Patagonia: Where the Wild Whispers and the Sky Roars

"Muy fuerte" doesn't even begin to describe the raw, untamed power of Patagonia. This land of colossal skies and jagged peaks seared itself into my soul, a visceral experience that transcended any travel brochure. Our journey was a symphony of contrasts: cozy refugios echoing with trekkers' tales, luxurious hotels offering respite from the elements, and glamping under a star-drenched canvas.

We traversed this breathtaking landscape by every means imaginable – soaring above it by plane, bumping along rugged roads in private transfers, skimming turquoise waters in zodiacs, swaying atop sure-footed horses, and, most intimately, conquering its trails on foot. Each mode of transport unveiled a new facet of Patagonia's grandeur.

The iconic "W" trek tested our limits, rewarding us with panoramas that defied description. We shared laughter and stories with fellow adventurers, forging bonds strengthened by shared awe. The culinary delights, paired with robust Chilean wines, fueled our bodies and spirits.

Walking on ancient glaciers felt like stepping into a frozen time capsule. We witnessed the "Patagonian Ice Dragon" – a aquatic insect that completes its entire life cycle within glaciers – and held our breath as an avalanche, a distant white thunder, reshaped the mountainside.

Yet, beyond the grand spectacles, it was the subtle, profound moments that truly captivated me. The vast, untainted skies stretching to infinity, the Milky Way ablaze with celestial fire, the quiet satisfaction of conquering challenging trails, and the sheer, sculptural magnificence of Torres del Paine’s granite towers – these were the memories etched deepest.

We didn't encounter a Mylodon, that elusive prehistoric giant, but the pull of Patagonia is undeniable. We'll surely be back!

A word of advice: Don't wait. Experience this wonder while your legs are strong and your spirit is ready to embrace the wild.

A 5 star scale is not sufficient to rate my experience planning a trip to Norway with Mathia! I sought an off-the-beaten path, stunning, relaxing, reinvigorating adventure with my teenage son. After being told by Norwegians and American friends who had traveled to the quieter Northern regions that our desire to explore up there in a relatively short trip was ambitious and that the weather would be risky, But Mathia inspired me to trust his love for the region and orchestrated an itinerary that captured exactly what we were seeking...and more! Of course it's impossible to see everything that this otherworldly country has to offer, but I know we used every day well, without having to skim through a landscape that must not be rushed. When I made a mistake in booking a flight, Mathia heroically and selflessly adjusted the plan at the 11.9th hour and we didn't miss a beat. I have ZERO regrets about how we spent our time. We felt well taken care of by innkeepers and adventure guides known to Mathia. We tasted the local flavors. We fell into the rhythms of the midnight sun. I will forever be grateful for Mathia for making this dream trip possible and would trust him again in a heartbeat!

Leny knew exactly what I had in mind. The hotels choices were excellent & a few footsteps away from restaurants and services.
Traveling by trains & navigating huge stations with lots & lots of crowds can be pretty intimidating but the detailed maps Leny provided made it very easy to do this.
The guide in Tokyo was excellent giving me detailed historical information about the shrines & shintos we visited & came prepared with charts to explain the differences between shrines & shintos.
Marco the photographer was amazing choosing all the perfect locations for an excellent photo shoot.
My guide to Nara did a lot of research & came prepared with sheets & charts. I found this very sweet. Shows the real Japanese ethics & dedication to work.

We had the best experience planning our trip with Moonika. She was helpful and even when we had to push out the trip by 6 weeks because of passport delays it was seamless. During our trip the guides and activities booked were perfect. We enjoyed our northern light tour, dog sledding with bear hill, reindeer sleigh ride with beyond arctic and ice fishing/orienteering with Nordic odyssey. Our accommodations were super nice, at great locations to city center for restaurants and shopping. I am thankful for the lifetime of memories that were made. Ocean free is the best! The crew was exceptional- the sail was exceptional! Sail out 1.5 hours to the Great Barrier Reef for snorkeling (safe & fun) ! Tour Green Island- beautiful! Sail, snorkel & island exploration are at your own pace - excellent! Crew encouraged everyone to do what they felt most comfortable with. We are 69 years old and did everything with ease! This is a trip not to be missed! Definitely a highlight!
Note: snorkeling water was a little murky & the current was strong but worth every minute !

