamer 8 months in advance of our trip - as we were trying to decide if visiting the Galapagos Islands was what we wanted to do for our family vacation. It was not until the spring that we started to get serious and make commitments on dates, days and what we wanted to do. Tamer was very patient with me as we went back and forth quite a bit. We are a family of five, include three 'kids' (20, 17 and 12). We opted for land based which we loved. We did two nights in Quito and had an all day tour one day. That was fabulous. If you have the oppt to do that go for it. We had our tour guide from 9a to 6p - Danny was great. He knew soooo much about Quito and the history of the city and country. Favorite part of the tour for the kids: middle of the earth and the cooking class (fabulous).

We then spent three nights in Santa Cruz and three nights in San Cristobal. We really enjoyed Santa Cruz because it was bigger and offered more things in town, and after a day out on excursions it was nice to come back, relax a bit at the hotel and then walk the town to visit stores, see the people and eat at a local restaurant. We learned that when you are land based, the money one spends goes back directly to the people of the town and their local economy. Also, from the moment we landed n Santa Cruz everything was perfect: our guide (naturalist) Astrid met us, we went to a Tortoise farm and had a wonderful lunch, walked around before going to our hotel. It was a great introduction to the Galapagos Islands. Astrid was an A+ guide. My kids really enjoyed her. We also enjoyed our naturalist on our excursion to Bartolome Island (Candy). She was definitely interested in making sure everyone on the boat was safe - and took time to speak with everyone. Our boat (a yacht with a motor) served a three course lunch (and wonderful sit down breakfast - you can't beat that!). Our other guide on Santa Cruz was Viviana. Also great and someone who knew so much. Our trip to Tortuga Bay was fantastic.

Our trip to San Cristobal did not start on the right foot - literally. The speedboat between the two islands is not faint for the heart. We knew that and everyone took anti-nausea medication but two people in the family still got sick. So when we landed we were definitely a bit "off" and it didn't help that our guide had sent in a backup guide - but that was not clearly communicated (and the backup guide did not know English as well) and immediately she wanted us to drop off our bags at the hotel and get wetsuits for our next boat excursion - the idea of getting boat after that ride was certainly NOT something my family wanted. Thankfully we we were able to check into our hotel, get our bearings for a few hours before going on the next excursion (and that boat ride was like being in canoe on still water compared to the speed boat!). By this time we also had our booked guide; unfortunately because of the confusion at the start (we didn't even know we had the backup guide until one time they both showed up to switch up!) we never clicked with this guide as well as the others. However that did not mean we still did not enjoy our visit, our tours, etc. Just interesting that when you click it does make a difference. My kids can probably name the three guides in Santa Cruz but not the one on San Cristobal for example.

Overall it was a great trip, despite the rough seas. We loved learning about Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. We loved the people we met. Also, we were told that this would not be a culinary trip of sorts but we had some great meals! The islands have some good restaurants and the food on our excursions were always great. So much fresh food: fruit and fish certainly!

Galapagos Sunset
Puerto Baquerizo Moreno

Nice hotel. You cannot beat the location: right there in the middle of it all! Our balcony faced the water and every time someone walked by they would check out the hotel. Small, boutique like. The rooms were a bit stark: nothing on the walls and we noticed there were no chairs. The beds were also full size (vs. King at the two other hotels). Clean. We had an issue with the hot water and water pressure was not the greatest. Oh, and no lobby - if you are into that sort of thing. We went to Hotel Indigo up the street one afternoon for drinks as they have a really nice lobby/bar area.

Puerto Ayora

This hotel was GREAT. It may be located 'right downtown' and on a side street, but once you enter the outdoor area it's like a resort. The rooms very spacious, clean. They had a nice pool area and very close to the downtown shops and restaurants. Also close to the dock where you catch the speedboat to San Cristobal. Make sure you have breakfast on their rooftop. Not only is it nice but the breakfast is GREAT. I wish we could have eaten there more than just once but we had early departures on two mornings - and they do provide breakfast to-go so ask for that if you have an early excursion (except if you are getting on the speedboat!!).

Authenticity & Character
A bit authentic ~ maybe? More like a mini resort feel.
Location
It is located off the main street, a side street across some urgent care.

Really glad we stayed here. The location was perfect for our tour of Quito the next day: the guide met us and we started walking! The hotel is traditional so that was nice and different. The inside reminded my family of the house in Encanto. The staff was also very nice and helpful. They met us when we arrived at 1 am, helped us with our bags and explained things. The food at the hotel was also good. We had breakfast two day. We also ate dinner there after our tour of Quito - we were too tired to leave. Everyone liked what they ordered.

Our last activity on the last full day. It was nice not to have a packed day and to take it easy. We took a shuttle to the interpretation center and then walked back via trails. It was great to hear more about the wildlife, the land and the impact of El Nino and climate change - it is an issue for the people and the islands. For example, even though it is winter, the weather has been warmer than usual - yes, good for us tourists because we can swim in the water but bad for the wildlife this continues. Plus our guide pointed out that trees that should be bare have leaves and are blooming because it is warmer than usual.

We almost skipped out on this. The family was hesitant to get back on a 2+ hour boat ride after the speedboat, however, everyone said it would be more like the excursion we had on our first day and that Espanola is just beautiful. So we did it - and we are glad! When we landed we did a two hour hike and then snorkeled. Our guide John was great - knew a lot about birds. And we did see birds including the blue footed boobie

This was a fabulous experience. I am so glad we opted to do this. I think if we had not, I would be very disappointed. We saw as much as one can in a nine-hour day. Everyone in the family loved it. It was a good mix of going into buildings and churches and just walking. We did drive to the middle of the world - the 'museum' there was great. Highlight for the kids. I think we enjoyed having our own guide and going at our (and his) pace. The cooking class also turned out to be a highlight of the entire trip. My 17yo and 12yo were skeptical of a cooking class but it was so much fun - and the food was so good! I would not miss this. I think next time we do a trip I may have to look for a cooking class.

Dear Hale,
Thank you so much for your detailed and much-appreciated review, it is of great value for us here in kimkim and our travelers. I am grateful for the opportunity of working with you for months on this trip and happy to see that you and the family have enjoyed the overall experience. Rest assured that your notes about our services, guides, tours, and hotels, will be taken into consideration (the positive and the not-so-positive) and that they will be conveyed accordingly to help us improve performances and quality. I realize that the speedboat between Santa Cruz and San Cristobal wasn't an easy experience for the family, it was necessary to complete the great itinerary we had, and its details and alternative was discussed during the planning process. Same for the emergency situation we had with our guide on San Cristobal which I personally communicated with you, having a backup guide helped us fulfill our services yet your comments are highly appreciated and I promise you we will work on that point. Again, I can't thank you enough for your feedback and I hope we can offer you and the family, and your referrals :) more adventures on kimkim soon.
Best,
Tamer
