Kyoto Umekoji Kadensho - Private Bath Facility

We loved the comfort feel. Hotel is lined with tatami floors throughout and it was so much fun to stroll laisurely in pajamas and socks (or barefoot) to the onsens in the morning, get a hot matcha in the lobby and sit for a breakfast all without having to change to regular clothes! Staff is very respectful and friendly. There is a free popsicle station in the afternoon and free noodles snack before bed. Location is fair. It is relatively close to the train station, but if you want to spend most of your time around the Gion district, it is not close. The stay was very relaxing though and I would opt for this hotel again since it is easy and only around 1,000- 2 ,000 Yen by taxi to get anywhere you need. We made a couple of out of Kyoto day trips during our stay and the location was very convenient for this as well.

One of the best aspects of our trip, was our guide Fred and driver Steven. We wish we could have worked directly Fred planning the trip from the beginning because of his knowledge of Uganda, specifically, in regards to obtaining permits to see primate groups and thier distance from the lodges, which is important because the roads in Uganda can be tricky. They went above and beyond to get us to our events safely and efficiently navigated us between activities. They knew the best spots for viewing animals, and their expertise made every moment feel special. Fred and Steven truly made the trip memorable. We are so thankful for the time we spent with them. All of the guides and porters on the trip were fantastic and certainly enhanced our experience.

Our recent trip to Rwanda and Uganda was an incredible adventure, but if I had to pick a highlight, it was definitely Uganda. I found it to be far less touristy, which made for a more authentic and intimate experience. The locals in Uganda were incredibly warm and welcoming, always eager to share a smile. It felt like a much more personal connection compared to the more tourist-heavy spots I encountered in Rwanda.

The wildlife in Uganda was absolutely amazing. From the mountain gorillas in Mgahinga National Park to the chimpanzees in Kibale National Park and the golden Monkeys in Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda), the primate experiences were jaw-dropping. Not to mention the variety of birds and other wildlife—each day was a new adventure. The game drives at Queen Elizabeth were also fantastic, with plenty of opportunities to see Uganda’s rich wildlife in their natural habitat.

The accommodation was top-tier as well. The lodges were not only beautiful but also had that perfect blend of comfort and eco-consciousness. It really felt like you were in the heart of the wilderness, but with all the luxury and service you could ask for.

The Rwenzori Mountain Hut-to-Hut trek in Uganda is nothing short of an adventure of a lifetime. For anyone looking to push their limits, experience raw, unspoiled nature, and truly immerse themselves in one of Africa’s most stunning and remote mountain ranges, Margarita Peak is the 3rd highest peak in Africa. We only planned to spend two nights in the huts and loved it, for folks in great shape, we would highly recommend trekking to the top. We have summited Kilimanjaro and found that Kilimanjaro was an easier trek.

Mweya Safari Lodge is a true standout in the heart of Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park, offering an unforgettable safari experience with the perfect mix of luxury, comfort, and incredible wildlife encounters. Located on a stunning peninsula overlooking the Mweya Peninsula and Kazinga Channel, this lodge offers not just breathtaking views, but also an intimate connection with nature.

One of the best things about our trips was the ease and convenience of our travel arrangements. Everything was done for our convenience and we didn’t have to worry about airport transfers, tickets to events, airline flights within the country, hotel accommodations, etc. This was one of the first trips where I didn’t have to plan out everything and that definitely made a huge difference in my level of enjoyment. The trip was really amazing. We found some added adventures that I think you need to add to your list, but all in all - very satisfied. Avondale Forrest Experience and a drive through Black Valley near Killarney were the highlights of the things that we added.
The fishing trip was not what I expected. Guy was nice, but we fished basically in town and never had a bite in 6 hours that we casted over and over again. Had hoped to at least see some scenery.
Still could not have planned a better trip!

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your trip.

I'm really glad to hear the experience was amazing overall—and it sounds like you uncovered a couple of real gems! I'll definitely add the Avondale Forest Experience and the drive through Black Valley near Killarney to the list. Those are fantastic additions. That area has such hidden beauty, and Black Valley especially is one of those special places that many people miss unless they know to look for it.

I'm sorry to hear the fishing trip didn’t meet your expectations. I’ll be sure to pass your feedback along to the tour company—we really value honest insights like this, as they help us ensure future experiences are as rewarding as possible.

Thanks again for the great feedback—it truly helps. And if you have any photos or more details you’d like to share from the new spots, I’d love to see them!

This was absolutely an amazing trip and would recommend Ivan and Sarah to plan your next one!

