My friends and I just returned from a 9 day adventure in Cartagena, Columbia. Everything was arranged by Michael at KimKim. When we arrived at the airport, we had a driver waiting for us.
Our guide in Cartagena, Lee was fantastic and was funny and informative. We did the Toluma volcano mud bath and it was awesome! We traveled North to Santa Marta, Riohacha & Cabo de la Vela. We hiked in Tayrona National Park. It was so beautiful, but VERY HOT AND HUMID!! the hike in was 2 1/2 hours and pretty easy. But after swimming and having wet/sandy feet, I developed blisters and so we opted to ride the horses back out. This was an amazing choice, the horses were very well behaved. We drove further north and visited a Wayuu village and were welcomed into their rancheria in Manaure. We then ventured to Cabo de la Vela in a very remote area. The rustic accommodations were charming and clean. The food was delicious. Our guide Estephanie, was so nice and took really good care of us. Our driver (Jr,) was also very nice and knew the local language and we felt very safe. Our last day back in Cartagena, we met up with Lee again for a local market tour and a visit to the Fort Castle San Felipe de Barajas.
Everyone says Colombia 🇨🇴 is not safe, however I felt very safe here, the people were friendly, the food was delicious and the old walled city is AMAZING with its colonial architecture. It has a Caribbean vibe, the streets are colorful and the music has a great beat.

There is one thing to be aware of though. Twice on our drive to Santa Marta and Riohacha, we were stopped by unannounced road protests. Groups of people will block the roads in protest of something the government is doing. It just depends on how long it takes the police to arrive and open the roads. The first time, we were stopped for approximately 45 minutes. Our driver had been stuck there before for over 4 hours! Then on the way to Riohacha, they blocked a bridge and were only letting 40 cars cross each hour. We were about 100 cars back so we thought we’d be stuck for a long time. But after about an hour, the police cleared the protesters. So just be aware that those types of things can happen at any time. We did not have any issues returning to Cartagena thankfully!

A VERY Rustic place. It’s in the middle of nowhere. Right on the beach in Cabo de la Vela. The dinner was delicious, but the breakfast was very small and just ok. There is no electricity during the day or hot water. They finally turned on the generator after it was pitch dark for about an hour. Great for stargazing as there is no light pollution.

Hike Tayrona National Park

The hike is about 2 hours to the beach. It’s a moderate hike but the heat and humidity make it more difficult. Stay hydrated and take your time. The beaches are beautiful and we swam for a good amount of time. The food was delicious. We opted to ride the horses back out as I developed blisters from my wet water shoes. The horses were very well behaved and they handled the steep terrain very well.

Our guide was great! He showed us frogs and lizards and crabs. He was knowledgeable about the indigenous peoples that live in the national park. He secured horses for us when my feet were hurting from my blisters.

Duncan made us feel well taken care of and the itinerary was fantastic. I was a little concerned about accommodations but we stayed in nothing but lovely places and the food all over Iceland was delicious. A beautiful country and the self drive option is the way to go!

The online assistance and planning we received from Hassan was very prompt and helpful. We had a timeframe of 8 days and Hassan designed a travel itinerary that met every requirement and offered a fantastic schedule.
He arranged for a driver to meet us on arrival in Tangiers and accompany us throughout our tour through Chefuan then on to Fes. Then up to the high Atlas mountains to Bin El Ouidane then Marrakech and Casablanca.
We stayed in a variety of hotels and Riads all of which were a high standard very clean and comfortable. The workmanship in the interiors of the riads is extraordinary. Our favorite hotel was the El Minzah Hotel in Tangier.
Our driver Mohammed met us at the airport. From arrival he was welcoming, helpful and efficient. Nothing was a problem to him. We spent the next 7 days in his hands as he guided us through busy cities, long highways, crazy traffic around the crowded market areas and historical sites. Each step of the way he explained the history and relevance of various sites and cities. We had many questions and he provided very thorough explanations for all or queries.
He drove us up high winding mountain roads and explained the various changes in sights and scenery. He is an excellent driver. We always felt safe and he maintained time schedules we discussed before we set off each day. We would thoroughly recommend Mohamad as your driver / tour guide.
In Fes, Hakim was our tour guide for the medina & markets. Hakim was an excellent very friendly & fun guide. He had an excellent knowledge and assisted us greatly.
In Marrakesh we had another Mohammed as our guide. He was again extremely knowledgeable, helpful,friendly & fun.
We would highly recommend both Hakim and Mohammed for anyone travelling to Fes and Marrakesh.