We had an amazing trip to Morocco thanks to Hamza and his crew. I would 10/10 recommend booking with them. They were so attentive and knew so much about what to do. Thank you for making our trip amazing!

Our Driver Mohd Jbaari was very good. He was accommodating and was well informed about our activities. He was willing to listen to our requests if we had any and managed all our travels very efficiently. Some of the guides were lazy and kept repeating the same information again and again. Our guide in Rabat was not very good. As it was Eid the day we were in Rabat he finished the tour very quickly and said he was not to blame for the short tour, He could have taken us to some other spots like public gardens instead of just shrugging his responsibility. Our guide in Marrakesh was very arrogant. And one thing we all noticed was none of the guides were happy to take us to the shops we wanted to go to but wanted to take us to shops they suggested.

I could not have been happier with our tour that Yuqqa Macdalena planned for my friends and I! We toured through Java and Bali for 11 days and saw so many magical places including waterfalls, sunrises, mountains, craters, sunsets, temples. We traveled by train and traveled by car. Yuqqa’s guidance was so valuable we felt secure in every situation. Our driver, Agung Ardika, made sure that we arrived at every activity in time and he gave us information about the area we were in and he stopped at areas of interest to us. We had many lovely guides and were pleased with each of them.

We enjoyed our trip to Japan very much and Eleanor provided excellent service. Eleanor provided good feedback and was flexible in making arrangements. Japan is beuatiful and it may be the most orderly and polite society we have ever encountered. We caugyt the cherry blossoms in several cities and the food was extraordinary.

The Waitomo Glow Worm Caves were a bit underwhelming for me. I might be biased because I've experienced a similar cave in Italy that was much better. While the cave itself was unique, I probably wouldn't highly recommend it to others.

Eleanor did a fantastic job helping us (2 people with some physical constraints for touring) for a trip to Tokyo and Kyoto. She steered us away from trying to do too much (a common problem when visiting Japan). She arranged three days with guides, all good, for Tokyo, Kyoto and day trip to Nara, along with suggestions for things to do and where to see cherry blossoms for our self directed days. Guides were flexible and sensitive to our needs for rest, and even found the colorful toilet from the movie "Perfect Days" when we requested that detour.
3 hotels were good, with nice varied breakfasts. Drivers were all punctual and safe.
We had used KimKim before to plan a trip to Colombia, and would use them again (but unfortunately not Eleanor) for trips to other countries.

The final accommodation near the Imperial Palace was a much better fit for us. The location was ideal for a short walk to the gardens, which we enjoyed on our last day. While the area lacked shops, it provided a peaceful and pleasant environment, better suited to our preferences.

The Sumo Morning Practice Viewing was fascinating! It was intriguing to learn about sumo in an authentic setting. Watching the sumo wrestlers train was intense but very insightful. Even those of us not interested in sumo found it to be a unique experience that we couldn't see at home.

This was my second trip to Seoul and second time working with Jessica…and both of exceeded my expectations. The only part I would advise to pass is on the DMZ experience which was underwhelming. Head to the Gamaksan suspension bridge and unification park, grad Korean BBQ in Pagu, then head back to Seoul.

Rachel was the person who organized our trip.
She was very prompt in replying to our questions and was able to make some good suggestions. She was able to pivot quickly when some of our other plans changed.
We were amazed at the thoroughness of the planning from picking us up at the hotel and getting us to a boat or a van or the airport in good time. The other people involved were helpful and respectful. It made the trip very pleasant and made us feel like some care had been taken in the planning. We were surprised at how personal trip the trip was. Three hotels in Rio and Manaus were excellent and the lodge in the Amazon jungle was perfect.