This was my first experience with KimKim and without any hesitation I can recemmend them to anyone looking to plan vacation and looking to do more than go to one hotel and lie on the beach for a week. We decided to to go to Indonesia and wanted a trip that included nature and wildlife, local cultre as well beach and pool time.
We worked with Caroline who was teriffic. Caroline made an initial proposal which was already great and we then suggested some changes like adding an initial visit to Sumatra to see Oranguntans and we upgraded one of the hotels as well as shifting our proposed dates. None of this phased Caroline and she quickly adapted our trip plan!
Our trip was wonderful. We staretd with jungle hikes to see Orangutans in Sumatra (and yes we saw many as well as other wildlife). Then Ubud in Bali where we walked the rice fields, kayaked across a crater lake, visited a monkey park and spent a day with a local family with whom we cooked, Learned about cultivating rice (and even ploughed a rice paddy) and much more (Water Palace, other temples, Art and crafts village etc.). In Sanur we spend a day on a Catamaran and then chilled out at a beach club before heading off to Labuan Bajo where we boarded a private boat that took us to Komodo Island to see the islands famous inhabitants (we saw almost a dozen dragons, lots of wild boar and even more deer, as well as orchids and other wildlife). On the way there the spectacle of fruit bats leaving the mangrove at dusk was incredible, the snorkeling was like swimming in an aquarium and seeing the manata rays glide along the ocean floor was the icing on the cake. After 2 days on the boat we were very happy to end our trip at the Ayana hotel in Lauban Bajo where we could relax for a day before heading home.
A trip of a lifetime that the whole family enjoyed. Logistics in Indonesia was also arranged by Caroline. We had amazing guides and drivers at each location who made sure we were always on time and offered us lots of insight into what we were seeing. The drivers were also flexible, accomodating last minute schedule changes made by us at a moments notice. Thanks for making this a great trip!

Just a wonderful hotel! Would definately come back here and can recommend to all. Our room was outstanding, large with a balcony which had two-directional views out to the ocean and over the forest. The bathrooms were also huge having both a shower and a large bath. The hotel facilities are amazing. the pools, the pier bar and other restaurants were all excellent. The hotel also offers local activities like snorkling and paddleboarding which were fun.

We spent 8 amazing nights in Switzerland - 4 in Lucerne, 3 in Lugano and 1 in Zurich (flew in and out here). Our KimKim guide was very helpful and patient and designed a great trip for us. If we had any constructive feedback, it would be that we didn't feel like we received enough detail regarding our excursions (what to wear, how are we traveling and exactly what are we doing) and they weren't always what we expected (depended on the local guide we got that day)...and we wish we (our fault) had opted for more free/downtime as our days were crammed with activities, leaving little time to just explore on our own.

KimKim put us at the Seehotel Hermitage in Lucerne right on the lake/10 minutes from town - location and rooms were great/beautiful, great breakfast, beach club is a bit overpriced - we'd stay there again though. We got tickets to Lucerne Transportation Museum, but ran out of time to enjoy it - only spending an hour at the Swiss chocolate 'ride' which was ok. Our first tour day was to Mount Rigi - it was a good day overall, spent getting up the mountain, having a lovely but long lunch at the Michelin-starred Edelweiss restaurant on the mountain, and then heading to the spa and enjoying an impromptu stop at a small church with two Swiss women playing the accordion...the area of opportunity here was that our guide wasn't the most professional, organized or seemingly knowledgeable. She lost her phone on the bus (can happen to anyone) that set in motion us missing our train and being off schedule most of the day - it happens. Day two was better - a different and more professional guide/tour to Engelberg/cheese and Mt. Titlis (incredible natural beauty) although the guide was on his phone a lot. We expected more of a behind the scenes cheese experience but in KimKim's defense, it says 'cheese tasting' and that's what it was - we went to a shop in Engelberg that may belong to the monastery and we ate some delicious cheese there. Boat ride from Lucerne to Fluelen and Gotthard train to Lugano are must do's - magical - loved the attendant on Gotthard train - beautiful views and very friendly.

In Lugano we stayed a Luganodante - centrally located and decent hotel- rooms just smelled a bit of smoke which hotel ascribed to us leaving window open. Our first tour day in Lugano was lovely with a local guide Romina who was very professional and knowledgeable. Day two was even better with a local guide Patricia (aka Patti) who took us to Bellinzona which was an amazing day - she was the best guide we had all week.

We stayed at the Marriott on the river in Zurich - it was fine.

Best meal by far during the week was Galleria Arte - Michelin-starred - in Lugano right by the lake. Simply incredible - only 10 tables.

All in all, this was the first time we ever used a travel agent to plan a trip and it was a pretty great experience overall - Switzerland is one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen and visiting in August was wonderful.