Thank you for your arrangements Hassan. We had the best possible trip and we strongly recommend KIM KIM for a Morroco adventure.

Our trip to Greece was amazing! Our first stop was Athens where we went on the mythology tour. Our guide, Fotini was lovely and the tour was very interesting. We were happy we did a half day because it was a very hot day. We also did the boat trip to Hydra. Hydra was beautiful and we had a wonderful time but would have enjoyed spending more time walking around as the time was very structured. We are a family of 8 which could have been to our detriment because everything takes longer when you have that many people.
Our next stop was Santorini which was absolutely incredible! We stayed at Canaves Oia Epitome and it surpassed our expectations. We were set to have a boat trip on our last day but it was cancelled the day before due to weather and Angela was on top of it. She managed to get us a boat trip a few hours after we found out it was cancelled. The captain and his mate cooked an amazing dinner for our sunset cruise and even had a birthday cake for my husband! It was our favorite thing we did and we so appreciated Angela taking care of us! Angela also worked with my daughter to surprise my husband and me with a vow renewal for our anniversary. She went above and beyond!

overall camilla did a great job responding to our multiple requests. one negative comment. it would have been extremely helpful if camilla would have told us that a mask was required by latam before boarding to bolivia. i did not have one preventing me from boarding at that time causing my wife to open her suit case and frantically search for an extra. fortunately, she found one. then upon boarding, most were not wearing masks including aircraft personnel. getting into bolivia is a nightmare, a virtual bureaucratic morass. will not fly latam again if at all possible due to cancellations, poor substitute flights, baggage hassles and charges. altitude added to the difficulty of the trip since we were at altitudes ranging from 13,400' to around 9 to 10,000 including the atacama. food good in general. early morning flights, schedules, and departures were demanding and tiring.

la paz: a very chaotic city but not as much as india or some locations in s.e. asia. gustu: fabulous. mi chola, good, l'manq'a good. david, excellent guide, greg, good driver: cable car lines, valley of the moon, witches mkt. tiwanaku and lake titicaca- great experience. europa hotel was okay, not memorable. eating area was quite austere and uninviting. the breakfast buffet was okay.

sucre: dinner at nativa-b minus: service slow, silverware presentation, stemware, food presentation, quality, ambience and decor-ok, music track-ok. but drink pairing was inventive and good. far cry from the package at gustu.
guide: martha--very mediocre. her English was halting. when i asked her to translate the spanish on some of the museum descriptors, she could not do it. she tried to be helpful but as a guide she left a lot to be desired.
the tarabuco market was a waste of time except for the azur museum where we found a textile. not much happening for a market especially compared with those in Myanmar, india, s.e. asia. the dinasaur foot print sight was interesting. su merced hotel was a charming, iconic spanish property; room okay; food okay; helpful staff.

cayara: interesting diversion to this hacienda dating back to 1547. willy, our driver and guide, was outstanding-very knowledgeable and personable. rodrigo did a great job of explaining the hacienda's history through willy's translation. meals were quite good. overall, a good experience.

potosi: willy was great again as was johnny, the driver the mint was very interesting. willy did a great job of explaining the history.

salar de uyuni: probably the highlight of the trip. a very fascinating geographical formation on this planet. great overall experience with picnic, sunset, conquesa mummies. our guide, osvaldo, was pretty good but tended to speak rapidly so that we would have to ask him to repeat or just loose the thought. also he tended to rush a bit. did enjoy the laguna colorada, flamingoes, vicuna, llamas, laguna verde. palacio del sal was a unique hotel experience. the architecture was very impressive: use of salt blocks. however, i felt that most of the budget was spent on the exeterior and interior "wow" factor to the exclusion of convenient interior room details like a chair, a minimal desk; very cramped space; no window to the outside. meals were good. osvaldo said we did not have time to see the "stone tree". we did see the train cemetery as well as some interesting formations: "water fall canyon", "easter island-moai"-have to use some imagination since we had seen the real thing at rapa nui, lago canal, and a curious animal called a "viscotcha"-looks like a rabbit with a long tail that jumps like a kangaroo.