As we rounded the corner in the motorized canoe, we saw buildings up on stilts, thatched roofs and a screened amenity room. The dock was there to received boats. It was perfect! Just what we hoped for in a remote jungle experience.

The sunset motorized canoe rises were a highlight. Learning about the changes in this river over the year was fascinating. We also really enjoyed swimming - right by the dock - with the pink dolphin. It was refreshing after the heat of the day.

I reached out to KimKim on very short notice (4 weeks!), and Shirley put together the MOST memorable trip for me and my adult son. She was very responsive and went above and beyond to ensure we experienced "off the beaten path" Taiwan while considering our specific requests (even making sure the beds would fit my very tall son!). Our driver/English-speaking guide, Reggie, was perfect. He tailored each day to our energy level, the weather, and food! Whether it be the Earthquake museum, hidden trails among the tea plantations, or (many) hidden restaurants we never would have found. I can not recommend Shirley and Reggie enough! Rita was incredibly patient - we were a group of 8 with a lot of opinions and mixed itineraries. Every guide we were paired with was incredible, welcoming and provided us with a wonderful experience. For a 20 day trip having kimkim do all the coordination across 7 cities and 2 countries was a breeze- have recommended them multiple times others and would happily use again!

Overall, we had a wonderful trip in Morocco. Morocco is an amazing country with amazing people. Our experience with KimKim was fairly seamless and the trip planning was simple and customizable to our wants and needs. Similarly, our local guide Hicham was knowledgable, kind, punctual, and cared deeply about his country. We traveled around nearly the entire country in 10 days and even with a fair amount of time spent in the car, it was an adventure we will never forget.

A few issues to be aware of that negatively affected our experience. Our hotel in Fes was outside of the medina and felt a little disconnected from the city. It's our understanding this was due to the first choice hotel being overbooked, but if we could go back, we would choose to stay in the medina.

Our last day and night also did not go as expected based on the itinerary. Our guide had a personal emergency that left us on our own in Essaouria for about 5-6 hours. This was not necessarily Hicham's fault, but a little more communication regarding the timeline and plan of action would have been appreciated. We ultimately made the best of it, but a lot of that was due to our own initiative.

Our hotel on the last night in Cassablanca was different from the hotel listed on our itinerary and seemed to be a drastic step down in quality and location. We ended up in an airport hotel when our itinerary was booked for a city center hotel. Convenient for our flight the next day, but totally disconnected to Casablanca, a city we only got a few hours in due to the issue that occurred during the day in Essaouira.

Something to keep in mind that would have been helpful to know beforehand- ATMs only give out large bills (100s and 200s). You are going to need small denominations for tipping and using the bathroom. Many businesses also asked for smaller bills, but we did not have them, and the businesses did not have small denominations for change. Some hotels had small bills on hand to exchange, but many did not.

Seafood Lunch from the Wharf

Essaouira

While seeing the fish market was a good experience, we would not recommend eating there. The setting is picnic tables inside the market. There was construction going on and the overall cleanliness was extremely poor. We did not enjoy this meal, as we were concerned about the hygiene and cleanliness of the surroundings. Throughout our trip, this is the only time we had this concern.

Quality of Experience

Costa Rica for Family of 5! We had an amazing time on our trip. The first part of our trip was in La Fortuna. We had adventures every day with amazing guides such as Diego. Our kids saw sloths, enjoyed the hot springs and swam under a waterfall. The hotel was lovely and perfect for our family. The hot springs was a fun family evening activity.
The 2nd part of our trip was in Manuel Antonio. The hotel was amazing with incredible views and amazing staff. We had an once-in-a -lifetime experience with our guide, Sosio through the National Park. All of the tours were incredible and top notch.
Our transportation to and from airport, between hotels with Alex was always on-time and pleasant

Our stay at Hotel Los Lagos Spa & Resort was delightful, though the only downside was the trolley service which was not always available and often took some time to get from place to place. Otherwise, the hotel was a lovely place to relax.