mallku cueva: okay for one night.

atacama: la casa de don tomas hotel--pretty good; due to early mornings, we really never had their breakfast, only boxes which were not that great. on our own we signed up for the celestial experience on the 14th which was to be in english. unfortunately it was in spanish. david ibanez was kind enough to give us the choice of going on the 14th in spanish with no charge or go the next day in english with a charge. due to tour times, we chose the 14th and it was okay. some english was used and we did use the 3 telescopes. great hot chocolate. everything worked out fine.

salar de atacama not nearly as impressive as salar de uyuni. but the lagoons of miscanti and miniques were spectacular. in the socaire area, rojas rock/lake had a vicious wind of about 40-50 mph; not enjoyable; only did half of the loop. unfortunately left my mountaineering wind jacket at the hotel. would have been great to have some weather advice before leaving the hotel. did see a very small group of flamingoes but nothing like the red lagoon. also did see some vicunas at the edge of the miniques lagoon.

we cancelled the tatio geysers at 3:30am due to the forecasted 15 deg temp and bad roads. after hearing others' experience, we made the right choice. these geysers pale in comparison to yellowstone. bottom line: not worth the extremely early morning, cold, rough road, long drive to see the steam.

valley of moon -very impressive formations; amazing salt formations.
valley of death partially closed. picnic at sunset with pisco sours was a nice touch.

all in all, the group tours were okay. left my jacket on the bus. fortunately the person at don tomas made contact at illari expedciones at 7pm. she got the jacket and was to be open until 7:30pm. i was given a map and raced over to find her closed. went to another shop; he knew her, called her. she sent over my jacket in a few minutes. all's well that ends well.

overall a good, exciting, somewhat fascinating but hard trip due to 11 flights, too many early mornings, altitude , rough, long drives, and the bureaucratic idiosyncrasies of bolivia.

Irene and the team from travel 12 were amazing. Irene planned the most amazing family trip. Her knowledge of Greece in planning our trip is what made our trip so memorable. Her recommendations were top notch. We wouldn’t have been able to plan the trip we took on our own. I highly recommend kimkim to plan any vacation you are thinking about. 5stars, A+++++!!!

Again, this experience was much better than out expectations. I have been on other boat cruises in beautiful places. Compared to this cruise those were terrible this cruise was a small super friendly group of travelers. The staff was so nice and very attentive to all of our needs. The water was beautiful clear blue. We had a great time swimming and floating on the water. The kids had a great time jumping off of tall rocks. The meal and wine was gourmet quality and crazily prepared on the boat. WOW! Highly recommend!!!

Thanos was extremely helpful in sourcing and booking our accommodations and transportation whilst in Italy. The pre trip planning went smoothly and Thanos worked within our budget and desired locations to put together a really exciting itinerary. Despite a few hiccups with local vendors (out of KimKim's control), we thoroughly enjoyed our 10 days in Italy and would recommend using KimKim in the future. One of the BIG highlights of using KimKim was the availability of Thanos to ask last minute questions and and make any necessary changes. Having a 'virtual concierge' while travelling was new for us but enormously helpful. Thanks again.

Our trip went perfect from start to finish. All the tours and guides were super helpful and provided a ton of information that allowed us to learn about the culture, the country and their food. The hotels were exactly what we were looking for, all of them boutique style, very unique and provided excellent service. Ik (sorry if it wrong), the guide to Chang Mai and Mae Hong Son was extremely knowledgeable about the culture, temples and customs. The guide to Kanchanaburi (Marrie) was also excellent. 20/20 I would have changed a couple of things that Ashley recommended, by doing a bit less to have some down time. But... we traveled around and saw a lot of different places, people and food styles. Highly recommend KimKim for any traveler looking for a unique and tailored experience.

We had such an amazing time, thanks to kimkim! They handled the logistics beautifully, so we could truly enjoy our time in Greece. All of the hotels, transportation, and tours they recommended were great. We will definitely be using kimkim again for future travel!

I would highly recommend KimKim for future travelers to Spain. Luis planned an amazing trip for our family of 4. It was the perfect mix of planned tours and down time for exploring on our own. Our favorite parts of the trip were our private and small group tours with our amazing tour guides - Almudena, Yohanna, Jose, Ana, Manuel and Luis who guided us through the cities of Madrid, Seville, Granada and Barcelona. We saw the beautiful Alahambra, Real Alcazar, and the Le Sagrada Familia Basilica and enjoyed a fantastic night of tapas and flamenco dancing. Our sunset cruise in Barcelona was so much fun and our family day at the beach was a perfect ending to our trip. Luis was so easy to work with and planned the perfect trip for us. He also was helpful answering questions for us during our trip while he was on vacation. He really provided excellent guidance. We can't wait to plan our next trip!

A superb, 4 city vacation in Italy with a very customized itinerary with every travel detail and ticket clearly laid out with no work on our part. Every taxi/boat driver was available on time in every transfer point (8+) as soon as we got off the train/plane. Unique cooking experiences, private tours of the Vatican, and so much more. In a country where we didn't know the language and there were various unknowns, our travel reps (Jessica and Barbara) were available every step of the way giving us daily reminders. I 100% would use this service again as our experiences were one of a kind!

Private Evening Gondola Ride Venice & City Stroll

Our guide was fantastic (Ontavia I believe) who knew so much of the city. Personable, friendly, and knowledgeable. We learned so much about Venice along with the private walk that made it comfortable. Then the gondola ride was one of the best things we ever did while she dropped us off. Highly recommend.

Market Tour & Cooking lesson (morning tour)

Fantastic!! Michaela took us to get the best, fresh food from the market. Outgoing, fun, and friendly telling us every step and asking every detail of what we like, what to try, etc. This felt like one of the most local experiences we ever had with a lot of fun. We learned to cook pasta with her, my wife and I while enjoying the best appetizers and meal. This was so personal, unique, and local that you can't miss out. Plus prosecco, wine, and a fantastic air conditioned apartment with a rustic feel that you can't replicate!

Wonderful trip to London and Scotland. Stephen and I worked together to plan 3 days in London and 8 days in Scotland. He was very helpful in planning out a route for us that would cover highlights in Scotland, with a mix of city time and outdoor activities. He set up hikes and tours with several really great guides who helped us see places we would never have found on our own.

There were a couple of communication glitches and overall I felt that the itinerary format was not the easiest to work with. It left a couple of uncertainties although they were resolved and we ended up with all of the tickets and other information we needed.

Great trip that we could not have planned ourselves so we are grateful for all of Stephen's hard work!

The Stirling Highland Hotel

Nightmare-- the room smelled strongly of cat urine or mold. The hotel said they were unable to move us due to being sold out; in addition, our room opened onto the car park where a car show was going on, meaning that we couldn't open the window to air out the room. I did write to the hotel when we got home and they said they would refund us, but haven't seen it yet.

The Royal Hotel Portree

Portree

Comfortable room that looked out toward the harbor. Restaurants in town book up very quickly so we ate at the hotel one night and it was delicious. Much better than expected, especially for a hotel restaurant. There's a parking lot but you have to find out the details from the front desk; it's not obvious at all when you arrive. Excellent full breakfast included too.

Atholl Villa Guest House

Lovely room that looked up at Ben Vrackie. Very clean and comfortable and friendly owners. Loved the location; we could walk to dinner on the main street but not noisy at all.

The Frederick House Hotel

Edinburgh

Beautiful spacious room and great location in New Town. Easy to walk to Old Town. The included breakfast at the restaurant across the street was fantastic- best of the trip. Very accommodating staff who helped us send our laundry out.

Hotel The Melita

London

We were in London during a heatwave and we knew there would not be air conditioning. The staff kindly provided us with a second fan, which was much appreciated. The room was quite small but we knew to expect that in such an expensive city. Very clean room and tasty breakfast pastries.

Cairngorms National Park Wildlife Tour with a Specialist

Scotland

Wonderful tour with Safari Steve. He drove us in a very comfortable Land Rover to several habitats within the park. At each one, we saw birds and other animals that we never would have spotted on our own. Even though we are not "birders," it was delightful for all of us (including 2 teenage boys). One of our most enjoyable days.

Dunnottar Castle Tickets

An unexpected highlight! Beautiful and relatively uncrowded castle on the edge of the ocean. Well worth the drive.

Old Town History and Tales Walking Tour

Fascinating walking tour. I didn't catch the guide's name but she was great. Very knowledgable and informative with just the right level of history and other facts.

Tower of London Timed Entry Tickets

Even though we had timed tickets for 10 am, we still had to wait about 30 minutes in line to enter. The line looked like it was getting even longer behind us so I would recommend tickets as early in the day as possible--very glad that Stephen got us morning tickets.

Private Guided Walk in Glencoe

Great hike back into the Hidden Valley. The hike in was a bit of a steep scramble in parts (more than I expected) but the route back was less difficult. Lots of beautiful scenery along the way.

Hop-on, Hop-off Bus

London

We thought that this would be a good way to get an overview of London but our bus was stuck in traffic more than it was able to take us from site to site. Would skip it next time.

Traveling with two adults and three teenagers it is always tricky to find the right accommodations. Silvia not only found hotels for us in three different cities, they were charming places with a lot of character and located in very nice and convenient parts of town. When one hotel didn't have exactly the set-up we had asked for, requiring us to book an extra room on the fly, Silvia got us a refund so that we did not end up paying more. She was also a big help with transportation between sites, and had great recommendations for activities. She even met us at our hotel in Copenhagen with a gift bag of Swedish treats. We had a great time!

I can’t thank Emi enough for planning a spectacular vacation. Our hotels were great. Our private tours and events were spectacular! Cooking class! Boat tour! When I had a question while in Italy, I received a response to my text within minutes, I have told multiple friends that they have to use KimKim to help plan their vacation. I can’t wait to plan our next trip with them.

We actually had a private boat tour with Theodoro. He was wonderful! We couldn’t have asked for a better guide around the coast. He was so knowledgeable. This was one of our favorite days of our vacation.

Claudia was a wonderful driver for our day. We did not have a wine tour scheduled while we were in Tuscany, Claudia called immediately and got us scheduled for lunch and wine tasting. It was a fantastic day!

Private Gondola Ride

This is something that we felt we needed to do in Venice. While it was nice, it felt like a Disney ride—they take you through a preset course with all the gondolas in a row. If you want to take a gondola ride, make sure to schedule in advance. The line to buy tickets was really long.

Pizza and gelato making class

Vierri was amazing! He made this more than a class—it was an experience. He is so knowledgeable and a wonderful teacher. I can’t say enough about this evening. This was one of our favorite events of the trip.. Our pizza and gelato was surprisingly fantastic considering our skill level.

Before starting the planning of this trip I knew the destinations we wanted to cover. I was able to provide kimkim the general itinerary and booked them to help with the logistics and transportation. Parts of the booking went very smoothly and parts were somewhat bumpy. In more than one case I was told that they couldn’t do what I was asking (although I was able to do it on my own). I was very happy with, and very much enjoyed, the excursions that I booked through kimkim. Most of the drivers we had throughout our trip were excellent. I would particularly like to praise Leo, our driver from Amanzillo Travel. He was extremely knowledgeable, professional, & personable. Our biggest fiasco during our trip was when a driver (I can’t recall his name or company) left us at the ferry, “went to park,” and didn’t return. (I’m still not certain that we were refunded all we were due as a result of this.) Yuliana and kimkim were definitely helpful in planning this trip but I think that next time I will try doing it on my own.

Connie did a great job helping us see the best of NZ and both islands in just 8 days! We loved the trip and the tours. All of the guides were fabulous and Do with Alpine, Chris with Eco Tours and Liz with Aucky Walky were the best! Also loved QT Auckland — nice rooms, great location, hip bar and good restaurant.
